If you want to track down Sexton's standard contract addendum and read it, you'll see several clauses that UT legal counsel finds highly objectionable. UT tries to strike them, Sexton refuses and negotiations become testy and stall. Unless, of course, UTAD panics and capitulates, which we have been known to do. Twice now. Luckily, we resisted a third.
Just because we/they had hope that this university might actually do something spectacular? So what if we were wrong? Did it somehow hurt you?
I like Tee. He's a good guy. Dooley was a fool not to hire him when Tee wanted to come home and had to settle for UK instead. Kiffin would have brought him here if he'd stayed. But now, the timing isn't right-- not for Tee or UT. Why burn the bridge?
It sets the fan base up for disappointment! Why can people not get that?
I think I can get Alexandria Daddario to date me. People lie to me and tell me she is into me and I believe them all.
Well I have to date someone and Alexandria never had any intention of dating me. No matter what girl I wind up with, even if she is hot, I am going to be disappointed and probably ruin it.
Part of being a successful athletic department is managing expectations. How did Currie and Bev think that keeping the Gruden buzz going was going to help them in their search? No one needed smokescreens around a Schiano hire. I haven't heard a single report that we were even competing with anyone for him. Sure, he may have turned down 2 jobs last year, but this year there was no smoke for him.
Had Currie come out and ended the Gruden rumors once he knew for sure it was done, he may have been able to salvage Schiano as a coach. It's fine to do some smokescreening when you know your actual hire is going to be exciting. However, if you know your hire will be a huge blow to a fan base with high expectations, you need to be as transparent as you can be, so that we, as fans, can rationalize how we ended up with Schiano when you promised something big, explosive, and expensive. Funny, that Currie is the one that ended up with something big, explosive, and expensive without even having a coach in place right now.
I think Brohm would take this job. He would bypass at least a rung or two on the coaching ladder immediately.
