Official Jon Gruden Thread XXVI

I'm 50 pages behind and will catch up on lunch. Something happened last night that I had to connect before I came to work. I understand all of it now. (I BELIEVE I do at least)

I believe I see the whole battlefield, there was some weird haze on the LZ. I'm so far behind today hell Gruden could have already been announce, or it's all over. The internal investigation no doubt shortened the route to the LZ, but might have added some obstacles along the way. You have to reevaluate that route with your staff before continuing.

Like I've been saying though it's about the journey to find the answers.

After I get caught up I will probably slow down a lot and just keep up. Sorry everyone if I don't put more out, but this has been so time consiming I have other things I need to start shifting my attention to. I have a job interview in 2 weeks to study for.

Some people read a post and move on, some people read everything and when they don't fully understand the situation they solve that problem before continuing. Patience in solving the problem cannot be overstatted.

I believe in the players that have come together to get this done to make UT great again, both as an institution of higher learning, and in athletics.

See you later today. Again, I am not insider, far from it!

What is the policy on suspending a coach?

I know when something happens with a player, most of the time, the player is suspended pending an investigation.

Is there a precedence for a coach being suspended regarding an investigation concerning health and safety of a player? Just wondering.

That's sucks I wish they would stop already, the last one they did took away seats they need to add more

We've already fallen behind in the arms race as far as capacity goes, so why not make what we've got nicer? Jmo

I'd probably moan and groan if we ever dropped below 100k, though.

All I can say is if Currie doesn't have his guy, and this deal with a top-flight coach falls through, the optics of announcing the $340 million Neyland renovations will sour even more fans over time than the idiotic announcement from today.

IMO, pretty awful decision to announce that during peak fan frustration when most fans that don't sit on the forums all day believe what Hyams/Rucker/etc. are saying about us not being able to afford the buyout, not having the money for a top coach, etc.

So....Currie better hope he doesn't mess this hire up. Because I understand how budgets/financing/etc. all works and even I am pretty irked at their decision to throw more money at Neyland before fixing what matters the most....the on field product.

Here's a question you may not be able to answer Boro.

At what point does Currie finally step in and say "this is how it is, get over it, I"m the boss"?

From what it sounds like, it seems and excuse the term, the inmates are running the asylum
My guess, and it's only a guess, is he might do that once he has to appoint an interim...either because he's forced to or it fits an agreed to timetable.

Someone on Twitter posted that this is what the south end zone would look like. RTI's article said they are "adjusting the south end zone to comply with NCAA safety guidelines" Twitter

Awesome! But our offense hasnt seen what the South end zone currently looks like in quite a while either. 😂😂😂

i gotta admit, i'm not feeling as optimistic as you guys. it has nothing to do with what i have or have not seen or heard.

i thinks it's just the time lapse that's wearing me down.

that, and the disgusting sickening feeling of disappointment last time. i guess i'm just bracing for the possibility of no JG. But man i hope with all my heart we get him.

i'm all in til this is over, but it sure is taxing me.

As an ole friend use to tell me "It takes a lean horse to run a long race"... This my friend is a long race not a short sprint.... hope you don't loose faith but this will take a lot longer than any of us here want it to... and we will are still a ways out imho

Doyle's Grudometer is at 15% this morning.

After all the allegations of concussions, head of VFL resigning, and shouting matches between Currie and Jones, you would think if the AD truly had an ace in his pocket like Gruden now would definitely be the time to play it. With the public perception that the hill is burning to the ground you would think that he would at least go ahead and pull the trigger on Jones in an attempt to douse the flames even if he wasn't ready to announce to the general public who the next hire would be. I find it troubling to even consider that the powers that be might be willing to sit back and allow the Tennessee brand to be dragged through the mud in order to possibly save some money. Things seem to be getting uglier and uglier by the day with seemingly nothing being done to correct it.

No offense to his followers but I still don't get the fascination with the Beaver man. Maybe I'm just missing something but the only thing I have seen him predict that makes me pause from outright calling him a troll is the movement on some obscure offshore betting line. All of his predictions on the media coverage could have easily been made by any of us. If you take a moment to suspend your belief that Gruden is the hire and look at from possibility that he is a pipe dream, it's not hard to see. Of course the media won't initially talk about Gruden because it's far fetched. Then as more and more fans begin to clamor for Gruden the media will be forced to report on it pointing out the near impossibility of the idea. When that does no good the next logical step is to report on the questions that Gruden could even be a successful coach in order to talk people off of the ledge of disappointment once a hire is made and that hire is not Jon Gruden.

As far as the other insiders go (Boro, DTO, OV) they have consistently said over and over that they are only 100% predicting that Jones will not be coaching at Tennessee next season. Never once have I seen them say that without a doubt Gruden will be the hire. Too many people seem to want to jump to that conclusion because it is what they want to believe. Too many are reading in between the lines instead of taking what is said at face value. Yet, if something happens and the hire is not Gruden these same people will be coming back here to crucify these gentlemen for misleading them.

Sorry for the tldr post but I just wanted to attempt to explain where I am at and why I'm there. I like to look at things from both sides of the equation and draw my conclusions from doing so. I am not attempting to argue that my opinion is right or attack anyone who may disagree. I may very well be wrong and sincerely hope that I am.

Thanks Doyle.

Haha, okay. It's just that Im aware of that.

I think he wanted Currie because he felt like Currie would be a better choice to help him get what he wants.

Yes. I’m sorry I can’t keep up with who knows what or who says what because this board moves so fast. It is like an open stream of the minds of 1000 people. Grand Vol either reads every single post or he is in some kind of WWII intel bunker with 100 people feeding him information

Has Butch come out and said, "My coaches and players ALWAYS do what I tell them!" Legally, how does your logic hold up if Butch comes out and says, "We have an established procedure which doesn't appear to have been followed"?

Well, again, just a friendly debate, not trying to invoke hard feelings or anger, but it goes without saying, the HC must have and is responsible for the control of his staff and team. If his coaches do not always follow his set policies, what does that say about his ability to be in charge of a staff and lead a team. An inability to control the locker room, the inability to ensure assistants follow his policies, these things cast doubt on his ability to be a HC. Everything UT Football is his responsibility. He is the "Caretaker" of UT Football. Again, jmho

Obviously.

I've already said I hope everything he said is true.

I'm just thinking, what if it's not, even just some of it, or what if it is and it blows up? You and I agreed that it could with a flip of a switch. Who flips that switch and why?

Maybe Im over thinking the plumbing, or maybe just concentrating on the wrong leak.

I'm not trying to discredit anything you're saying or arguing.

I know. This is a conversation between colleagues.

This are great questions. I think the problem is that the plumbing is inside the walls and we have an incomplete knowledge of where the pipes all go.

At first I was encouraged that Atlanta Vol hadn't been posting, but the longer this goes on the more I think he's locked himself in a closet with a bottle of jack to escape from the pain
