I couldn’t care less about $ spent and more about results. Gundy is up there with best available coaches possibly willing to come to UT. In terms of risk management, he’s less of a risk than most with a potentially high upside.

This should be his absolutely homerun selling point. The guy is about to have his 3rd straight 10 win season there. He's finished in the top 5 there. He's beaten top 10 teams there.

His recruiting base is one of the worst in the nation. He's far and away the little brother in his own state and is dealing strictly with the leftovers from Texas, TCU, and Oklahoma.

He will sign top 15 classes here, just like every single coach who ever coached here except for Dooley, who still signed top 25 classes.

While Bama, Georgia, Florida, Auburn, and LSU will always be a few steps ahead. I like Gundy, just not if we are planning to be a real top flight top 10 program year in and year out, just more of the same 7-10 win seasons.

Two days in a row Josh Ward has had a national yahoo guy on their show essentially calling UT fans idiots. I'm sick of WNML.

We should email their account executives and let them know we will not put up with the continual bashing of the fan base. We can mobilize to start contacting their advertisers if they persist.

I rather like Gundy. He's a man, sticks to his guns / mullet, but he is not worth anywhere near north of 8m/year.

I believe Exile and others who said a deal was done.

Haslam pulled the pin to the grenade when he had nowhere else to go. Someone dove on it for us to be able to get Gundy but we lost Gruden in the process...casualty of war.

I believe the information they gave was honest, but my concern that no one would consider was always that this is the same group that tried in 2012 and failed... this makes them 0-2

I say put it to bed

Ok. Tell us what the fans can do right now to hire a good football coach. I’ll hang up and listen.

What we need to do is worrying about getting Currie FIRED and Blackburn HIRED. And if Haslam tries to prevent it tell him to stick it!!!!! The fans need to be more worried about the AD and the people running the show currently at this point.

The sad thing is put the pieces together. Currie was going Schiano all along, he didn't really pursue any other people. Then folks act like UT can't do no better, they aren't do no better because the top has never wanted a big name coach. They wanted someone they could control. Now with all the outside pressure they are trying to save face but nothing will change. People have to realize until we solve the true problem nothing is going to change. Time for fans to realize the cold hard truth if they ever want Tennessee to be relevent again.

Gundy will get in here and see behind he curtain. If nothing changes he's gone in 3 years

Let's suppose this deal gets done, then what? This does nothing more than quell some of the noise. Haslam and Scurry slap hands (or aces?) and continue on their destructive, rage-filled path.

The anecdotal paradigm is only shifted, not resolved.

Is Gundy a sound hire? Yes.

Are there even better options? Yes.

At this point do we have better options? Yes.

But, in the grand scheme, at the end of the day, the question is, regardless of the hire, can they win at Tennessee, and do they want to be here?

For whatever reason, I really do think Gundy can be successful and help Tennessee be great, again. My biggest question, does he really want it or is he just using it to bolster his worth at OSU? Not sure. But he will at least call out the press and take up for his players...and that is a trait I like and respect in a coach. So, I say what the hell, let's give him a chance and if he is up to the task, give him our support. Just my two-cents.

Think national media had a field day when we ran off Schiano? When we were going to offer him what, $4.5-5 million per year?

Imagine the field day they have when our backup plan after that is to get Gundy and double his salary to $8.4 million.

Massive joke played on the entire fanbase.

Again, not saying Gundy isn't a good coach. But doubling his salary? $8.4 million? That's a disaster.

I have to believe if kids bought into Butch they will for Gundy. Should be much easier here at UT especially if he can bring along some top level recruiters and a good defensive coordinator.

To heck with this administration. I am done until REAL change happens. If people try to make it happen the entire state would overwhelmingly support them. I hope people quit giving their money. Screw em.

While this is true, but to play devil's advocate, they are finally doing what we've always asked them to do.

Spend the money and get a top flight coach

Is Mike Gundy a top flight coach? It's debatable, but if it were to happen, we can't say " well crap they didn't get a big time winning coach"

Not saying I support Currie or Haslam, but I can't complain if we get something we wanted

It's like going to a BBQ. When you get there, all they have left is spaghetti. I mean I like spaghetti but.......

Sad that UT is reduced to being so desperate to throw ridiculous $$$ at any coach willing to listen. Whether the school rushes to overpay someone or gets turned down again the school looks like a joke. They need to slow the roll, regroup, and launch a proper coaching search with somebody other than Currie in charge. Whoever it is, I hope they can find success but frankly none of the names mentioned lately excite me.

Haslam and Currie have got to go.... Period. They are only trying to save face after they got their @$$ handed to them Sunday.

Once the dust clears they will be back to their old bull **** ways.

NO NO AND NO

and which one of Gundy's championship teams is your favorite ?

*crickets*

His 2011 Big 12 Championship team that beat a top 10 Oklahoma team 44-10, then beat a top 5 Stanford team in a BCS bowl, was extremely entertaining.

Now did you mean a national championship? Because we could get that, go offer Gene Chizik a contract and we can make your dreams come true.
