If you shopped judiciously and bought in bulk that's not impossible. I just priced primer/bullet/powder at 19c on Midway.
Also double check that price on dies. Midway has 300 BO dies for around $50.
He mentioned the cheaper dies but said something about carbide dies. And then something about a powder hopper?
On the reloading. He found 5000 55grain 223 for $384 I think. Powder runs about $30/pound. From what i reseached a pound is about 7000 grains. Most loads are 25 grains/ load. Primers are about .03?
Is my math right?

Thanks to both of you guys. I've never done it. My brother has been loading 9mm and 380 for a while. He's just now upgraded to this other machine that sort if dies everything. I think he said it was a progressive machine. I hadn't factored in the shipping cost but I looked at various powders and they all seemed to be in the $30 range for a pound. All the loads I saw were about 25 grains for 556. I sort of extrapolated out the cost of powder from that. He's not going to sell me ammo for a profit. We're just going in together. I trust he knows what he's doing.
As to the dies. He said he could get the carbide dies for $150-$200 for the 300B/O. The he started talking about a couple of more items that took it up. Not sure what those were.
If you're going to do an SBR, I would make sure I did a multi-cal lower. The stamp goes with the lower so you can use different short uppers. That's what I did. I'm waiting for my stamp on my suppressor so I'll have a nifty little 300b/o sbr with a suppressor on it. Can't wait to see how quiet it shoots with subsonic ammo in it.
LOL! See, I'll probably be asking YOU about stuff before long. Actually now - did you do your paperwork personally or through a trust?
I had a dealer here local that set up a trust for me when I did the SBR. They are handling the suppressor too through Silencer shop. Remember, after you get your SBR stamp you have to have the lower receiver engraved. They handled that for me too. I got started with them because they offer a $20 transfer, $10 for the background check and $10 for the transfer. If you do multiple, it only goes up by $10 so you could do 2 for $30, 3 for $40 ect.
Just FYI, the 5.56 cans (the ones with the bandoliers) are the same size as the .50 cal cans.
Yep.
