Official Jon Gruden Thread XXVI

Beaver has been applying pressure from day 1. His "done deal" stance was obviously him saying that Gruden was all in and that the only thing that could disrupt the hire was the AD and the puppet masters. He was effective. If Gruden is not hired, where will we all place the blame. Rightfully on the AD and Haslam. Beaver was just upping the ante and continues to do so, masterfully and hopefully effectively.

I'm basing the meeting is tonight off of TOS that said the meeting was tonight.

Yes I read AV's post and he did not say a timeline but TOS did and I couldn't imagine that they were talking about separate meetings.

And it confirms what Buba said earlier that the BOT was not the only meeting that was occurring this week.

What happened in the meeting today that Haslam won? Renovations were approved for phase 1. New donors were mentioned. I'm confused as to what points to Haslam based on what was discussed and voted on? To me, the tweets are applying pressure.

He also said it was done to the point he would be back to see those who doubted, and those who were behind it all never missed. He posted several times that there was zero chance of this falling through. I’ve doubted him from the beginning, and made myself a bad guy for daring to do such a thing.

You evil person !

The news from the BOT meeting today only confirms things are moving and a change in the guard is upon us. Someone, that most on this board was unaware of, appears to have resurrected the university we all so dearly love.

If what MIT Beaver is saying is true, then this is really about one thing, CONTROL. The Haslam family have enjoyed almost unfettered control over on the hill especially in athletics for a few decades. I think we would all agree that the "family" has not done a very good job in athletics.

That family has run our athletics programs (save a precious few) into ditch after ditch. If MITB is correct, then this is an epic struggle for power and control. I have witnessed first hand the degradation of the football program and the men's and women's basketball programs and I have had all I can stand. It is time for some new blood to call the shots. The "family" needs to get out of the way.

Well said.

And apparently the academic side is getting a huge boost as well to go along with it.

It's called who has the bigger d%^k.

All about the power. Just look at that crazy dude from Auburn that they finally ran out town (after several folks were indited), Bobby something?
Also Bear Bryant jr, who actually got UAB football shut down. These guys don't live in the real world and think that the way they think is the way everyone should think.

This, this, this. MIT is obviously a very smart guy. If the deal was only partially done and still awaiting outside approval, he would have clarified that. In his original post he said "The deal is done. We'll be celebrating with scotch soon". No ambiguity, no amplifying information. THAT CAN ONLY MEAN 1 THING.

So the way i see it (if I’m reading what’s going on correctly) Haslam wins this round but it’s only one battle. The next phase is the Ergen camp applying the pressure to Bev by pulling funding/the VC money for the Academic side to get her to tell Currie to pound sand. Leverage and pressure. Even if Haslam won today it’s not over.

what or how did haslam win today?

they voted to fund the renovations, thus relying on ergen and the booster coalition to get it done.

i don't follow.

From: a nobody

Tons of speculation ... utter speculation

Facts:
Betting odds are down to 2:1 Gruden... during the odds drop down to +200 other candidates odds increased

Butch hasn’t tweeted/RT since early OCT..

Tennessee is the 2nd richest football program in the country.. we haven’t been actively recruiting since early Oct.. choosing to bypass even the HC game, a classic “show & tell” especially for program’s w/ tradition like UT.. oh and it’s now NOV the very tail end of a over a year’s worth of recruiting and we choose to stop communications in the 4th qrt... not to mention while having a nationally ranked good/great class

Gruden contract details were leaked at $10mill on multiple sites

Gruden, unlike in past cycles has yet to publically deny or shoot down speculation of a UT move.. some could say after several of his comments in the midst of MNF that he even fueled that speculation

Now, - 107mill to 180mill increase in stadium reno plans.. 73mill increase isn’t anything to scoff at

... surely this institution wouldn’t let the bloodline of the program to be shut down.. with no larger plan.. over a month before BOT meeting and the “Meeting of Powers.”

My take, and it’s certainly not rocket science, but it does support the need for a great coach with a very competitive football team....football and major boosters make the world go ‘round!

I know Gruden would directly increase the sponsorship dollars. Can't imagine folks are real happy buying advertising for the crap product Butch is putting on the field.

I have to be honest... and I want to believe, but I think MIT is full of ish.

Just have to say, would a multimillionaire with so much influence really give a **** about message boarding and twittering? Seems like it’s sophmoric.
