Official Gruden Thread 38

I find it impossibly believable that UT would explicitly structure a contract, wherein Tee (or any coach, for that matter) would be penciled in as - In Waiting. Anyone who follows CFB understands the dynamics involved. Each season presents a different challenge with recruiting, internal and external demands, funding, available options, etc.

I have been clear about my thoughts on Tee before, and I don't understand the drool fest. I appreciate his time as a player, but he is unproven in being a solid position coach and coordinator, much less a head coach (in-waiting or otherwise).

I want "orange blood" throughout our great university, but I also want the best option available over having the same blood type. I look at the VFLs as being culturally competent, the ones who know what it means to be a Vol, and are willing to take all necessary steps to hold themselves and their players to that standard. I would take a VFL in every available position, hands down, but only if they are deserving of it. Just as an example, and I'm not picking, but we can do better than Tee for any position he may be in the running for.

It wouldn't be in the contract. My understanding is it wasn't in Muschamp's at Texas under Mack Brown either.

So...

It's quiet...

We're in the quiet period...

There's really no news expected, not even leaks, until we're within about 6-18 hours prior to the press conference where the announcement is made...

Wanna talk about football? Daniella? Turkeys falling from helicopters at terminal velocity and whether they'd live through the drop?

My vote FWIW:

Just for fun, I popped into Reddit.

Gruden will announce he is taking the Ravens job and Harbaugh to Tennessee.

Rumors are fascinating.

They are currently trying to come up with a name for these rumors.

My favorite of the bunch: rumbaughs

Harbuzz a close second.

If a firm owns one skybox on the West side, and one (or more) on the East side, they may use "the west skybox" as convenient shorthand.

You get to say "the mailbox" when talking to a family member, even though there are a ton of mailboxes on your street. Right?

Exactly, and this is the dude represented by the coding:
Todd Bateman is the assistant director of campaigns for the Tennessee Fund.
“He’s directly responsible for identifying and securing major gifts in support of UT Athletics.”

So, if that's Tee's goal, he's willing to take their word at face value?

Seriously? Listen to what some of y'all are saying! Geez.

Why not just hire Tee if we are so hellbent on having orange blood. I mean you could argue that he is just as suited or more familiar with recruiting, college football and the structures with in as Gruden or anyone. If we are worried about him being tutored by a head coach for a number of years make Phil an associate head coach in charge of football operations. JUST as believable as any other claim...

I don't recall anything about a snag. Do you remember the context?

It was a little while back....like Mon.or Tues. when the buzz was about Currie flying to Tampa. I basicly just checked AV's stats and saw it. I'd be lyin' though cause it could just as easily been a poster "orange pill." But I can go back and check to see if it were indeed AV. Just look for an edit to this post. The way I took it was it wouldn't impact the signing but could delay the announcement. Hopefully I can find it soon.

AV hasn't posted much so it was easy to dismiss him. I checked "orange pill" #2735 pg.183 Gruden thread 34. The delay or "snag" seems to be centered around putting a staff together and I think it's the DC position.

Also interesting was the removal of a lot of orange pill's posts in thread #37. Just a lot of unexplainable things going on concerning the Gruden hire. Seems like some folks at the top don't want others talking. Especially if there's some truth to what's being said.

I know Todd, he’s a good guy and isn’t in the know more than anyone else in the AD besides Currie

I don't believe an "in waiting" clause is the hold up.

However, I believe it is due to timing and Gruden securing his staff.

I’d be more worried about securing players than coaches if it were me or John Currie... he knows what great recruiting can do, make the hire and stop Gruden from dragging the AD around
