I should have just checked out until the coach is standing at the podium.

This is a never-ending train wreck. I can't look away!

I need you guys to understand that John Currie knew he was going to be fired yesterday. They told him to stay in Knoxville and he wouldn't do it. He knew it was coming.

I understand we like Leach and that was exciting for a moment, but Currie 100% took that meeting so he could leak that he had a deal in place with a candidate people like so he could make Fulmer and the rest look bad when their search gets started.

He's a piece of ****. He just wants everyone to look bad but himself.

And he specifically went after Leach because our higher ups (president, chancelor, etc.) were all a hard NO on Leach from the beginning.

He absolutely tried to force their hand through the media and it was his last ditch effort.

This is going to sound stupid, but I much prefer Fulmer making the decision to hire Steele than Currie making the same decision.

I do think more coaches will be willing to talk to Fulmer than Currie. Everyone on the outside of this could see that Currie was going to be fired. Why would a coach come in knowing there's about to be a change at AD?

Fulmer very well could make a bad hire. There's no guarantee otherwise. But it won't be because Haslam forces it down his throat. And that might not be fruitful for this particular search, but it will certainly be in the future.

Fulmer brings stability to the table for coaches. Wait and see this changes the pool of candidates

You ALL wanted Haslam out.

This had to be done this way.

Yes, we might have lost Leach - short sighted - in the long run this is a major win for UT.

Fulmer and those that will remain and will be brought in won't pander to Haslam.

Fulmer is not in Haslam's pocket - the one guy for sure I know will stand up to him.

If this is true, I am all in on this taking place today. I wonder is John Currie was trying to win favor from the anti Haslam group by going rogue.

Doesn't run the ball and question marks on defense and recruiting.

Not a fit here. Would be a great hire for Missouri.

FYI Missouri and Vanderbilt just waxed us. Kentucky and South Carolina just beat us. We are 2-4 against Missouri last 6 years. Just thought you should know.

Well, Leach is still out there. So is Les. Still good candidates on the board.

Like I said, proof is at the podium. He brings in a winner, great. He trots out Steele, this was all for nothing.

Not necessarily for nothing. Football will suffer in the short term, but in the long run, if it means the Haslams lose some of their stranglehold, it could work out.

I don’t trust Phil to make a good hire further than I can throw him (which isn’t far)

Hope he proves me wrong, but I have a feeling it’s gonna be one of his old buddies he brings in (Steele)

It will be Tee. Someone to control. Throw in a few former Vols as position coaches. It will bring 3 or 4 years of 7 win seasons.

Gonna keep copying and pasting this all day------------ Super simple.

Fulmer and Co are now officially on the clock. We will know soon enough what the real story is. If Fulmer goes out and brings us a winner, then he is the solution. If he goes for one of his buddies and underwhelms us with someone like Steele, then he was/is just as much part of the problem.

1. Last time Fulmer pulled a coup, we entered the golden age of UT football.
2. A lot of this stuff is hard to swallow and we obviously aren’t getting perfect information.

I’m in hang up and listen mode at this point. Not gonna rush to judgment.

Sounds about right. Not convinced anyone involved in this has UT’s best interest in mind, even Phil.

It’s all egos and petty ****.

Right - people see this and assume he was trying to go against the Haslams with the Leach hire and that's why he was fired. When in reality it was his last middle finger to the whole administration - Fulmer, DiPietro and Davenport included.

He wanted to muddy the waters as much as he could on the way out the door.

Amen. I'll be so pumped if Fulmer gets the AD position. I'd look for him to target Brohm and Steele. And I'd be fine with either l.

After taking a step back, this is what we have been begging for all along- we are just blinded by Leach and the thought of getting Steele. I cannot imagine Fulmer and the boosters would have done something like this only to hire a coach they have to know isn't the right hire. This is a critical time and would be Phil's first hire- it's monumental actually. Perhaps Gruden or someone of that caliber is truly in play, Currie and Haslam just had to be removed to make it happen?

You MFs that think Phil Fulmer dont have UTs back are out of your minds. This man would die on the lawn in front of Ayers Hall defending this place.

I won’t lie. I was really wanting Leach after getting excited last night but we will see who we go after now. Maybe he is still in play but I’m not sure I see Fulmer going after him. Fulmer has a lot of contacts let’s hope that he can pull a rabbit out of a hat.

Exactly and VN will swallow it. Boosters will still be in control and Bama, Clemson. & Ohio St will still be winning big and letting their coaches run the program and not their boosters.
