Five-star SG Anfernee Simons visiting this weekend

If Barnes sticks to his game plan, and it's obviously working, then you take Harris all day. But how would you tell Simons no? A big part of the fans would lose their minds

You’re not publicly going to tell him no...if he wants to wait until June you try and land Harris now, and continue to recruit Simons. Either 1. he goes NBA and it doesn’t matter, 2. Someone transfers out and you have room for him 3. Nobody transfers out and he chooses NCST, but doesn’t publicly state I was going to TN but they didn’t have an open scholarship

I’m comparing his first 2 contracts as a rookie...if he gets a similar raise in Year 4 with both contracts then he made more money in Option 2.

Again, it all depends on what his projection is and what his situation is, but it’s not a no-brainer...he’s far from the only person to return to school.

You're making assumptions and are using a tiny sample size in your projected earnings. How many 6'3" guards are electing to pass up a potential first round draft selection for an initial year of school?

I see him going to college to become a top ten pick. The contract money and potential endorsements from exposure in college makes it the logical choice.

Or...

3 year total: $4,505,700 vs. 3 year total: $7,045,300

Show him more money...

If it was a no-brainer then everyone would declare early, no?

It's not that simple.

That $7 mil projection is based on the assumption that he actually improves his stock, but if that growth were a guarantee there would be no need for him to prove anything.

In reality what he's looking at is 3 year total: $4.7 mil vs 3 year total: $7 mil or $0-1.5 mil if he drops to the second round.

It all comes down to how much he is willing to gamble on himself, because it is a gamble.

10/30 players projected to go 1st round in this years draft are guys who’ve attended at least 2 years of college, or 33%.

And I said as much...

If he is confident he can improve his stock then he may very well do so, there’s a reason you see guys returning to school every year that are projected 1st round picks.

Donovan Mitchell(6’2”) & Luke Kennard(6’6”) were freshman who elected to return for their sophomore seasons, they were drafted 12&13 in last years draft. Derrick White(6’4”) & Josh Hart(6’5”) were 2 seniors who elected to pass on the draft earlier in their careers and were drafted in the 1st round last year as well.

It's not as simple as waiting a year or not. It's an entirely different class of draftees.

6'3" and can sign for millions now? No brainer... he needs to do that. If he's a great player he'll be a year closer to his second contract.

Obviously not a no-brainer as Donovan Mitchell just last year opted to return to Louisville to boost his stock, which he did.

Keep saying it’s a no-brainer though, it’s lesson 1 in the SD school of arguing.

Donovan Mitchell's situation is different. 1 versus 2 years of college in his case.

Next years draft class is weaker than this years. That’s what BTO was hinting at btw even though you dodged that question.

What is different? He passed on a year of pay to improve his stock, something you said was a no-brainer not to do.

He's already shown that he can compete against a higher level of competition. Simons would be gambling millions of dollars that he's maybe going to have a larger contract against the possibility that he could get nothing. It's a no-brainer. He should become a multi-millionaire now if that's an option.

As I’ve said a thousand times, it depends on a lot of things...his projection, his guarantee from a team, his families situation, the expected draft class this year versus next...a lot of things to consider, clearly not a no-brainer or he would’ve already declared and started training with NBA personnel.

As I've said a couple if times, if a 6'3" teenager that's never played a minute of college basketball can sign for multiple millions of dollars, it's a no-brainer.

Lol ok. Again obviously not, many kids have elected college over NBA for a year, keep showing your basketball knowledge though.
