The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

OK, the shop is called Fighting SHeep Dog. Their address will show Edgemore Road in Powell but they've moved this week to Oliver Springs. I have had issues with them, especially over this suppressor. I paid for the suppressor, in full, in cash in August of 2016. They had to order the suppressor and was told it would take a month, it took three. Then I did everything they asked me to do. Paid for the stamp. Stopped by several times to make sure we were good to go. After a year I still didn't have it so I again stopped by. She again said everything was good to go and we should hear any time. Something felt off to me so I call Silencer Shop. They told me nothing had been submitted. I went back and she said she'd check. Finger pointing everywhere. I still don't have it but I have gotten confirmation that it is in the hands of the ATF now. Hopefully not too much longer.

Moral of the story. They are good for the transfers. I've heard their gunsmithing is good and they do the cerakoting. They good with my trust and my SBR application and submittal. I would just be cautious and stay on them.

Hmmmm. Appreciate the info but given some of your observations I may see what I can glean from a few local NFA guys I know.

You might try Knoxville Tactical. I'll probably move over there. Fighting sheepdog was worth a little aggravation when they were 5 miles from the house but not having to drive to Oliver springs.

Shipped my RIA compact .45 back to Armscor today for Trijicon sights and the tuneup they do when you send a gun back in. 4-6 weeks.

I miss my Rock. Somebody warn GV; I might need a hug later.....

How do you like the RI product?

A lot. The Rock was my first personal 45. Coming from the military, I grew up on the 1911; transitioned to the Beretta 92M (hated it); and then when I got into LEO work, we went from the S&W 9mm auto to the H&K USP 45. So the .45 was in my blood, so to speak. And the 1911 is a proven platform; always liked it.

So when I thought my LE days were behind me, I traded in a Ruger SP101 for the Rock. At the time, money was tight, and so the Rock was a good option at a reasonable price.

Solid, solid gun. Shoots anything. Shoots well. Never had a malfunction. It's a heavy gun for it's size, but it's all steel and that weight helps absorb the recoil. I run 230 gr hardball for practice, and 230 gr Federal HST's for defense, and it shoots both well. My only gripe was the GI sights (new Rock's have addressed that), but I don't even use the sights at <10 yards, so...perfect self-home / defense gun.

You can quote all of the articles you want about how the 9mm / .40 are the equal of the .45. The .45 is a proven fight-stopper, so that's what I carry.

Anyhow, it's on it's way back to Armscor for Trijicon sights and a tune-up. For roughly half of what I paid for it. Based on what that gun has done for me over the years, money well spent.

Hope that helps.

It does. I'd like to purchase a .45. I would like a SA/DA though and I don't think they make one.

Grand threw some ideas my way.

As for a DA 1911, I don't think anyone has made one other than Para Ordnance. Allegedly, there was a Colt at one point, but not much info.

If you really want a .45 in DA, The Sig P220 is really the best option out there.

I could be mistaken but I thought I saw this random "going out of business" tv advertisement for them sometime last year.

At any rate that truly sounds like an exceptionally frustrating situation.

I do like sigs in general. I've looked at the czs but they are difficult to find, even new.

I don't think so. Another thing I'll add, they had a silencer shop kiosk in there building. The kiosk looks like an atm and is used to apply for the suppressor. You answer all the appropriate questions and it takes all your finger prints and such. When I called silencer shop to inquire about my application they asked me who the dealer was. I told them and the guy said they were terrible and they would be pulling their dealership. I told him the kiosk was in there and he said it wouldn't be for long. A week later it was gone.

I’m gonna pick up a Kel-Tec Sub 2000 next

Picked one up last year that takes Glock mags. It would be admittedly cheaper now.

As has been said, it’s not wild about the 33 rounders but it’s an absolute ball otherwise. I really wish I could just leave it in my truck but the guards at work tend to frown on that.

I’ve worked with Rachel before on basic transfers, but this is the exact reason I’ve been so hesitant to let them do actual work. Everybody always seem to have a minor annoyance or odd gripe that they really don’t need to put up with.

I talked to them about cerakote-ing some spare sunglasses I have, so I might let them try that before I give them a pistol to work on.

She seems to be very nice. Every time i go in there they've got 10 people in line it seems. They could have a huge business if they would just better manage the place. I'll probably not bother with them much now since they're moving to Oliver springs. Too far to drive to put up with the hassle.

Totally agree. She’s a cool lady, but they admittedly have an odd approach to things.

I’m just in Karns so it was incredibly convenient to stop by after leaving Oak Ridge. I guess I’ll be shopping for another place to transfer through.
