Official Jon Gruden Thread XXIX

Heather on 99.1 said that during our 1st coaching search Charlie strong said yes to us and then changed his not mind overnight and didn't get on the plane to come here. Is that true? I thought that it was just a flat out no when we asked him if he wanted to be the coach. I never knew was that close.

Coasty, I agree with others. Ergen may not directly be donating, but DISH is everywhere. They're even on the tickets this year.

Dish sponsoring the Vols is a win for everyone. It's deductible and a good marketing campaign for dish, and it gets around the individual charitable donation issues for Ergen. It also provides funding for the football team, which frees up money to be used in other areas of the school.

However, no one wants to sponsor a dud of a team and if the numbers are bad enough, a corporation might decide it's not in the company's best interest to sponsor any longer. I would imagine this would be very effective leverage for Ergen if this is the case.

Someone (said he was a friend of Deerpark's) posted that he was NOT an Adidas rep and that was NOT the company that he represented ... If that is true then this narrative does not hold water

I think Deerpark is Ainge's co-host Brian. Many of the same things that he has posted on here he has said on air.

If Ergen wants it done it should be no problem. Ergen losing a few billion and gaining a few billion is no big deal and we are only talking about millions with Tennessee. Take a look at this link especially near bottom of page with net worth over time graph. Ergen has lost and gained what Haslam is worth over last 2 years.

Here is Jim Haslam. Not even in Ergen’s league

Grude Morning. Finally caught up in here so time to do a little work. Will be lurking again later.

#soon

Mornin' Coasty. I'm still patiently waiting.
Great post Jos3y, my sentiments as well.
Coasty, I think a pretty good source said yesterday that Anderson was the one pushing for Gruden. I don't know anything, but I did read that.
Maybe Beaver's big surprise for us is that he's taking us all to Cancun. I'm headed out to buy a new swimsuit. :D

I am beginning to believe this is more correct than Ergen

Seems like I remember that being the way it went.
He agreed, changed his mind, and we got Jones.

The biggest thing for me is that the Gruden to Tennessee rumors are everywhere and Jon has yet to deny it. If it were totally untrue wouldn't Gruden just say it's BS?

Not trying to be argumentative, but that wasn't what you were saying ( or at least the way me and others took it). Despite that fact your information was wrong anyway.

Maybe I wrote the post wrong I am on mobile and it sucks. But what about my info is wrong? I am only saying what he being Cade has said himself

If we get Gruden, that means the whole landscape changes. That even means if Gruden wants to keep current endorsements, you let him. UT’s ad will have to go full Bama and let Gruden have total control like Saban has.

If I'm not mistaken it a state law regarding state employees and their endorsements. As the Head Football coach Gruden is a state employee and he would be bound by the state law. The GA would need to change the state law for him to legally be the Head coach at UT.

I think this has been outlined before, but that second profile is Jimmy’s (son, Browns owner), not Jim’s (Father, Pilot founder).

It is impossible for us to know what kind of agreements have been worked out. Ergen could well be and is likely to be a strings attached donor.

If this is the case... and I assume it is, then it is impossible for us to KNOW that what Beaver is saying is true or what DeerPark is saying is true...

I guess we will soon enough :hi:

Ok. A couple of things

1. Based on behaviour I am now thinking that The Beaver is a Troll

2. I like Nickelback.

Before you start stoning me and tar/feather.....

I still believe that Gruden is coming. Soon.
