The thing is, once potential assistants are being contacted, we are looking at the dam bursting with the info chain. As I mentioned the other night, once one knows, the whole world knows.

If (IF for those reading impaired) an MOU was signed, Gruden is in pocket and he's searching for a staff, there is no way the AD can keep a lid on it. Right now, if things are as we suspect, everything is compartmentalized into the AD and Gruden camp. But once that spills over into a new staff? It's entirely out of their control and someone will talk and info will get out there. Intentional or accidental, that kind of thing has to propensity to blow the lid off any boom that might occur.

If things start leaking you start a fient, misdirection, misinformation campaign..something like

Mullen is interested
Gruden to TB Bucs
No way Gruden is coming (Wes Rucker)
Etc
Etc
Etc

If there is any truth to the rumor of Butch lobbying to keep his job, I don't know what to say about that.

All I know is that if I went to work everyday with people standing outside with 'FIRE TASTYCAR' signs, I don't think I would be keen to stay at that job.

Very true. And if they took away your big boy jet on top of that. Next step is to move your office into the basement

Speaking of Sand Mountain, @ Preacher you might be interested in a book..."Salvation on Sand Mountain" very interesting read regarding a reporter following a snake-handling church and an associated court case. The story makes reference to Newport. It is a very interesting story based on actual events and people.

Very good!

I know Taggart got into some hot water last year when Oregon hired him, but I can't remember what it was.

Off to Google again...

Grude or bust at this point then. After Patterson basically said he could only thank God for not getting the Tennessee job I feel he may be out.

I don't know if that's what he meant. You may be correct but it seems to me like he gave a cautiously "I'm conscious of my current employer' type of answer.

Brass tax bets if he were approached with a superb deal by UT he'd consider it.
