Urban Meyer to Ohio State played out exactly like this. And almost to the day. On November 17, 2011, an Ohio State website reported that Urban Meyer had signed a contract to be the next head coach of Ohio State. The next day the Ohio State athletic department and Urban Meyer deny the reports. Nothing is said for 2 weeks then Urban Meyer is introduced as the new Ohio State football coach.

If last night was real. And we have no reason to believe it wasn't. You had several trusted people like LWS saying it was a done deal and he said yes. Then you had VFLs openly rejoicing on Twitter. You should have expected hearing today some saying he said no. That's the only way to quiet the reports that he signed the contract Wednesday night.

Just look at every other big hire. This is how they've played out. An early report leaks it's a done deal. Major players deny. Then a short while later there is a formal presentation. If Tennessee is gonna wait until 11/26 at the earliest to announce a new football coach then what yoh heard yesterday trying to walk back the good news from Wednesday should be expected.

Sorry for if I'm pages behind but is this true? Did Larry say it was a done deal?

IIRC, we knew Strong was the guy in 2012 for a week or so before the regular season ended. He ultimately turned it down, of course, but we knew the inner workings.

Misleading title. Sorry guys.

Some guy called in to a radio show saying his mom is on Chancellor committee, and she told them UT used 3 planes to trick everyone to go see Gruden and everyone should be excited about the outcome of that meeting. Could just be some troll, sounded like a college kid that would get a kick out of being in the radio

We have entered a 10+ day disinformation phase.

Nah. He was on this pretty early. He knows. He's just getting fed misinformation right now.

Remember he never said it was a done deal Wednesday night when many others said so. If those reports were true then him hearing from people it's not happening Thursday night makes sense if they wanna quiet the noise over the next 10 days before an official announcement is made.

Like I said earlier, if an official announcement can't be made during the football season, then even if Gruden is signed, they would need to quiet the noise for the next 10 days before an official announcement can be made. How else can you quiet this euphoria than by saying the deal is dead.

The reports last night saying he said no should be expected if the reports he said yes Wednesday night are true. One requires the other.

If it's a done deal, you announce it. Need all the recruiting help we can get before signing day just over a month from now.

Here is the problem I have with all of this. Everyone ( except Hyamms) could be right. Gruden could have signed an MOU , changed his mind and said no, then got a visit Wednesday night and changed his mind and agreed, then changed his mind again after they all left and said No. I’m not saying 5hat is what happened but it is within the realm of possibility.

In the end we are all grasping at “insiders” information and I guarantee at least half the “insiders” are making up what they are saying.

We may not ever know exact that is happening even if he eventually stands at the podium and is our guy.
