Official Gruden Thread 38

I think at some point it becomes bad. I compare it to a proposal. The longer you think about it the more the proposer feels unwanted. May be a bad analogy but what will vol fans think of JG if he continues to let this go unanswered and it comes out that we offered everything and he still said no. He loves the attention now because it’s good. That may not be the case if this turns out bad.

Agree.

I understand all of that but don't we have to hope for more than Norvell?

I never want 'this is the best I can get.'

Absolutely and I’d hate a Norvell hire but if he was invested in UT and is willing to put his all into the job and not worried about this being the highest paying job in CFB, perfect circumstances and getting his absolute way, I’d rather that than appeasing a has been that in all reality we are hoping he can get it done

You're going to take your Scooter and you're gonna like it

I had the scooter..we were more gobot than transformer growing up.

Wait a minute?

I thought Currie said we’d have a new HC by the end of this November?

Doug Mathews recently said that Currie has told recruits he’d hire a new HC around December 10th.

Is that a sign we missed out on Gruden or is Doug Mathews just misinformed?

Watching this thread when I can I must admit can be pretty entertaining. Trying to catch up on a flight as we speak. Couple of bullet points to keep some folks that have really bad information in check here...and that’s really all I can do at this point again have to protect the university, the process, and my relationship with it. Everyone will know when we have a new hire...

1. Gruden was not at Calhouns yesterday.
2. Currie primarily flies commercial on UT business..guy is a hustler and should be respected for that.
3. No need to ever track wheels up planes those are not being used for UT business
4. The vast majority of meetings are NOT happening in any location that would “make sense” (Ie, Knoxville etc)
5. Great lengths have been gone into keeping the tail numbers etc that are being used different from ones that have really ever been posted in here before. Take into account my company alone has 5 planes now that may or may not be used all of which none of those tails are known...so imagine how many others are out there. Additionally usually the registration of said planes are done with essentially phony LLC’s in states other than where the planes are used or kept that have no connection to anything that could ever get traced back to an individual.
6. There is a sense of urgency to get this done as quickly as possible but you can’t force someone’s hand purely with $$$. If it were that easy we would have someone already.

I hope everyone who was able to go to game yesterday enjoyed the experience as much as possible. I was bummed that the weather sucked....first time in box for entire game for me in a long time.

I am around a bit today relaxing preparing to turn and burn for the holiday week...I wish each and everyone of you and your families a wonderful thanksgiving holiday. Take time to hug your wife, kids, and parents if they are still around. That’s what its all about.

Thanks for everything you do for people. You’re a real class act. :)

Not really' Currie has 7 days to find a coach, otherwise each passing day hurts UT and UT recruiting. No sense of firing Butch early if not going to hire a guy on the first available date. 7 days and this is over and no one can name the top 3 concensus candidates.

Based off media, kicked the tires on Gruden, Patterson, and Frost.

Is this the order?
Gruden
Patterson
Frost

Who is #4 in your opinion?
Gundy? He might get fired.

I agree. After next Saturday there will be a lot more competition. Right now it's just UT and UF. We need to lock someone down ASAP and I hope that person is Gruden, but if not it could make the next man up way more difficult to lock down quickly.

That's not what I'm saying. We can get good coaches that want to be here, just not the names we want (Gruden, Patterson, etc).

If you get a coach that doesn't wanna be here but is here cause you threw boat loads of cash at them, chances are they are not going to do the best job possible.

A Gruden who is not happy here might not be as good as a Mullen or Frost who love being here.

I get that, but I see Mullen's record and I don't get the love for him.

I would rather keep Hoke on an interim basis indefinitely and keep aiming high rather than settling in the lower-to middle tier.

If we get lesser-than, than the pundits that have dogged on Tennessee not being a quality job are proven right and we continue touring on the laughingstock circuit for years to come.

I've become numbed by the process but will continue to believe it's Gruden until forced to accept a different reality. I will also give the benefit of doubt to the people involved in the process and assume that this could not have been handled in a better way. The hole that the program is currently in seems to be getting darker and deeper with each passing day, and I'm worried that we may be allowing ourselves to go beyond the point of no return. I desperately need some good news but think I may be looking in the wrong place.

True, same could be said for Gruden, if he fails, where does Tn turn?

SEC you seem like a pretty good person and I have seen you on here for a while. Question: If I am not mistaken, you are a dawg and have said we have no chance at getting Gruden. So why are you in the Gruden thread?

Anybody that took the time to use common sense could tell that wasn't gruden at calhouns yesterday..Sum people just take stuff and run with it.

Common sense would tell you he isn’t going to a public restaurant across from the stadium with Peyton of all people on game day and then tell people to keep it quite. That is some serious fairy tale stuff.

No signal just wanted to get somethings out there to help people save their gas money trying to drive out to Tac Air to catch a glimpse of something....

There is a clear plan and a clear plan beyond that first plan all of which I am comfortable with...all won’t be but we know what they say about opinions.

I love this guy. Does anyone have decipher software to help with last paragraph...is that plan 1b or plan b..

And if that really was Sexton at the table with Peyton yesterday as some have surmised, then fork it. Lost to the abyss for at least 5-10 more years.

Who’s Frost’s agent? Did anyone catch Currie’s Nebraska reference on the pre-game interview? Kessling specifically asked him about the coaching search. He went on to say they were blessed with a great team committed to hiring a great coach, then said there were several SEC positions going to be open and then said Nebraska had an opening, backtracked a little and said well probably would have an opening, didn’t know for sure.

My heart stopped for a second. Sounded like he was hinting at Frost.

Agree to disagree. As I stated, I never want someone who is failing upward because we couldn't get anyone else. That's just me, I know. I'm a prickly turd this morning. I recognize this. Sorry to all.

I agree. But it seems over the last 3 days, it's been really bad! I expect more "insiders" to backtrack throughout the day

I’m not calling anybody out, and I’m all for Gruden 100%. However, I would like to hear from the insiders who have said that the deal has been done, and that we are just waiting on the timing of the announcement.

It's crazy how fast this thread can go from getting good info from seemingly the most connected individual (AV), to back to questioning everything and wanting things done NOW. Obviously, things are still in the works and nothing can be put to bed yet. I am confident great things are coming at this point.
