We have one title In the last 50 years so “winning”” big” is on the back burner for me right now. i will be estatic with just being in the Hunt.

Competitive with everyone every year, getting to SEC championship game every 3-4 years, get back to dominating Vandy, Ky, SCe etc. that's the expectation I have. Would take a monumental hire to compete with Saban consistently right now.

You guys honestly think a Super Bowl winning coach who hosts MNF is in this for attention... He could get any NFL job he wants when it opens. New York, LA, Philly, anywhere, and you guys think he is talking to us because some boosters in Knoxville are giving him the attention he wants? What if he is actually mulling over a major life decision?

Yes, I do

Attention seekers like attention from any source. He’s a rockstar in Knoxville. Those other places are so big they couldn’t care less.

IMO, Mullen would want to bring his staff and give them huge pay bumps, similar to CBJ. I like Mullen and think he's near the top of our board... but at what price? Is he worth $6M... $6.5M... plus a hefty price tag for staff? Is Mullen really an above-market hire? And how much above-market would UT be willing to go?

If we’re winning 10 games a year, which i think we would be with a few candidates, then he’s. We will make that up in seats, revenue, etc in minutes.

The days of dominating South Carolina are over. That’s a legit top 30 program now.

2013 Roster:

QB’s: Worley, Peterman, Dobbs(B), Ferguson(B)
RB’s: Neal, Lane, Pickett, Hill, Smith
WR’s: Harris(B), Pig, Jenkins(B), Bowles, North(B) Croom, Young, Smith(B), Johnson, Blanc, Carter
TE: Stocstill, Branisel(B), Downs, Quinn(B), Ellis
OL: Crowder, Sanders(B), Kendrick(B), Stone, Pair, James, Wiesman(B), Fulton, Richardson, Jackson, Kerbyson, Bullard (Best Group by far)

DL: Lewis, Vickers(B), Couch, Vereen (B), Williams, Smith, Maggitt, Walls, Carson, Corey Miller, Jaylen Miller(B), Brown(B), Clark, Carr(B), O’Brien, Saulsberry, Hood, McCullers
LB: Brewer, Reeves-Maybin(B), Justin King, Crump, Sapp, Johnson, Greg King, Propst, Bynum, Harris
DB: Moore, Swafford(B), Jones(B), Foreman(B), Sutton(B), Orta, Coleman, Johnson(B), Thomas, McNeil, Toney, Randolph

The (B) represents guys that were in the 2013 class that was thrown together last minute. The biggest thing that stands out to me, is that the new coach should have a much better class to try and put together late.

Hired in December (late) and Dooley’s cobbled together class needed a lot of patching. Herman’s first for Texas was similarly ranked. Basically had a little over a month and flipped Dobbs and landed North. Had to rerecruit Sutton because Auburn almost flipped him. Stands out to me that this is one of your less impressive takes. :good!:

The fact that most of you all have forgotten what Mississippi State has always been is proof of how elite a coach Dan Mullen is. He's changed the perception of the school so much that you all are faulting him for MSU not winning what has been the best division in football for the last 7 or 8 years.

all I know is don't hire a HC whose only specialty is WR/ST. Our last 2 HCs Dooley and Butch are best at WR and ST. No real coordinator experience/success. This making them so dependent of their hires on both sides of the ball. Get someone that specializes in QBs or Defense. That tends to be the most successful coaches.

John Harbaugh.

Bingo.

Remember when Sly Croom was the grim reeper of coaches. Lose to him and you’re done.

I’ve never heard of it. Seems weird and doubt that Gruden would buy a $4m home to be closer to his son for a couple years.

I think it is very strange for parents to follow their child to college. What do they do if their kids go to different schools? Play favorites? How can you let them learn to be independent if you follow them?

Not dominating them to the level of how we should Vandy and Ky, but a top 10-15 program should still be relatively dominant against them.

South Carolina should always be solid now. They have the facilities and the recruiting base. That’s all i was saying.

Mullen has proven that he can identify and hire quality assistants, he just couldn't always afford to keep them at MSU when bigger programs came calling. See Geoff Collins and Manny Diaz.

Let me try again. The roster he inherited was bad. The recruiting class he inherited was bad, but he did a good job adding talent to it late. I’m saying the next coach will inherit a better roster AND a better recruiting class to add to late. I’m not sure how you took my post as a shot at Butch.
