The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

Just picked up a LCP 2.

Fun little peashooter. Anyone else have one?

We're good, but that store has a yuuuuuge selection of stuff, including stuff you can't find anywhere else. So I thought if you were in the mood for a coffee cup, t-shirt, coozie, key fob...whatever, I'd scoop it up while we were there. Trust me, I drop some serious cash in there every year.

Anything but the checkerboard overalls. Those are the most god-awful abominations I have ever laid eyes on.

Management and her sister are on their way to PA. Step-father in hospital; not doing good. This on top of her father, who lives in the house behind us, and has lung cancer. Sometimes life is tough.

So I'm guarding two houses, seven cats, a German Sheperd, her dad, and her sister's 11 year-old son for the next week or so. And mowing two yards. And cooking. And cleaning. And trying to figure out how to keep a hyperactive 11 year-old entertained. And trim the sheperd's nails. And run a Marine class at work.

Anybody got a coupon code for Yeungling?

So if y'all would, put the family in your prayers this weekend. I'll keep you updated, and maybe even find time Sunday afternoon to take the youngster for some ballistic therapy. He loves that AR.

Toodles...

put the 11 yr old in charge of the dogs and cats...cleaning litter boxes for 7 cats will keep him busy

good luck

You notice he ignored me trying to spend more of his money lol.

For the price though, that Mossberg 702 is a dandy little shooter.

Appreciate all the concern, knuckleheads...

However...GV, you might want to sit down before you read further...I broke down and bought another Colt 6721 for $849. NIB. Good price. Could not let it go by.

Just love the accuracy of that HBAR. Makes me better than I really am. And everything on this rifle will seamlessly transfer to that one, if the need arise.

GV, forget it. This one goes in sealed storage in the closet. Only to be opened in case of national emergency. Backup gun. Period.

For those of you who meddle in the stock market, buy all the Yeungling Brothers stock you can lay your hands on. Trust me, we're 3 days into the "Mr. Mom Experiment", and they have a truck scheduled for my driveway tomorrow evening...lol.

Later. I think the dog just ate a cat.

Why would I be upset? Colts are fine rifles.

One of these days, I'm going to come east and introduce you to some cold hammer forged goodness and mid length happiness. You'll ask "Colt who?" at that point.

So...check went out today. FFL info sent. Now we wait. It's a Gunbroker.com purchase, and a highly-rated seller, but this is my first internet purchase, so we'll see.

Haven't heard from Armscor about my Rock. We're at 5 weeks on a 4-6 week job, so I'll give it another week before I get antsy.

Between me and GV, I'm afraid to total up what I have spent on guns/ammo/accessories over the past 6 months. Big number.

Fortunately, management has been very understanding.

I bought my Browning Citori O/U via gunbroker. No regrets. Awesome service. And beautiful and reliable bird/sporting clays gun. Would do it again.

You’ll be fine👍

M-Lok bipods...

Where is the best place to pick one up?

Oh and GV and those who may know...

My new budget build AR has a Wylde 223 SS barrel. My understanding is it’s chambered for 223 but can handle the pressures from the 5.56.
It also has a 1:7 twist, so I assume it will need the heavier rounds to stay stable and accurate??

GV can answer better than me but because I asked a similar question, yes the Wylde can handle both. The heavier rounds do perform better in the 1:7 twist.

On the bipod, I'd check out Primary Arms, Rainier Arms or Palmetto State.

Yes, a .223 Wylde will support everything from .223 pressures up through 5.56 pressures. No problems there.

And a 1/7 twist will be perfectly fine with everything from 55 grains through 77 grains.

There is a Springfield demo day at Nashville Armory next weekend. Being a fan of the mini14, I've toyed with the idea of buying an M1A for years but didn't because I'm not sure I would ever use it. I hate to be panicky but I'm a little worried that I may not be able to buy one of these rifles in the near future and a decent sale price coupled with some free extra mags may push me off the fence. Anyone actually own one of these?

I had an M1A Loaded at one point and loved it. DTH will likely be along with better\more experienced advice, but that platform is outstanding.

Even the communist state of California allows the M1A. I wouldn’t be too worried about it being banned. If you want it, buy it. Springfield has a great warranty program.

So...here's the latest update from The Georgia Old Folks Gun & Beer Club:

- Ordered the Real Avid ProPack Cleaning kit for my AR('s). I've got a decent "this & that" kit, plus the standard Mil-Spec green thing I keep in the case, but this kit seemed to have every bell & whistle needed to keep my AR('s) shiny and happy, so I bought it on Amazon. Added in some Hoppe's lube and gas tube (pipe) cleaners.

GV?

- Wife and sister are back from PA, but stepfather not doing well at all. Worse, in fact, so we are expecting that they will be heading back eventually, if not soon. Keep them in your prayers. Due to work, animals, their Dad, and the nephew, I will stay behind and hold the fort down for as long as need be. Now's a good time to buy more stock in Yeungling, after your prayers, of course.

- Expect the 6721 to ship next week, as well as (hopefully) my Rock. I'll take GV's advice on the "backup" AR; shoot it in; clean it; bag it; and put it in layup. For now.

- I'm officially on the 62 grain bandwagon for my AR('s). Read enough info on the internet over the past couple of weeks to put me on the ATF Watch List, and I've decided that 62 grains is the best load for my barrel / twist / needs. So I'll load up on the XM855's in the Fresh Fire 30 cans for general shooting and long-term storage, and the Federal XM556SBCT (FBI round, 62 grain JSP) for duty / defense. So now I've got around 1600 or so rounds of 55gr FMJBT to decide what to do with. Keep? Shoot?

GV?

- Spent this afternoon organizing my walk-in closet, which is where I keep my AR, ammo, gear, etc. Wow. I've been busy of late, apparently. Got it all neatly organized now, though. Mags, parts, ammo, S.O. gear, more ammo, armor (duty and tac), parts, and some more ammo. If upper management sticks her head in there, I've got some 'splaining to do. Somehow, in addition to all of the 5.56 ammo, I've also piled up around 1000 rounds of .45 ACP. Somehow, that number sounds small...

- Dropped in to the "That's Racist" thread and spread some love today. Great fun, that. As for Starbucks..I'd drink recycled Pilot Truck Stop coffee out of a honey dippers boot before I'd spend a dollar on the best Starbucks can offer. But that's just me.

- Marine class going well. I've got 19 go-getters, and this class has developed a personality that keeps me on my toes, which is both hard and fun. We're underway tomorrow night. This is when we take them out; let it get dark; then tell them to get home on their electronics only. At 25-30 knots. Tough, but very critical skill. Here's hoping that tomorrow night does not result in a "Significant Emotional Event" for any of the 7 staff or 19 students.

- Love VN, and love this thread. Always enjoy reading the posts of those of you who have already forgotten more about guns than I will ever know. Some of you have given me invaluable advice. And some of you have almost put me in bankruptcy...

GV?

- So, there 'tis. See you in a day or two. Y'all keep 'em straight out there.

I'd grab a .22 cal Boresnake. Probably a .45 as well. You will not go wrong as it's as simple as simple can get.

As for "gas tube cleaners" I've never cleaned mine that I recall. Drop a few drops of lube down it every so often. It more or less self cleans. But...Pipe cleaners work perfectly fine for those hard to reach spaces. Standard Q-tips are amazing as well. Both are nice to have so you didn't waste any money on them.

I keep trying to tell you just because it's the same grain, it won't have the same trajectory. Even different 62 grain rounds will have a different POI and MOA accuracy due to design, powder loadings, etc. The M855 is perfectly fine, but you can save a ton of money with buying .223 caliber stuff as well as 55 grain for training.

Or we're just going to get you into reloading...

Until then, next time you're at the range, give a few five shot groups of your 62 grain duty load, the M855 and whatever 55 grain you have on hand at say 50 yards. 20 rounds of each, slow fire, bag the rifle if possible. Don't adjust your scope, just use whatever zero you've established. See the difference.

cleaning 7 litter boxes sounds like a gateway to serious cheesing habit

So, night ops scrubbed due to wind and sea state (25kts+, seas 4 to 6...not good in a 31' open boat). Makeup date tomorrow night, so...

Yeah, I have bore snakes for my AR and .45's. And both standard and oversized Q-tips. Nice to know I did something right on my own...lol.

I get what you're saying about "grain weight", and maybe I just went a tad overboard there. I have two cases (1200) of the XM855 in the Fresh Fire 30 cans, and one case (600) of the XM193 (which, for some reason, I can't find anywhere anymore). Those have a yet-to-be-determined shelf life, so they aren't going anywhere.

Plus another couple of boxes of 193...500 rounds of the Hornady 62gr TAP (barrier blind, and it doesn't have the polymer tip, but looks just like the Federal 62gr JSP round)...plus a few hundred-odd rounds of TAP 55, 193, 855, and other stuff left over from boxes I never shot completely up.

So...I'll shoot the "leftovers" first, and then I'm going to do exactly what you suggested. I'm dialed in at 50 yds for the Federal XM556SBCT (62gr JSP). So I'll shoot 10 round groups of the 855 and 193, and compare them. No zero adjustment.

If you're right....and you probably are...I won't see a big difference. Message received. 62gr JSP for duty / defense, and whatever is cheap for practice. At my working ranges, the POI is negligible; just maintain my 50yd zero for duty loads, right?

And I'll let you know. Good advice. Taken.

Oh...backup AR shipped today. Here Thursday.
