I find it impossibly believable that UT would explicitly structure a contract, wherein Tee (or any coach, for that matter) would be penciled in as - In Waiting. Anyone who follows CFB understands the dynamics involved. Each season presents a different challenge with recruiting, internal and external demands, funding, available options, etc.
I have been clear about my thoughts on Tee before, and I don't understand the drool fest. I appreciate his time as a player, but he is unproven in being a solid position coach and coordinator, much less a head coach (in-waiting or otherwise).
I want "orange blood" throughout our great university, but I also want the best option available over having the same blood type. I look at the VFLs as being culturally competent, the ones who know what it means to be a Vol, and are willing to take all necessary steps to hold themselves and their players to that standard. I would take a VFL in every available position, hands down, but only if they are deserving of it. Just as an example, and I'm not picking, but we can do better than Tee for any position he may be in the running for.
So...
It's quiet...
We're in the quiet period...
There's really no news expected, not even leaks, until we're within about 6-18 hours prior to the press conference where the announcement is made...
Wanna talk about football? Daniella? Turkeys falling from helicopters at terminal velocity and whether they'd live through the drop?
If a firm owns one skybox on the West side, and one (or more) on the East side, they may use "the west skybox" as convenient shorthand.
You get to say "the mailbox" when talking to a family member, even though there are a ton of mailboxes on your street. Right?
It wouldn't be in the contract. My understanding is it wasn't in Muschamp's at Texas under Mack Brown either.
I don't recall anything about a snag. Do you remember the context?
Exactly, and this is the dude represented by the coding:
Todd Bateman is the assistant director of campaigns for the Tennessee Fund.
Hes directly responsible for identifying and securing major gifts in support of UT Athletics.
I don't believe an "in waiting" clause is the hold up.
However, I believe it is due to timing and Gruden securing his staff.
