Grant Williams is ..............

I would take Ernie and Bernie over any I have seen at Tennessee. Williams is the best player on this squad at this time. He has moments of greatness, but slips back to just a good player. If he continues to improve, he may not be around for his senior year.

I love Grant Williams as much as the next guy, but no way does this happen.

Williams is a PF. The average height of a PF in the NBA is 6'9.4". SF is 6'7.7". SG is 6'5.3".

Williams is listed at 6'5". So if by "continues to improve" you mean becomes much faster, develops great ball handling skills, and becomes a dead eye shooter, then he MAAAAAAY be able to sneak in as a small forward. But right now his game is almost entirely back to the basket hooks and layups with some turnaround jumpers. His 3-ball is better than last year but has a lot of room for improvement. And that's just on offense. I don't see him being able to play defense on much quicker, slimmer SF in the NBA. He just doesn't have the speed for it. He does a good job defending taller PF in college, but I don't see it translating to the next level.

All that being said, I think GW is going to be a really great college player when it's all said and done. He's just genetically restricted at the next level. If he were 4 inches taller I'd say he'd for sure get picked.

1. He’s listed at 6’7” and he is every bit of 6’7 as I’ve seen him in cookout and I’m 6’6.

2. The average height is an average, 50% are taller, 50% are shorter.

3. He has a massive wingspan. 6’11 I believe.

That being said, I don’t know if he makes it to the next level or not. But if he improves next year as he has over the past year, he will have a shot.

Let's finish this sentence.

"Grant Williams is the best all around player we have had in my memory. "

My memory goes back to the late 80s but I can't Remember any player that had the combination of passing, rebounding, shot blocking, ball handling and scoring ability that he has.

Today Williams was brilliant with his passing to the open man and knowing when to push and when to slow it down when he broke the press.

Simply put I wouldn't trade him for any single player we have had in 30 years.

Don't know if he is as good as Nix, who would fit into that time frame, but he is a player and one tough SOB.

Of course we had a guy named Bernard King once upon a time who is arguably the best player EVER in the SEC. Dale Ellis is second best ever

I remember nix but King and Ellis weren't in the timeframe I wrote about in the OP.

His 247 recruiting profile listed him as 6'7". Rivals and his updated/current official ut sports page has him at 6'5". Either way, if you're going to be shorter than average, you need to be able to defend guys at your position, and I don't see him being able to defend the three point line against guys like Durant and carmello, or even someone like dirk who are 2-6 inches taller than him. Especially as the NBA across the board has gone more perimeter oriented.

Also, everyone in the NBA has a huge wingspan.

I was watching him the other day and the 1st person that popped in my mind was Clarence Weatherspoon. I played against him in some summer leagues back in the day and he was unstoppable. Grant could have the same trajectory if his mid range game improves.

The roster page for this year has him listed at 6'7" on utsports. But I understand your point, but I think that their are plenty of 6'7" SFs. He definitely has the skill-set for the 3.

Weird, this is the link I was looking at (which is actually from last year) University of Tennessee Athletics

Whether he's 6'5 or 6'7, either way I dont think he's shown the speed or the shooting to play sf in the nba, and I think he'd be a defensive liability on the wing. I'd love to be wrong but I just don't see it.

Dallas would shut him down.

Grant Willians is......Bonzie Colson.

Watching the MSU/ND game and definitely remind me of Grant, Bonzie is 6’5” but a 6’11” wingspan, think that’s very similar to Grant. Hopefully Grant follows the career trend of Colson, he’s a 20&10 a night guy, also great leader on the floor for his squad

Thought this was a good bump time.

I swear it wouldn't trade him for anyone.

Let's try this again: Grant Williams' 37 points are the most by a Vol on the road since Allan Houston scored 37 at Oregon State on Dec. 22, 1990.
