Official Jon Gruden Thread 30

A dismissal of Jones immediately followed by an announcement of Gruden?

Everyone knows Jones is out. No big secret.

It's highly hinted at Gruden is being courted. No big secret. However...

Currie has a regularly scheduled press conference for whatever, comes to the mic, says "Coach Jones and I have discussed his future and we have agreed he will step down several weeks ago. Since that time, we have been actively pursuing a new head coach and it's my pleasure to announce Jon Gruden as the newest head coach for Tennessee Football. I'll yield the podium to him for a statement and questions."

Cue Gruden strolling in and taking the podium. Media goes crazy like a bunch of teenage girls at a Backstreet Boys concert. Volnation servers fail. The crowd goes wild.

Maximum boomage.

No problem with your scenario. Just suggesting that the benefits of waiting appear to have reached close to their maximum impact, and the costs of waiting only get higher.

Not worried about it, just saying. Not sure I entirely buy holding out just because "if we wait one more week, the impact will be so much greater!"

Most likely outcome I think is a post-Vandy announcement. This opinion is subject to change. :)

I think you really only need two assistants identified for an announcement, your OC and DC. That's a small enough group to where I think you could maintain OPSEC until the announcement. Just scatter a few misleading coordinator names out there (John Chavis, y'all?), and you have enough cover to make it to the podium.

And if you believe that JG has at least been toying with the idea of coaching at any level in the future, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched that he may have had conversations with potential OC/DC candidates for if/when that day were to come.

I immediately take everything with a grain of salt if someone starts out with "I heard this from a source or a friend" no matter what the news being delivered is. When I hear friend of a friend/relative/booster, I immediately stop reading.

That's very good advice.

Cade is a big time recruit, no doubt. But I'm not buying that a 17 year old is putting severe pressure on Currie to move faster.

I believe it potentially has more to do with his re-commitment after JG is hired, to add to the momentum and positive energy when that day comes.

Currie knows that when JG is announced, all the fans, recruits and everyone else will be back. All will be forgiven in an instance.
Currie might be forgiving & I will too, I guess, but I got a couple of "I told you so's!" to deliver first!

Exactly. Same as AD has a list of coaches in the event of an opening, a prospective head coach would have done the same.

thank you.
i get a bit too excited for my fingers when talking about the Grude

my apologies

No worries....just funnin'. Kind of a tradition around here. I'm usually late, and all of the alternative spellings are taken.

I know this has been said several times before, I just want to say that I am grateful for this continuing thread. The first round was a blast. This is epic! Where else can you find some of the finest 'insider's', top notch trolling, cooking tips, military discussions, workout tips /types, adult beverage deep details, drunk messages, prune juice benefits, gif class-for mobile too, and more. Better than what's on TV IMHO.
also help from fellow vols of finding a job

Hey Boro...after your have finished (and please wash your hands), how is your son doing?

LOL....getting better, but done for the season.

Thanks for checking. Next season should be fun, he's got an opportunity to be a three year starter.

I really believe that if we were to lose pretty big this weekend that Butch will be fired. Writing is on the wall that he definitely won't beat LSU if he can't beat Missouri, which means no bowl. No need to drag it on. May mess with Currie's timeline, but I just don't see the need to hold onto him any longer. Fire him after a loss to Missouri and fans will rally because they're excited to move on. LSU game would have a lot better crowd. Haha
