I know exactly how they work. I was just using it to point out you were lowering the bar.

Why not hope to finish strong? Let's dare to be great.

Lowering what bar? Computers say 8-4 I said 7-5...seems pretty similar to me?

Why not hope to finish strong? Did you ignore my post where this whole conversion started?

We are favored in 11 out of 12 games and you want 7-5?

Oh so now you wanna use advanced metrics and not the eye test?

@ISU
@UK
@Bama
@UGA
vs. Florida

Are all games that imo are probably toss up’s...I also don’t expect us to win every single game we are favored in, that doesn’t happen in conference play...I don’t see much wrong with 7-5, it wouldn’t be the awesome finish I’m sure we all hope for, but it would likely still have us ranked and in a favorable seed.

Somewhere around here you are quoted saying an 8-4 finish would be great. Not sure I follow why you are coming at posters for saying they would take 7-5. Only one game difference

Well you posted in the “expectations” thread and said it was your “prediction”...so I think you covered both bases.

Yeah. I was just tossing that out there as a side note.

My expectations were to make the tournament. Meaning that is the minimum of what I expected. I really did not have any expectations greater than that though.

I also predicted we make the dance but I wasn't very confident in that prediction truth be told. And honestly if you had asked me again on a different day I may have said otherwise. As you can tell my comments I felt like we were gonna be a bubble team.

Now - fast forward to today. We are 9-2 in ooc play with a trip to Iowa State coming up. Iowa State is in complete rebuild mode. 9 new players. Should finish 10-2 OOC.

We are 4-3 in conference play and have the easiest stretch of our conference schedule coming up. A chance to go 3-0 in our next 3 and splitting the final 8 should be very doable given what we've shown so far this season.

So yeah, if we limp down the stretch(I haven't put a number on that) it will be disappointing. You see, BTO, you want to pin everyone down to being happy with a number. I don't work that way. You may have said to yourself no matter what if we win 19 games this year I will be happy with everything all the way through. I didn't.

That doesn't mean that we can't look at the season as a whole at the end of the year and say "you know what? We made some real progress this year. Good season all in all." We can have that attitude and still be upset with the way we finish down the stretch if that does in fact happen.

I’m sure the others would agree with your stance, your inferences the last couple pages are pretty clear. You say how it is lowering the bar, or keeping expectations in check...how else did you mean it, very curious to hear?

I mean that no matter what we do you are always protecting the coach against the rising expectations. That's what I meant.

We are ranked 22nd for crying out loud. Why do we have to be satisfied with 7-5 to finish?

That one game difference might very well be Iowa state.

I would have bet my ass we wouldn't win all 3 of the road power 5 games but by golly we have a real shot

They are pretty bad. The texas tech win was nice. Other than that they are pretty awful. They sit at the bottom of their conference and have been blown out several times this year.

Yes they are bad. All Vandy type teams but you know my opinion of road wins. Ga tech does have a good win though

I expected a little bigger drop RPI wise tonight than we got.

We only dropped one spot to 13

Yup, and actually moved up a spot on KP.

Clemson lost tonight and they were ahead of us in KP, and AP Poll...also in the NCAA Team sheet rankings as well.

I said it after that our game with them but Kennedy just plain ole sucks. A&M is real trouble now

The NCAA hasn't updated their team sheets today, but they did publish the final RPI standings from 1980. Vols 43th. 3rd in the SEC behind Kentucky and LSU.

Vols were coached by Don Devoe that year. They started the season by beating #9 St. John's, then losing by 2 to eventual NCAA champion Louisville. Went 1-1 against UK, including a win when they were ranked #2. Also came within 2 points of beating #10 Indiana.

Tennessee earned a 7 seed, beat Furman in the first round before losing to 2nd seed Maryland in the 2nd in a game that Bert Bertelkamp shelled out 16 assists.

Rip Johnson, Seth McDonald, Ralph Parton, and Kevin Nash. The original New World Order.

Stone Cold Steve Austin has a podcast. A few years back he had Kevin Nash on there and he was telling stories from his basketball days at UT. I think he grabbed Devoe by the throat and cussed him.

I'll see if I can dig it up later.
