You're only on your 10th? I feel like I'm at least on my 16th.

Let's see....

No Gruden - nut punch
Schiano announcement - nut punch
Gundy - nut punch
Brohm - nut punch
Thinking Doeren was coming - nut punch
Mike Leach - nut punch
Thinking Reid Sigmon was going to be AD - nut punch
Hubbs being unable to rule out Kevin Steele - nut punch
Les Miles & His All-Starr Band disappearing as an option seemingly overnight - nut punch
Chris Petersen interview happening and then not happening - nut punch

That's 10. Venables turning us down would make it 11. Morris 12. And Steele being announced would be 13 and hopefully the final nut punch of the coaching search. It would also be by far the most painful.

Not necessarily pertinent to just the Vols but:

Sumlin turned down UCF because he "sees himself as a better fit elsewhere"

hmmm...

Wow. Sumlin definitely has the safest floor of any candidate (even Petersen.)

Seems like he's listening to other schools.

Don't think venables is realistic. Doesn't he want to stay put?

He said he’d only leave for the job he wants and the right fit. Money doesn’t matter to him, he doesn’t wanna go somewhere and fail

Yea who knows. Another thing to consider is I doubt Fulmer would want to overshadow Manning tomorrow night with an announcement.

That’s a better point. Is this CFB HOF thing on TV?

I think the announcement is gonna be Wednesday at the earliest but could see it leaking out early.

Venables, Morris and Miles are all fine.

Just not sold on Pruitt. Too much Lane in him. In fact, if he took our job and did OK with it, I’d think he would be the betting favorite to succeed Saban at Bama (yes, over Dabo, who I think would be inclined to stay put).

Not sold on Tucker. This year is the first good defense he’s coordinated, right? And that whole defense will be in the NFL next year.

Not sold on Steele and won’t beat a dead horse here.

Same here. Right after the UF loss, Venables might have been the first guy I thought of as a replacement. Great recruiter, arguably the best DC in the game, and would likely bring a very impressive staff.

I remember you and I throwing his name around in early August. He's been one of the consistent names.

Until Dabo heads back to Bama? I think everyone understands Dabo is the "coach in waiting" for Bama and Venables will take over for Dabo at Clemson.

He is never leaving Clemson. He goes to Bama and loses a few games and they will want him out. He is going to end up having the stadium named after him at Clemson. He is 64 wins behind Frank Howard and it took Howard 30 years to get there. Dabo got to 101 in 8 1/2 years. He has pointed out many times that he has spent more years at Clemson than he ever did at Bama. It will be a death trap for whoever follows Saban.

What about that Miles email?

Miles is still at the top of the list. No way we are getting Petersen and I really don't know why we keep headed there. From what I gather is that Tee will not commit to OC role with Miles as HC. Lateral move from USCw to UT is not a great move for Tee in my opinion. He really wants the HC, but no way is he ready to clean up this dumpster fire.

I worry about Pruitt going back to Bama at some point given his connections to the school and the fact that he has gone back there after every time he has left. And he is from Bama. Do not want.

If he does good enough for that to be a worry it's worth it

I want Venebles. I don't think we had a shot until Fulmer was hired as AD. He is being very selective for his first HC gig, and knows he can have his alma mater soon given KSU's coach is very old.

He is likely deciding whether he wants to start roots in TN or wait for KSU.

I think part of the reason Snyder nixed the Leavitt deal at KSU is that he is going to install his son as HC.

You are kidding yourself. Alabama is the #1 program of all time (or at least since 1935). As a former QB there, he will be off to Tuscaloosa in a second.
