Venables

Fulmer takes Kirby route

I would be ok with this as well, because it would undermine Clemson in a way, who has become a big problem for us.

I don't believe there exists a college football reality where Clemson and Tennessee can simultaneously be elite.

Morris or Venables. Either would kill it here.

This is the obvious answer IMO. We can afford either one and they both have inroads into our recruiting territory. Should be able to assemble strong staffs. Both have high upsides. This is a full rebuild. Needs to be done by a guy that is ready to make his mark and do it the right way.

I used to like the gruden thread now i realize they are all trolls who post cryptic stuff and bring no actual info. Forgive me and accept me back to the recruiting forum?

Funny thing is, there's actually been better Gruden info in these threads this time around than the Gruden thread and their redneck mafia. Here you got stuff like Ron's posts from TOS, or Cat reporting abou Gruden being at the airport.

We're past that now anyways.

Venables is full-circle for me on this coaching search. I wanted him pretty much immediately after the UF loss (or maybe it was UGA). Then we all got our heads in the clouds and thought we were getting *insert elite coach here*.

And by that I mean I'm setting myself up for about the 10th nut punch in this coaching search.

Couldn't hire the new coach on football talk fifty. The Roman numeral ain't a good one.

Plus Neyland's last National Championship was in '51.

Good signs!

The Petersen rumors aren't true, are they? I've been swamped all day and have barely been able to keep up with Twitter. I've seen some smoke about it, but that would be ridiculous...

If we're looking at other coordinators and Les, I would assume that the ship has sailed on a currently elite HC that is entrenched in his role/area.

Same here. Right after the UF loss, Venables might have been the first guy I thought of as a replacement. Great recruiter, arguably the best DC in the game, and would likely bring a very impressive staff.

You're only on your 10th? I feel like I'm at least on my 16th.

Don't think venables is realistic. Doesn't he want to stay put?

I want Venebles. I don't think we had a shot until Fulmer was hired as AD. He is being very selective for his first HC gig, and knows he can have his alma mater soon given KSU's coach is very old.

He is likely deciding whether he wants to start roots in TN or wait for KSU.

Not necessarily pertinent to just the Vols but:

Sumlin turned down UCF because he "sees himself as a better fit elsewhere"

hmmm...

Until Dabo heads back to Bama? I think everyone understands Dabo is the "coach in waiting" for Bama and Venables will take over for Dabo at Clemson.
