Mass shooting of the week, high school in parkland, FL.

I think the positives that I took from the open forum were that POTUS openly and candidly communicated with people who have been personally effected with situations like, Florida, Colorado and Sandy Hook and asked them what we should do to make sure these situations at least happen at a smaller rate. It obviously remains to be seen if anything will come from it. Hopefully something will be done to reduce these horrible mass murders. However, there is no simple answer and I think it will be a very long process.
I didn't watch the whole thing, and I wasn't riveted to the pats I did watch. IMHO, some of the last people that should be weighing in on the security issue and prevention of this kind of thing are parents of these kinds of tragedies because they are way too emotionally involved and on top of that more than likely have zero knowledge of the kinds of security that would prevent this. Many of the Sandy Hook crowd is 'muh guns'; get rid of them and problem solved.

Ask yourself how we have prevented another 9/11 in MY industry. You are not going to change the mind of the jihadis and you certainly aren't going to disarm them, so you have to prevent them from access to the 'weapon' in that case the cockpit of the airplane. Harden the target. That is actually the second third or even fourth layer of security to prevent another 9/11. Even I don't know the real amount of behind the scenes security. The last line of defense is the armed pilot. You attempt to go thru that armored cockpit door in flight, and you are going to be shot.... right square in the face. No.questions.asked. This is nothing different except that liberals believe banning certain kinds of weapons will solve this problem. In a parallel universe somewhere that is happening and intelligent people are watching the next school killing saying "see? told you"

In fact, the two gun laws signed by Obama actually expanded the rights of gun owners in the United States. Attempts to limit the size of gun magazines, expand background checks of gun buyers and ban gun sales to buyers on terrorism watch lists all failed to pass under Obama.

How so? The bill to block sales to those on the terrorist watch list was a straight party line vote except for Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) and Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL). Kirk still lost by 15 points to Tammy Duckworth in 2016 by the way.

That I have them. Whatever they are. And because you are afraid of daylight and have your head sucked inside your shell does nothing to diminish my rights.

From what coverage I saw of it I agree. The problem is his handlers who are beholden to the NRA and field the phone calls will shut him down.

Part of the problem is bullies who make fun of people and never shut up. They constantly say and do things to people to the point where they snap. All because they don't like what they wear, or what they believe and so on.

It makes me question if you're a real lawyer. Because I always thought you had to be able to adapt to a situation and argument, to which I've not seen you be able to do.

If you are a real lawyer it must suck to walk into court with the same argument every day knowing you're going to lose again.

The Constitution does not limit rights. It limits the federal government. It explicitly stated the rights in the bor to get the anti-federalists to vote to ratify it. It even states that rights are not limited to those in the bor.

That is a big fat lie. lmao We are at "sh**hole" levels of crime and violence compared to other developed/first world nations.

I'll avoid the abrasiveness while agreeing the meme quote that you responded to is incorrect. I have spent time going through the numbers from the CDC and FBI crime statistics. The US homocide rate by gun is substantially higher than other industrialized countries.

Here is the "but." A major problem with the US rate is the homocide rate among young black males (number one cause of death I believe) and, when I studied it, excluding blacks dropped the US gun homocide rate into the middle of the pack.

Now, the "study" was mine, based on CDC and FBI statistics readily available. So not interested in arguing whether my "study" is correct or not. The stats are out there for anyone to perform their own and there are probably more recent numbers available than the ones I used from at least a year or two ago.

We do have somewhat unique racial and social aspects to American society that differ from other industrialized nations. Whatever the cause, because of the substantial statistical difference, for the sake of this discussion I think comparing non-black rates to the world is a legitimate comparison.

Schools rarely deal with bullies. I’ve heard a second hand account from a teacher of a kid here in Knoxville being threatening to shoot another student. The bully’s family had a gun in the home. What happened to the bully for this incident? 2 days of in school suspension.

The ability to discipline kids has to be restored to teachers and schools.

Interesting take. There is a certain truth here imho, but I think it pertains as much or more to the shooter. THEY want to inflict damage but also fear, and big black scary guns do just that. Id be willing to bet Cruz or any of the other kids don't think past that when they plan their attacks. They are terrorists.
