Official Jon Gruden Thread XXIX

Gruden is not actively recruiting (or de-recruiting) on behalf of UT.

Straight from conspiracy to the twilight zone.....

I agree. Recruits aren’t hearing and don’t know anything. They just know it’s a mess and want to keep options open in case nothing changes. What this all boils down to is Gruden respects Butch as a football coach and wants him to be able to finish the season and leave with dignity rather than be fired mid season. Gruden is not using recruits as leverage in any way.

i've went into the RF and couldn't make heads or tails of anything. you click a thread with a recruits name, and it's got hundreds of posts. no way to keep up or catch up (kinda like gruden threads, but on a smaller scale.)

just seems like no rhyme or reason in there ... just cluttered.

maybe it's just me.
maybe i need someone to take me to the party, and introduce me.

RF threads get off-topic a lot simply because there's not always much to talk about with the recruits. Most stay in the RF Football Talk thread, as most don't want to venture into the insanity that is usually the FF topics.

I have ventured into this thread from the RF as I have found it entertaining with a lot of good info and really good people.

Now...as for the rest of the FF...

Speaking of Mays, I have a question. I've only seen a very small amount of tape on him and he was so much larger than everyone else, are we sure he will be all that once he is competing with others his size?
If someone who is qualified to answer this would respond, I would appreciate it! The size differential was immense so just wondering.. Tia

There is no right answer here. If the right coaches are in place to develop, and the kid buys in I would say yes.
At the end of the day, they are kids and no one really knows until they are on campus.

When discussing the Mays decommit with Mr. SFD last night, we were wondering if Gruden might be wanting a bunch of kids to decommit. That way he gets to go pick his own instead of dealing with all the offers that have already been made.

Interesting perspective. Then JG is not the bad guy, they left on their own accord. If the corner stone of the class leaves, others will follow.

Correct. He isn't actively doing anything. It is possible though that he is passively allowing the attrition.

I agree.

I wasn't challenging your comments. Vol_atile, however, seemed to be implying that Gruden is sniffing this out like a hound on a scent trail. If that's what he meant, he couldn't be more wrong.

The larger the roll Sexton plays it lessons our opportunity at getting Gruden.... Sexton makes zero money if we hire Gruden.

He has been very influential in the previous hires

This is the point that I was trying to make...

I feel like Sexton and Haslam are pretty tight, at least based on UT's last several coaches.

I think it is a very safe assumption that they are saving the official visits for a new staff.

Number of visits/meetings is per school, correct? They don't reset after a coach/staff is fired/not retained. So anything Butch does now with recruits would hinder/undermine the oncoming staff/coach. Hence why visits are on hold.

Wes Rucker is FOS. Butch is not being allowed to recruit if recruiting is truly his lifeblood. That in of itself is confirmation he's gone.

Sidenote: I wonder how many times I can use the / symbol in a post?

Yes, I think we now have to expect that no announcement on a new hire will be made until after the last regular season game (and, no, I do not see bowl eligibility in our future).

Maybe it is announced that Butch is out the week of the Vandy game, and the new hire named on Sunday or Monday after. That is the earliest I see anything happening at this point.

The old guard hates to give up what they have had so long. The Pilot trouble has hurt the Haslams in more ways than people realize not only politically ( Why do you think Bill is not running for the Senate, they were setting him up the run for the highest office !!!! ) but in the also business wise as well.

Had to listen to the Who play "We Don't Get Fooled Again"........Meet the new boss, same as the old boss! All signs pointing to a change but let's hope the new boss isn't a control freak.
