Recruiting Forum Football Talk XLVII

I imagine Ergen could get together a few other huge boosters and pull support, he was probably led to believe Currie would hear the drumbeat of war and could not imagine he could be this stupid, like the rest of us. If the anti Haslam faction doesn’t align quickly now there is truly no hope

This smells to me exactly like the AD hire. Got all, the power players opinion, acted like their opinion counted and they were attempting execute their wishes (Blackburn/Fulmer), slip Currie in the back door.

Too Early is the worst excuse for not pulling the trigger on someone. It’s how you get left behind in any industry. You have a good idea or potential employee... you give then a shot.

It's a little more than a "rumor". A man stated under sworn oath that Schiano knew about that stuff.

Well, I believe a man stated that he heard that somebody else had heard 20 years ago that Schiano was aware.

And everybody else involved in that line of hearsay denied all of it.

Current staffers and players threatened to walk out if Schiano was the hire.

Good for them.

The National media writers can ead.

They don’t understand how important our program is to the local economy. They talk down about Tennessee people because they think they’re better than us.

Responding to a lot of posts all at once here...

The talk about not wanting him regardless of the PSU stuff is exactly the problem here. (And I agree, I didn’t want him either.) Danny K is catching heat here (surprise), but I don’t know that he’s that wrong, truthfully — the PSU rumor about Schiano knowing about Sandusky was a convenient reason to torpedo the hire. The PSU stuff lacks credibility, and that plus the fact that people see our fan base as expecting to get Gruden (i.e. sky-high expectations) will make them question why we revolted against the hire.

Especially coming after the Cuonzo petition (which I didn’t sign but didn’t mind either), we just nuked ourselves, Missouri-style. And now people are clamoring to hire Tee, just like Missouri ran to Barry Odom.

Whoever the next coach is, I am pleading with Vol Nation to be patient. It may be very slow progress getting back to the top, but doing what we are doing (turning on Butch when he was making progress) isn’t going to work. There isn’t a Saban we can go hire. We are going to have to scratch and claw out of this mess.

The PSU stuff doesn't lack credibility. People were jailed using McQuery testimony.

It isn't the only character flaw used as reasoning. Look at past player accounts of him as coach, Josh Freeman files released, ordering the DL to dive at the knees of the OL while they are in the V formation, twice! There are plenty of reasons, without the PSU situation, that his character is questionable at best.

That's not even mentioning his bad to average coaching credentials.

drylo, I'm not sure what you gain by being a contrarian and trying to constantly put down the people in here or the fanbase, but I can't imagine it's a tangible benefit.

The whole Schiano is ok because he and Bradley denied it through lawyers is stupid. What else they going to say? They knew they weren't being called to stand so they deny it. No repercussions.

And anyone blaming TN fans can gtfo. It's Currie and haslams fault. Choose anyone else and nowhere near today's backlash

I'm glad that Schiano won't be our next coach, but we are screwed and Currie gets all the blame. The national folks are correct that there aren't many (any?) proven winners that would touch this job now. So we are either going to have to call a former Vol back home or take a gamble on an "up and comer," neither of which are likely to result in a high level of success.

I'm glad that we were able to sabotage the Schiano hire; but the fact that Currie put us in a position to take such extreme action means that we are going to be a mid- to lower-tier SEC football time for a while longer.

Evidently this is the owner of the Casual Pint here in Knoxville. I believe he should probably look to closing up and leaving town.
