If I'm not mistaken it a state law regarding state employees and their endorsements. As the Head Football coach Gruden is a state employee and he would be bound by the state law. The GA would need to change the state law for him to legally be the Head coach at UT.

I think this is correct. Not 100% but pretty sure.

Which is funny. I think there’s a better chance of Gruden coming than Meyer or Richt, but I’m sure we’ll have some trolls come in today with breaking news about how Gruden has never coached in college or won a super bowl with someone else’s players
It's getting sad when this is the most sane thread ?

If this is the case... and I assume it is, then it is impossible for us to KNOW that what Beaver is saying is true or what DeerPark is saying is true...

I guess we will soon enough :hi:

My belief in all of this has nothing to do with either poster. I immediately discount DP, though, because his attitude is one suggesting that this is all a pipe dream. That isn't true, so I must disbelieve any more of what he says. The Beav hasn't said anything that conflicts with other things I know to be true.

If Ergen wants it done it should be no problem. Ergen losing a few billion and gaining a few billion is no big deal and we are only talking about millions with Tennessee. Take a look at this link especially near bottom of page with net worth over time graph.

Here is Jim Haslam. Not even in Ergen’s league

You know, I did some reading on Ergen when all this started getting legs. His wealth is impressive, but Dish is not where his BIG money is going to come from. Since '08 he's been buying Wireless Spectrum Licenses. To the tune of $20 billion worth. Sprint, T-Mobile, and Amazon are all over him to sell them, or partner with him. But instead he submitted paperwork to the FCC this year for plans to build a faster 5G network before the required 2020 deadline when everyone is supposed to be on 5G. This coupled with the fact that he was a gambler run out of Vegas and he located to Colorado in 1980 and started selling satellites out of the back of his pickup, with his wife as the only employee, tells me he's a man that likes to take chances and take charge. His whole story is inspiring. Shows he's a shrewd business man too.

I agree completely with everything you just posted ... the Big question here for me, is NO ONE has shown me YET that it is Ergen that is behind the hiring of Gruden..

If it is him... I am 99.9% sure it gets done.... but at this present time I don't have enough evidence to say that it is....

By the way if it's not, that does NOT say it will not happen... just more sure with Ergen

That is a good theory. Both of them can be kind snotty at times.

Correct, and he claims previous employment with the UTAD. That would explain many of his post on here including recent post stating he doesn't work for the UTAD. Additionally, he would still have those connections inside the UTAD.

The biggest thing for me is that the Gruden to Tennessee rumors are everywhere and Jon has yet to deny it. If it were totally untrue wouldn't Gruden just say it's BS?

Has anyone asked him in an interview/ect? I doubt he'd publicly comment on a job that is still held by a head coach.

And if he did respond to a question about Tennessee's head coach position(that is still held by Butch Jones), I'd bet it would be a very vague answer that doesn't reveal anything one way or another.

Thing is, if Gruden were open to coaching again in 2018, Tennessee probably isn't the only team (college or NFL) that might pursue him. If he wants to go the NFL route, I'm sure all the rumors of him going to Tennessee could help him get a better contract from an NFL team if they think they're fighting against other opportunities.

I wish that I could say that gaining or loosing a few billion was no big deal. That's a lot of zeros.

And on top of that, he's having a little fun with it...see Travis Stephens' Instagram video of Grude shouting out Vol fans. I have to go back and watch it occasionally...gives me the chills!

I read DP's posts yesterday and came away thinking he had some sort of agenda. He appeared to be trying to spread a message ( disinformation ). JMO

I think this is correct. Not 100% but pretty sure.

If that's the case that would be the biggest barrier to Gruden taking the UT job providing he actually wants to be a college coach.

Therefore, if when he ever returns to coaching its very likely it's the NFL and my guess would be Tampa. Even though I would certainly rather see him at UT.

Which means...smokescreen. Gruden is coming to the hill. #Soon #SargeForMod

As much as I want Gruden here, I've been wondering about his sponsorships. If he has to give them up, I'd think that would be a huge hurdle in the process.

Not sure I care enough to discuss it, but I find these three comments interesting.

Yeah Ergen needs to wear his big boy pants.... pay the bill or shut up. It’s time in general for Tennessee to put up or shut up or it may not ever be the same.
