Recruiting Forum Football Talk XLVII

After watching Willie in Oregon last week, I think he stays there a while. Seemed to enjoy it and seems to be building something.

That’s what we need.. someone who enjoys it and someone who really cares about Tennessee football. Not someone who talks about caring about it.

6. I think he would have been a tough fit. He has a reputation of being hard to deal with and plenty in the athletic department were nervous about him. But I'm sure he has changed. Schiano is a tough hard nosed guy, but I don't think he's a bad coach.

This??

Yeah. I guess we just see it differently.

It’s really confusing how they are interpreting his responses as carrying water. I’m just dumbfounded.

I think people are looking for blood. They want him to come out and say Halsam forced this hire on Currie and Currie simply did what he was told. They think because he doesn't say the name "Haslam" he's carrying the water.

Currie needs to be open and honest with where we are going. This cloak and mirror crap makes it worse. You say who is and isn't your targets and go get them.

Pruitt would be fine.

The simple decision is to give the damn job to the last QB to win an SEC championship here and let him go to work on the recruiting trail. It really is very easy.

Smh you can’t be serious.

Edit: never mind. My bad. Was thinking about Peyton. I think Tee is a last resort but we could do worse.

How is Hubbs carrying water? Are you guys reading the same post I am?

Agreed. Hubbs is being real—has been this whole time. But haters are out in force on VN. Hubbs sounds too much like me blaming some of this on Grudenmania.

Hyams said this morning he thinks it was because we didn’t hire Gruden.... 🙄 yeah that’s it Jimmy, never mind the fact that a lot of the people that were up in arms about it didn’t even like Gruden. Oh but keep pushing that narrative that we were just pitching a fit.

You would think all of the local media would defend the fanbase more.

All in all, local media have been a lot more supportive than I thought. Hyams is a Haslam guy, though.

Wasn't Hyams critical of the potential hire of Schiano also? So, we are just pitching a fit but Hyams thinks he's a bad fit for the right reasons?

he was 7-5

taggart would kill it here but prob wont listen now. Plus chip kelly at UCLA, Stanford, Washington and USC arent gonna let him "build something" IMO.

I like the idea of Tee and a VFL staff and all that jazz, but I think there's a pretty good chance he would be a disaster. Just doesn't seem ready for a job of this magnitude. Watch any recent interview/press conference with him. Plus, he only has two seasons as an OC.

Would rather have JBC.

Question. Knowing what we at least think we know now (that Haslam is just running the show and doesn't care about a top quality coach). How much do you think we would REALLY be willing to pay a coach to come here?

Not some of the other boosters, whom it appears would be willing to spend over $10m for Gruden. I mean with Haslam calling the shots.

I would say $7m, tops.

Maybe I'm not as smart as the guys leading the AD (though maybe I am after yesterday) but if we're going to turn to the unproven coordinator why not try and lure Venables or Foster away?

I guess my question is why would those guys decide to jump for this job right now? When they can have a power 5 job whenever they want it. If you were in their shoes, would you take the chance?

Tee Martin cares about the University and will work his ass off to get it back to the Tennessee standard. He will bring in a GREAT staff. He has contacts all over the country and will likely bring some USC guys with him. Not to mention the former Vols who will beg for the chance to help him change the culture here.

We would have the top recruiting classes in the SEC if we hired him. There is no doubt in my mind. He's been a great recruited at Kentucky and USC. Imagine him selling his home! It would be incredible. Walking into kids homes with that national championship ring on as a young charismatic African American coach would be unbeatable.

Bring Tee home. Period.

If Schiano is the best thing since sliced bread who were the other schools clambering for his services?

Then if what Tennessee fans did was so wrong when is one of these enlightened schools going to snag him up?
