I am starting to get the sinking feeling that things are only going to get worse...much, much worse. I feel like our fanbase’s explosion today is going to be shot back at us in full force by national media and everyone else.

Well, at least /sp/ seems to mostly be on our side.

It's my opinion that this was a faux search from the beginning. I didn't see it while it was happening as some others did but I've come to that conclusion now. Thamel gave it up when he wrote in his original "Schiano is hired" piece when he said that Currie kept in regular contact with Schiano when he was at KSU.

I don't think the Gruden offer ever happened, I think Mullen was interested but we never met, I think Campbell wanted the job but Currie went into those negotiations knowing he wouldn't budge on the buyout - just so he'd have justification for hiring the guy he wanted.

I agree. We were all taken for a ride.

It was a rumor he had heard from another guy who said he heard a rumor Schiano might have known something. DA investigated and found no credible information to move forward.

The incidents, like Bruin said, were years after Schiano was a coach at Penn State.

None of that is reasonable to believe he covered anything up or had knowledge of anything at all.

I’m not trying to get in a fight with anyone or try and say we should have hired him because we shouldn’t have. Twitter mob mentality just irks me and I dont like it one bit.

It's very very unlikely that Sandusky started his behavior in 1998 and was totally clean before then. It's very fair for people to suspect that Schiano knew about his boss' behavior. It's not fair at all to accuse him and pronounce him guilty because of this two circumstantial reasons.

Still shaking my head at the Grudenites. Take a lap, all of you. We should have spent the last two weeks discussing real candidates.

People on a message board discussing Gruden had absolutely NOTHING to do with Currie's failure.

Unpopular opinion forthcoming.

I do not nor did not at anytime want Greg Schiano as our football coach. That is because of on and off field things that I have serious concerns about. I don’t believe him to be a fit or someone I want representing the University of Tennessee.

That being said, the way his name and character over the Penn State stuff have been portrayed today is not right. Those people who jump on other people for not immediately calling Schiano someone who “covers up child rape” or “enables sexual predators” is wrong and shameful. It’s the world we live in today though. We hear something and just run with it.

Reading up on stuff the last hour or so, I don’t believe Schiano had any knowledge and was not even at Penn State at the time these horrendous things were going on. I don’t think any reasonable person would think different, either. It’s just not logical when presented with the facts and knowledge surrounding the case.

Hate Schiano because he’s not a good enough football coach to represent our university. Hate him because he’s a douchebag to his players. Hate him because he’s an apparent egomaniac that rubs people the wrong way. But hating him over the Penn State stuff and saying he enables child molesters is bull**** though. It’s just not reasonable to believe. It’s the “twitter mob” mentality we have as a society today and it’s wrong. No one deserves that.

Rant over. Flame away (and probably now call me a supporter of child molestation for whatever reason)

I think this is a reasonable take.

I agree with Jave, he may be completely innocent of those allegations, but if there is even a 1% chance that he knew anything you just can’t go there. Honestly, just the fact that he has been accused of it means he isn’t hireable as a HC.

I blame currie/haslam for being tone deaf and oblivious and putting us in this situation

I actually have a tinge of guilt over this even though I didn’t tweet or call anyone, just posted my displeasure on here.

Maybe I’m reading that wrong, but I read that as they met in 1994 and then “after a couple year in the program” the assaults started to happen. Meaning after Schiano was gone?

I’m not trying to paint the guy innocent if he wasn’t, I’m just learning more about this whole thing and the timeline.

Edit: also it says he was touched during car rides and “after workouts”. Would those have been at Sandusky’s house or at the school? I really don’t know where those incidents would have taken place

Whether you believe he’s innocent or not, you don’t KNOW he is and it was a terrible idea to try and hire him.

Again we went on record and said “no search firm.” And on record talking about integrity. This guy was untouchable as a head coach for us and Currie should have known better. It was a terrible hire and the guy wasn’t worth the baggage he would bring.

Spare me the crap about the fan base. We shouldn’t have been put in this spot. We were about to hire on the cheap again and one that would come with heavy scrutiny. Not to mention there are articles everywhere about this guys reputation.

Dilly effin dilly

I was looking forward to saying I told you so when Petersen or Mullen or Frost was announced, but I don't even have the heart now. I bought in and was taken for a fool just as much as you did, just not over a specific candidate. We were all fooled by these insiders to believe that we would get a big name, just manifested in different ways.

I'm with you, man. I bought into the hype just like everyone else.

We fired Pearl and we're going to hire Schiano. Wow.

Sorry for buying the Grumors and pushing it so hard here guys. My bad. All of this sucks. Still can’t believe what has unfolded today. Hopefully it works out in the end.

:hi:

Yeah, and I kept posting Gruden was a pipe dream and he wasnt coming here until Mr. Big threatened me with the ignore...........well how is it going now...check my stats

I've repeatedly said my source has given me zero information. Don't know whether he's just not sharing or if he legitimately doesn't know anything. The only piece of info he shared early on, right after the GA game, was when I asked him if Gruden or another major hire would occur. His response, "If Big Jim will get out of the way." Well it's painfully obvious Big Jim didn't get out of the way.

Unfortunately, Haslam isn't the only big booster that didn't want Gruden. Win or lose, Gurden would have been great for our program. Getting someone of his caliber would have shown the nation that we are a top program. He would have recruited well and stabilized everything at the very least. I think he would have been successful.

Haslam hires these pigeons to do his handy work. He owns the BOT. He has these morons do his bidding and when things go south, he just gets them fired and does it all over again. He has all that insulation which prevents any of the fallout from coming back on him.

Giving him the double Gaulden the next time I see him.

Nobody will take this job. This is a disaster the magnitude of which cannot be overstated.

What difference would that have made? The only "real" candidate was Schiano.

always swinging low... I really don't think you are a UT fan ...

Campbell- pay the stupid buyout
Frost- wait till the season ends and then throw stupid money.

They would not want to come now with how unstable the program is especially in the AD

The NBC article from last year posted above is pretty clear he knew. The words used in their quote from a source in the coaches room that day was what Schiano was reported to have said in the McQueary testimony.

Our resident attorneys can clarify, but there is a pre-trial negotiation in the discovery process that occurs with the judge as to what is allowed into evidence. So the linchpin was apparently Bradley since he originally confided to McQueary with Schiano making the actual statement. Bradley may not have cooperated, probably to keep other coaches from being implicated along with his own tail, so the testimony with McQueary had to be modified, but was allowed in under a hearsay scenario.

Nasty stuff. Should not have ever tried to hire that guy.

I honestly think the best thing for this university..
Fulmer as HC
Chavis DC (now available)
Randy Sanders OC (soon to be fired)
Dan brooks DL (retired in seveirville)

And then fill in the rest. Ride that and stabilize the program for 3-5 years.

Do it. Seriously. That staff (1) could coach and (2) has gravitas that any other staff we could hire right now wouldn’t.

oh my God y'all. today has been insane. I am so ****ing proud of this fanbase. we set the tree up today and I left the Tennessee ornaments in the box because I was ready to call it quits on this university. I was sad all day. Not for me. But for the incredible people that I have met and spoken with here, at games and throughout the world. The people of Tennessee are a different breed. Morals come first. Honesty, integrity and loving by the word of God are pivotal, not just in theory, but embedded in the culture of east Tennessee. I am appalled by the AD but damn proud of this fanbase, the local media and people of east Tennessee.

Love you too man and all of you MORANS. My son was talking about how we were going to have to paint the orange T in Touchdown on our wall white and either cover or change all things UT. I had to explain first in very G rated details what the issue was. He understood and just shook his head at the horror of UT allowing such a thing. We talked about just going to UT games as this unfolded. I sent emails and text and contacted reps and doing what was necessary to pull away from UT forever. Then this glorious fanbase stood up and said NO! HECK NO! I still can't believe in this world of mega money sports that somehow as fans, we made a difference today. Taught a lesson to my son today that being moral and right is more than winning ball games. Love each and everyone of you guys for your part in hopefully keeping our dreams and love for UT alive.

A part of me says BS? Where were the protesters, Twitter outrage for the bush money spent on title 9 events.

Ask yourself, if Gruden, Saban has been mentioned in that article but not found guilty would there have been an outrage?

protesting a crappy coach with a bad reputation--Not only the Penn State stuff, but with former players. We had been discussing it previously--we'd take anyone even Kiffin, but not this guy.

After Kiffin, Dooley and Butch, the fans showed how big and explosive they were-- and it may get expensive, due to the malpractice..
