Official Jon Gruden Thread 30

But if the things we've collectively come to believe are true, specifically that the MOU was signed last Friday, then the opportunity to announce hasn't been there. Getting puzzle pieces together this week seems pretty likely. Especially with the very many reports we're getting of potential assistants being contacted.

Oh I agree on that part, I’m on board the train and think it’s done, basically. But I have two sticking points that lead me to the end of the season...FFCA and optics, as well as maximum boom. I just don’t see it occurring before then, even though I really wish it would so I can go back to my life.

From A friend:

I see no scenario where anything is leaked or announced about Gruden until there is an opening. Until there is an opening there is not going to be a verifiable leak. Once there is an opening, if the next head coach is Jon Gruden it will be announced well before anyone can "leak" anything.

I agree with this. It's what I was alluding to earlier when talking about my contacts not having anything else to pass on.

Is this a leak about there being no leaks?

The Grude News, the morning edition. For those just joining us...

OX0yQ.gif

Well, we managed to make it like at least...a while without a catastrophic meltdown since the last update. Which is a good thing considering how regularly scheduled the crazy was the past few weeks. And of course, by saying that I probably invited the crazy to roll back in. My bad in advance.

I will hand it to the Beaver, he stepped up and helped Vols in need via this forum. Most places call that a righteous dude. Bravo sir. And it spurred additional posters stepping up to help those in need. Whether or not folks think us crazy for believing in the Gruden, we are a community that will help each other without hesitation.

Though the Night Shift has been slacking as of late. Only a hundred posts or so last night after midnight. Shame on you people. And you call yourselves Grudenites... We should get Escape Goat in here to teach you all how to do it. What's that? EG is missing too? Well, this is awkward...

Speaking of awkward. The whole ESPN truck thing just didn't pan out. Even truck drivers have to have a place to spend the night, folks. Let's dial the Hardy Boys adventures back juuuuuuust a tad. There's a fine line between fun and excessive creepy bunny boiler status. Some of ya'll are straddling that line.

We got onto a Pokemon Go conversation somehow. And it got slightly odd. We'll leave it at that, but I will say someone's mod campaign should be put on hold until it's determined if he's actually joking about being over 30 and playing Pokemon Go.

Last full day for Doyle's poor, battered Grudometer. It's already put out a Craigslist ad seeking a new home and promised to upgrade its announcement music to something other than the Spice Girls when Gruden is announced. The Grudometer has suggested possibly "counseling" and time apart without an official separation.

No real updates from any of our regular info sources. DTO, Boro, SC, Beaver and Atlanta have all gone into deep silence mode. From lack of info? Maybe. I'll remain positive and say "no news is good news" for the status of the hunt.

In other news today, it was announced voice overs for the forum posting will be put on indefinite hold due to the ongoing strike of actors contracted for the positions. Actor Samuel L. Jackson was quoted as saying "Why the **** does this stupid **** keep saying ****ing asterisk when I plainly ****ing say ****?!" Sandra Bullock, voicing for SmokingBob, was released from her contract for repeating "that gaudy orange is not in my color wheel" at the end of every post. Also, Gerard Butler was puzzled by his representation of Comb and having to use his King Leonidas voice for every post of "Gruden...to...the...Hill!"

Additionally, actors were complaining of harassment by several of their online counterparts. Justin Beiber made the statement "it's hard to get everything down right when that Behr guy is pounding on your door at all hours yelling 'I just wanna be friends! We can hang out!' It's not that I don't want this gig, but I really can't take that pressure." Additionally, James Earl Jones said his lines were "too bland" and asked why he was limited to only saying "You just made the list" in his Darth Vader voice for nearly every post.

Furthermore, Chris Hemsworth walked off the set when Volly and SFD were found violating their restraining orders and were discovered hiding behind potted plants with large cheesy grins. Security escorted the pair out of the studio, but not before noting "potted plants typically don't move under their own power from place to place nor do they giggle." Negotiations were ongoing and an additional battalion of security was ordered before the cost overrides put a hold on the project.

From the entire Volnation News Team, I'm Grand Vol and I don't wanna hear your excuses! The building has to be at least... three times bigger than this!

(All information herein is specifically parody unless otherwise indicated by real posters or events)

wow. no mention of my coat. I see you trying to bring down my perceived success.

The thing is, once potential assistants are being contacted, we are looking at the dam bursting with the info chain. As I mentioned the other night, once one knows, the whole world knows.

If (IF for those reading impaired) an MOU was signed, Gruden is in pocket and he's searching for a staff, there is no way the AD can keep a lid on it. Right now, if things are as we suspect, everything is compartmentalized into the AD and Gruden camp. But once that spills over into a new staff? It's entirely out of their control and someone will talk and info will get out there. Intentional or accidental, that kind of thing has to propensity to blow the lid off any boom that might occur.

I think you really only need two assistants identified for an announcement, your OC and DC. That's a small enough group to where I think you could maintain OPSEC until the announcement. Just scatter a few misleading coordinator names out there (John Chavis, y'all?), and you have enough cover to make it to the podium.

You're friend lied to you and shouldn't be considered a friend anymore.

You can believe what you want to believe. I choose to believe him. He has nothing to gain by telling me this and everything to lose. 20 year long friends don't lie to friends about a meeting/speech. There is a 1% chance I misunderstood, so I'll text and ask again. But, I mean... who makes up a lie about a speech. If he wanted to lie, he would have said Manning gave a speech and they had beers afterwards.

I think we may have reached a point where the quest for maximum boomage is yielding diminishing returns.

A dismissal of Jones immediately followed by an announcement of Gruden?

Everyone knows Jones is out. No big secret.

It's highly hinted at Gruden is being courted. No big secret. However...

Currie has a regularly scheduled press conference for whatever, comes to the mic, says "Coach Jones and I have discussed his future and we have agreed he will step down several weeks ago. Since that time, we have been actively pursuing a new head coach and it's my pleasure to announce Jon Gruden as the newest head coach for Tennessee Football. I'll yield the podium to him for a statement and questions."

Cue Gruden strolling in and taking the podium. Media goes crazy like a bunch of teenage girls at a Backstreet Boys concert. Volnation servers fail. The crowd goes wild.

Maximum boomage.

I immediately take everything with a grain of salt if someone starts out with "I heard this from a source or a friend" no matter what the news being delivered is. When I hear friend of a friend/relative/booster, I immediately stop reading.

This. Non-chalance.

I'm not sure Larry is confirming done deal or not, but he's changed his stance over the past few weeks. And we should all see that as a very positive thing. Larry, like Hubbs, is usually very cautious and conservative. They don't blindly buy into the hype and jump on board, something I admire and think we could all learn from.

But he's changed his tone and stance on all this. You should be very encouraged by that.

The day is coming.

one problem with this theory...
gruden dont stroll.
he will be strutting or at least be carried on a throne.

I think what you described is how it really goes down.

I know this has been said several times before, I just want to say that I am grateful for this continuing thread. The first round was a blast. This is epic! Where else can you find some of the finest 'insider's', top notch trolling, cooking tips, military discussions, workout tips /types, adult beverage deep details, drunk messages, prune juice benefits, gif class-for mobile too, and more. Better than what's on TV IMHO.

Edited to ask what did I miss?

Remember last time with the reports with pictures of getting set up for press conferences. That ain't happening this time.

Fair enough, and typically I’ll do the same. But let me assure you my post from earlier should not be dismissed. We shall see....

What do you think is the main factor with the timing?

I'm currently liking the "Gruden as FFCA honcho doesn't want to appear to be poaching the job" theory.

I think it's multifaceted with that being an important element. I think AD wants certain appearances in place as well.
