The Official 2nd Amendment Appreciation Thread

It’s pretty cool. It locks up real tight on the fsp. Gonna slap a surefire x300 ultra on it and take it to the range this weekend. There are concerns with heat, but it’s not designed to be used for prolonged strings of fire. We will see, it’s a nice alternative for me.

The one I have is discontinued:

Command Arms Picatinny 2-Rail System AR-15 Front Sight - MPN: TPR15X

But it used to have a third rail that dropped down in front and follows the contour of the barrel.

Looks like GG&G has something similar:

Flashlight Mounts | Tactical Light Mount | Dual Rail Light Mount

well my 10/22 is gone...got the parts in, and took it to a co-worker to give to a family friend that's an armorer at Ft Chaffee, to put the parts on and his house was broken into earlier this week, and the gun was stolen along with basically everything in his house..

The thieves also broke into his neighbors house and took everything, and ransacked both houses...

DAMN THIEVES!!

I am sorry, sir.

Finally got to shoot my Ruger .22 and EAA .38. I'm happy to say that there were no problems with either. They're both pretty accurate although the .38 is something of a dog when shooting DA, but SA it's just fine.

But damn, that Ruger is a PITA to break down and reassemble.

When I worked at a shooting range I had one of the members show me how to re assemble my 22/45, still couldn’t get it first try. You have to hold it just right and ease the pin in

I should also add that that the difference between my Ruger Mark I (A100 frame) and a modern Mark IV is like the difference between a 1965 Mustang and a 2017 GT350R.

The Mrs. wants a small revolver for carry purposes and I purchased this one over the weekend. Hopefully she'll decline and want another ultra lite revolver...Since I would like to keep this one for myself. Ruger SP in 357.

If she's looking at a revolver specifically and that one is more than a handful, I might even suggest a Ruger SP101 in .327 Federal Mag. A whole lot tamer on the recoil and you can still downgrade to the H&R Mag or even a .32 S&W Long.

GV, wanted to share a good story with you, and get your opinion on a couple of other related issues:

- I bought my wife an S&W M+P .38 Bodyguard for Christmas. She told me she was ready to start carrying again, so we'll get her the Georgia WCL, and I'll sign her up for some classes at Telluric (we have one close by) to get her back up to speed.

- While buying her gun, I spotted a Springfield Armory 1911 Range Officer model that had been traded in. Less than 100 rounds through it, and it came with all of the standard accessories & case, plus a nice wooden presentation case that the original purchaser had bought. Had Hogue combat grips, but the original wood grips still in the box. The price tag said $749.99. The owner of the store, who is very friendly to local LE, offered me 15% off, so we're at...what, 636 and change? I told him I loved the gun, but too rich for my blood. While I'm paying for Diana's gun, he walks up with the gun in it's case, sets it down, and says "500 plus tax".

Obviously, I bought the gun. The only thing missing was one (of the three) SA mags, so I just ordered (4) CMC 8-rd mags.

Good deal, yes?

- Lastly, I have received good intel that there will be an eSSA trigger under the Christmas tree. Is this an install that I can do, or do I need to find an AR armorer. If so, not to worry, there are about half a dozen of them where I work.

Just wanted to share all that with you, and get your opinion on the Bodyguard as a ladies gun.

Happy Holidays.

Printing. Why do people seem to put so much into it's prevention? A recent policy change in my workplace compelled me to go to pocket carry. People who know what to look for and who are looking can tell, although that does not put me sideways with the policy (basically, they don't want it to look like a precinct station in our office). My primary concern is street crime between my office building and the separated parking garage. A distant secondary concern would be laying down a bit of covering fire to get to an exit in the event of an active shooter in the building although I can keep something more suitable for a firefight in my office for this purpose if I so choose. I'm not really concerned with printing but it seems to be an obsession on a lot of gun forums I've looked at. I can see why a secret agent or maybe someone who has a propensity for being in a hostage situation like a bank or pharmacy employee would be concerned with printing but it just seems like there is a lot of unnecessary obsession with it. What am I missing?

My only issue with printing is that it obviously tips off anyone who knows what to look for. Personally, if push comes to shove, I'd rather you not know I'm armed until it's too late to do you any good. So I take measures to not "print".

Same goes for the large percentage of CC folks out there who have their weapon aft of the 3 or 9 o'clock position on their strong side. I know a few who carry in the back area. Usually easy to spot.

IMO, huge mistake. Anyone behind you who sees that you are carrying owns you. Push your forward, take your gun, and kill you with it.

My CC guns are a Rock Island compact 1911, and a Glock 30S. Usually, I carry the Glock. The RI is easier to shoot, but a very heavy chunk of metal. Both go in an IWB holster at my 1 o'clock position (I'm right-handed), with either an overshirt, or an untucked button-down shirt. FWIW, there's no "print". It took a little getting used to, but I'm comfortable with it now, and I have practiced "draw & fire 2" drills to the point where I can draw and put 2 rounds in the 10 zone of a silhouette target at 7 yards in less than 3 seconds. Not competition level skill, but it should get me out of any armed robbery I walk in to.

Counting my duty weapon, I own three (well, now four) defensive handguns. I shoot all of them monthly, and I'm no Jeff Cooper, but if you're close enough, and I see you coming, you might be in trouble. That's the beauty of a .45. It really doesn't matter where I hit you, I just have to hit you.

My two cents worth.

Her preference is definitely with the revolvers. I'm not that familiar with that cartridge but I'll look into it. Thanks for the info.

Anyone know anything about O/U shotguns? Shot one this week at Garland Mountain in GA (think golf with shotguns) and fell in love. Granted it was a $2K Beretta. I'm more in the $500-$700 range. Looking at a Mossberg Silver Reserve II so far. Would be used for sporting clays and dove/upland birds. Thoughts?

Here's the thing with the "ladies guns"...If she's happy with it, BUY IT!

As for the 1911, I'd hope you ripped his arm off when taking it. Though that deal sounds almost too good to be true. The 1911 is kinda like the AR of the pistol world, all sorts of bells and whistles to add to it, but way more complicated to add for the most part. As for the CMC mags, you'll be happy with those. Other good brands are Wilson Combat, Tripp, Mec Gar and ACT that'll work great.

Yes, you should get someone to install the SSA trigger for you unless you have the blocks and punches needed for the job.

Appreciate the response. Yeah, I'm pretty tickled about the SA. Going to register it on the SA website this evening, then break it down and make sure it's all there. I trust the dealer, and he's done some really good deals for our guys in the past (usually on an AR for duty carry), but this is the first time he did me so nice. But I bought my AR, my Rock Island, and my Glock from him, so...

Now, as for ammo for that S&W, I'm thinking standard .38 Federal HST's. Same brand I carry in my .45's. Recoil be okay for Diana?

Happy Holidays.

For the money the Mossy you mention is pretty well regarded. I've heard some good things from CZ and Yildiz but apparently a really good O/U tends to run high. Maybe look for a used Citori?

Any thoughts on kimber micro 380? This thing calls to me, it's just beautiful
Pretty gun. If you cannot find one at a range, ask for a Sig P238. Both are good quality clones of the Colt Mustang and I would assume function about the same. The P238 is a nice micro compact pistol but when I needed a pocket carry recently I went with the Glock 42. I shot several 380s and a couple of micro 9s before choosing. The G42 is a little bigger but still fits in my front pants pocket easily and it is pure joy to shoot.

Once your heart is set on an ou, it is hard to resist but think about the weight of an extra barrel as you hunt the fields. If you must buy, the best suggestion I can give is to stretch your budget and try to get a browning or beretta and consider it an investment that you will at least break even on if you keep it in good shape.

Thanks all, great feedback! That Beretta was amazing.....Hit almost every clay at a couple the stations.

Thanks for the explanation on printing GreyWolf.

Glad to help, but let me add the disclaimer that I only know what works for me. I actually lean on Grand Vol quite a bit for technical info on guns. He seems to know what he's talking about, and he has been invaluable in helping me get my Colt AR set up for "real world" use.

I've been an LEO for...24 years now, and while I haven't seen it all, I've seen a lot. I am armed 24/7, and yes, I've been in an OIS, where I was lucky and decided that from that point forward, I would be good. You can't always count on luck.

I bought my RIA compact .45 because I love the 1911; I bought my Glock 30S for the light weight, 10 round capacity, and reliability of the Glock brand. I bought the Springfield 1911 Range Officer (yesterday) because...again...I love the 1911, and 500 bucks for a 900 dollar gun was just too good to pass up.

I carry concealed, and no one beyond my wife, my family, close friends, and fellow members of our church security team know it. I make every effort to not advertise the fact that I am armed. I don't carry to impress, I carry to survive. If I draw on you, you have put me in reasonable fear for my life or the life of another, and one of us is about to get shot. Simple as that. My weapons are a tool, and I treat them with the same respect I would any tool that can get me or someone else killed if it's used improperly. I practice regularly. My S.O. also requires quarterly "active shooter" training, where we use Simunitions and role players. It's tough, but it's great training.

We all have the choice to be a sheep, or a sheepdog. I might get killed by a rank amateur tomorrow, but if I do, it'll be because he got lucky, not because I didn't know what to do. On the other hand, if I have enough time to recognize the threat, I like my chances.

No place is safe anymore. Schools, malls, movie theaters, churches, nothing. Any place, and every place, is a potential combat zone. So while I am not paranoid, I would like to think that I am prepared. All I can do.

Good luck, and keep safe.
