Pretty big gators out here in southeast ga on a marsh where I live. Have a skull of the 12 footer we had to kill for getting a little to close.

Alligators are moving pretty far north in GA. They are in West Point Lake now and have been seen in Franklin in the Chattahoochee. It's not too far up the river to Atlanta from there.

People will claim "global warming" but it's more due to an abundant food source and less competition for territory, food , and mates

Someone from academia bucking the company stance on global warming?!?!

*Gasp*

(Note: If I'm confusing you and Riot, apologies...I always get you two confused!)

I teach Biology. I might not be academia but I still teach the subject. (I'm pretty good when it comes to ecology also)

I did have you confused, but since you teach (and, specifically, teach science), my comment stands!

Those two things aren't mutually exclusive though. I'm not connecting them, but it's not like they're separated in a vacuum.

Global warming leads to warmer water temps. Large reptiles need the warmer water to be more active. The waters in the Tennessee River system haven't gotten warmer so the only logical explanation from there is an abundance of food and territory.

Basically , what the TWRA did when they released the video of the gators, is sign the extinction letter of gators around here.. too many family's that go out on the lake with young kids. Everyone I know is already loading up for open season. Twra says they are protected. But we are willing to accept fine if caught.

They are " protected" until they gain more numbers and some kids are killed while swimming.

Being in Florida, we have plenty of alligators. Far more people are bitten or attacked by sharks, though. I think you'll find the alligators will be a much bigger threat to your dogs than people. If any are found in populated areas, it's very easy here to have them trapped...which is a euphemism for killing them.

Of course, we have far too many Gators, if you know what I mean...they won't bite you but they will make you terminally nauseous. I wish there was something we could do about them.

Just got back from Orange Beach. Just wana say if you haven't eaten at Doc's you gota try it.

Hey, I'm glad you said something. We are looking at heading down to Ft. Morgan this coming Saturday-Wednesday. Is it warm enough down there for the kids to swim? We're worried that it might not have warmed up enough yet.

What do you recommend at Doc's? What other places did you try?

So I shouldn't have to worry about my toddler swimming on the sand bar at the lake? Nah. I'll do my part in killing any that I see. But families on the lake don't wanna have to worry about that crap. However I know it will be a rarity, and I'll prob never see one. But it's dead if I do. Damn the law.

There are lots of alligators in South GA lakes like Seminole and people swim and ski there all the time. People will be fine.

The gulf was cold but my kids got in after lunch. It was 75 and windy so i sat on the beach and burned but the kids swam and were cold until they dried off. I ate at Doc's and got the seafood platter and the grilled shrimp was excellent. GT's by the bay I got steak n shrimp and it was good but the shrimp didn't touch Doc's. Then i tried Desoto Seafood in gulf shores and got crab cakes and they were good too. Doc's portions were great and i was eating off everyone's plate. I tried everything and it was good.

The indoor heated pool came in handy

It’s a federal crime. Alligator attacks are extremely rare and usually are provoked. I literally studied them for five years and worked close with them. Hunt them if you want but one wrong shot at close range could end your life.
