We will lose the leverage and momentum to achieve the long term goal. The HOH is willing to overpay for a tier 2 coach to get out of this mess. What's worse is that the fans will end up paying the bill in one way or another and the HOH keeps on rolling.

The fans are not going to flock to Neyland until Currie is gone and Haslam is no longer calling the shots. At least enough to hurt the bad. And they will deserve it!:rock:

I can’t csll it anything with grudens name so it will be called “Beavers Den”... best I could do. I’ll Roman numeral it and everything. Hate to see this party come to an end but it appears to be heading down that path. What say you?

Dave Doeren is a slap in the face. He’s 3rd on Currie’s list after #2 Jeff Brohm.

Could have probably got Petersen for $8 million. Chip Kelly would have had a hard time turning down $8. I'm not totally against the hire but it smacks of good ole Tennessee desperation.

IMHO, the backup plan that was not worked on enough was what to do if the King of the Hill had a much bigger moat to cross than what they thought !!

Yea, in trying to make all this make a little sense, I haven't figured out what the backup plan was.

Kelly turned down 6+ from UF. He simply does not want any part of the pressure of coaching in the SEC.

Sorry, that's not the angle I meant. More than I think Kelly is a SIGNIFICANT upgrade over Kelly. So paying the lesser valued one significantly more seems... hard to swallow.

Especially considering $4.66million in California is like $2 dollars and 38 cents compared to... $6-8 million in a land of no income tax

While this is true, but to play devil's advocate, they are finally doing what we've always asked them to do.

Spend the money and get a top flight coach

Is Mike Gundy a top flight coach? It's debatable, but if it were to happen, we can't say " well crap they didn't get a big time winning coach"

Not saying I support Currie or Haslam, but I can't complain if we get something we wanted

That certainly a good question. And it is important to remember that all this Gundy stuff is nothing but rumors at this point.

All the more reason to insist on firing Currie and cleaning house first, before hiring anyone.

I look at it this way, Les came from Oklahoma State without anywhere near the success of Gundy and look at what he did at LSU.

Gundy is their best coach ever, by far. The guy has went head to head with Mack Brown, Stoops, Harbaugh, Patterson, Snyder, Briles, etc and beat them all. He's faced more good coaches in the Big 12 than he will in the SEC East.
