No doubt there are questions at all positions but the biggest difference in this roster and other years where we have been undermanned is in every single position there are highly recruited talented players that if they step up we are fine. That hasn't been the case before.

The roster doesn't worry me at all. The transition to a new scheme and a lockeroom that lacks confidence worries me much more

i think the concern is a sum of all of it. not only are you undermanned at spots, you also have all the transition stuff to deal with too.

it's a big ask to see all that come together in a single off season.

go to a bowl this year. finish the 19 cycle off strong. and then let's see where we are in 19, 20, 21......by the end of year 3 we should have a really good idea of where we are, and maybe more importantly, where we're really headed.

in the meantime, be skeptical, sure, just as long as you can be patiently skeptical.:thumbsup:

I am not expecting 9 wins but I do think it's plenty fair to say if this team doesn't make a bowl then Pruitt did a bad job. 7wins should be the mark. 8 would be incredible with 6 being just ok.

at 1st pass, i agree. but the more you look at it, it's not that much different. at least there was a good o line to work behind. that 2013 season could have been so much different if you finish the deal against GA and Vandy....and both were attainable.

i think the qb situation is better today than it was perceived to be in spring of 2013. how much better? ummmm not sure. but there's experience there, 3 deep. skill position wise, i think we're better off today than we were then.

defensively....i'll call it a push right now.

the biggest advantage that '13 team had was the O line. i'll give it that for sure.

This is the worst roster in UT history - or damn close.

Couple that with the headaches that come with a total scheme change on both sides of the ball and it’s a recipe for a rough year.

Not to mention the fact we have a first time head coach with two first time coordinators. I understand we like them and have confidence they will be successful - I just wouldn’t bet on it Year 1.

hard for me to put a # on it. there is a lot that needs to be done between now and game 1. and the schedule is ridiculous.

i'd like to believe this staff is doing the work, the team doing the work, right now, that could translate in to us winning maybe a game or two that many think we shouldn't.

that'd be a nice change, wouldn't it?

but that's wishful thinking at this stage. i think we lose to GA, Bama, Aub for sure. i think WVU will be a challenge, defensively for us.

FL is a game that i think you could call a toss up right now....would be nice to get that series off to a good start under these new coaches.

then you just have no idea what's going to happen injury wise over the course of a season and how that might affect the back half of the schedule.

i think if you get 6, go to a bowl, you call it a season and move on to what should look like bigger/better things the next few seasons.

South Carolina is debatable but i think mud champ is an awful coach so it probably evens things out

I'm not that familiar with WV's roster other than Grier, who gives them a lot of offensive firepower. It's true that we have significantly outrecruited them.

Picking up a win vs. WVU or UF in Neyland would would be a confidence and momentum booster going forward. I'm not counting on it, but it would be encouraging to see.

If Greer didn’t return i would really like our chances against them. I think it’s 50:50. They literally have nothing to go off of. We have all spring/summer/fall to watch and prepare for them. Them openening as +8 was wayyyy too much

I personally think we look pretty good at WR, safety and linebacker relative to the recent past. DL is ok as well I think. OL and CB seem to be a disaster, though.

Some of you guys have revisionist history. The OL was the only strength of that team. Compare it position by position, and it's not close. I don't care to break it down because I don't have the time.

We started guys like Daniel Hood, Marlon Walls, Dontavius Sapp, Brent Brewer, and Jaron Toney on defense. Even Brian Randolph and Ladarell McNeil weren't as highly recruited as Nigel Warrior and even TK jr or Maliek Gray.

I think this roster is full of quitters and over rated busts, and they didn't get much help in the incoming class either. You can't make chicken salad out of chicken crap, no matter how great a chef you are...well you can but you are going to get a nasty surprise when you take a bite.

It is going to take a couple of years to cycle out the garbage and get enough talent to be a threat to anybody with a pulse. There are no sure SEC wins on our schedule this year imo..
