Upgrade the hammer too?

No, just a smoother version.

Basically, they take a standard FCG, polish up the surfaces and in the case of the ACT, add a NiB coating to it.

It's not a match trigger by any means, but it's a slick little sucker. I can't really tell the difference in the QMS and ACT with trigger pull, but the ACT just looks nicer with the coating. Easier to clean too lol

Advanced Combat Trigger (ACT)

Quality Mil-Spec Trigger (QMS)

ALG Defense ACT.

Way smoother than a standard trigger, but won't break the bank. It says no lower than 5.5 pounds, but it's nice with a clean break.
Was just reading up on that trigger after your post. It looks like they ship with a 6 pound spring and a 4.5 pound spring. Something new?

Edit: just got this from the link you posted "The pull weight is not lower than the M4/M16 minimum weight specification of 5.5lbs.

NOTE: Included with the ACT is the Purple reduced power hammer spring as well as a full power hammer spring."

Midway's description says the purple spring is 4.5.

Yeah, just saw that while I was posting the link. It must be something new or newer, though it did say it might have light strikes on hard primers.

Interesting option though.

She loved it. Wasn't quite as excited when I asked if she wanted to help me clean the gun last night though.

Lol! Keep it fun to start and she’ll get more inquisitive. My younger daughter had little interest in rifles until I put an AR in her hands on some steel plates. Now she has a DOPE book out to 800 yards and wants to know everything about “her” rifle.

I priced an AR500 4x8x1/2" sheet for $650. I can make a lot of targets out of a 4x8 sheet. Me and some friends/family may go in and make some.

Do you have access to a plasma or oxy torch? That’s some tough steel. Make sure you post some pics of your final product.

ETA....Laser is the best way to cut it but I just assume most people don’t have a laser cutter in the garage.

I own a plasma cutter that we recently cut 1-1/4" cold rolled steel. If I do it, I'll make some plywood templates as guides for the different shapes and sizes.

If you have a plasma cutter, you don’t have the typical home workshop. Have fun and please post your work.

I got your guff on the .300.

What's your opinion on the the 6.5 v 6.8?

I think all three (.300, 6.5 and 6.8) have their "ideal" environments.

If you want to shoot suppressed and have something work out of an SBR, .300 is your way to go. Also, works as a good brush gun.

If you want an all around 3-400 yard hunting round that works great out of a 16 inch barrel? 6.8 SPC is the way to go.

If you want .308 range (and reasonably close ballistics) in an AR sized platform, but don't mind a little longer barrel, the 6.5 Grendel is the way to go.

One thing I DON'T like about the article is the fact he dismisses the SPC II chambering. That's pretty much become the industry standard where the 6.8 SPC is concerned, so you really can't have a valid comparison if you ignore the obvious improvements made to the chambering.

Long story short, apples to oranges comparisons. The 6.8 was designed for shorter barrels while the 6.5 was designed with a longer barrel in mind.

Thanks, that’s what I was looking for. I have the choice between the 6.5 and 6.8, already have a .300 upper as you know and mocked.
