I will have to honestly say that I have ways considered myself a fairly intelligent individual. But as I read the complex conspiracy theories that you boys and girls banter about it basically just goes sailing over my head. Kudos to those of you who have the forensic capacities to connect random drops of information into relative coherent trains of thought. My hats of to each of you.

It’s really quite easy to accumulate that.....8 tickets terrace...donations etc....point being we all want better and are begging for a winning program. I’m all for what’s best for UT, will support no matter what and all in. Currently we are not treading water, we are sinking when we all know what it should and could be. I’m over 50 years old and sit with some former UT players that are a generation older. If you want a true perspective of what UT football tradition is and was and not some watered down social media version it would behoove you to have a conversation with them.
yeah I guess I can see how it would all add up. .I am only 39 but still buy and sit in the same seats in section q row 34 that have been in the family since Dickey’s first year in ‘64.... I assure you that my understanding of UT football tradition is intact lady so I don’t need much behooving.... thanks for the offer though

Losing faith in Currie. No faith in admin. Losing faith rapidly with boosters. No one looks good right now. Everyone looks terrible. Currie looks weak. Admin looks too powerful. Boosters look disorganized and detached because they haven’t gotten it done.

Something has to give... and the way it looks right now isn’t good.

I was about to post something similar...couldn't agree more! Hopefully it all works out in the long run however the short run isn't looking so good.

Crazy out there! I also think it's funny when the newbies show up in here. It reminds me of a joke....

I was walking past the mental hospital the other day and overheard the patients chanting 13,13,13.
Well I was curious and the fence was to high but I seen a gap in the planks so I went to get a look and one of them poked me in the eye with a stick.
They all started chanting 14,14,14.
That's how I learned to mind my own business.

I think the Kendrick situation is the tip of an iceberg. Currie and Jones do not want that exposed. Therefore the deal/termination will be pushed up so the iceberg is not exposed. I've never seen as many bad injuries for the Vols since I became a fan in 1982. This has been an epidemic for Jones. Even the Rock didn't help. Something is rotten in Denmark!!

I think it is apparent that Currie didn't want to fire Butch during the season- it was possibly negotiated long ago with Butch wanting out the door last year. Butch is so thin skinned that he couldn't handle being fired, so he agrees to a lower buyout and gets to finish the season. No one could have seen this season tank like it has and no one could have imagined this situation with Kendrick. I think it gives the boosters more power especially with the BOT meetings upcoming because it makes the admin and AD look completely inept- and that is playing out in public for all to see. They now have three horrible hires that have all ended badly, Butch could be the worst of all, so it doesn't really give them any leverage to have a say in the next hire.

OK I'll bite. I believe the Kendrick situation could actually act as a thorn in the side of the boosters and complicate things on Currie's side. I hear everything the others are posting, but consider this:

Let's say a deal had been reached. All things were more or less squared away. <Enter BK situation> On one hand, Currie now has more pressure to make something happen now, to expedite the process. The boosters push in that direction. "What more proof do you need this guy is a disaster for the university?" Valid points BUT, Currie also has to consider...

If he can fire him with cause, he potentially saves a lot of money. Problem is, it will take time to get all those ducks in a row. To save money on the buyout would be ideal to all parties, except that the boosters want this to happen ASAP. They're applying pressure to get it done, and will use things like the Buccaneers rumors to work that angle.

For Currie, the BK situation is about $$
For the boosters, the BK situation is about PR & image.

So Currie is caught between being patient and solving the issue of money OR firing now and solving the issue of image.

Hypothetically, what about if excessive delay causes the deal to fall through and the enraged boosters hold onto their donations? Plus, the university image looks like **** since Currie allowed a coach who played a concussed player to hang on for four more games?

In that scenario, no Gruden, no money, and the Tennessee’s image takes a big hit.

Again, that’s just a hypothetical, but if Currie puts the deal in jeopardy (if such a deal exists) to save a buck, he better be sure he can pull it off. Otherwise, he’ll end up as the next failed athletic director.

And yet, all of those things can be remedied with one move.

This decision won't just define Currie's tenure. It will paint a very clear picture of who really has the power on the Hill. This is a big deal. Which is why we all must be patient.

Yep, it's almost like they were beamed up to the Gruden Mother Ship and provided with the knowledge to share with Volnation.

The Comb is one of my favorite posters on VN. Insiders are around, it has been a very interesting past 2 days. The Kendrick’s issue is a big deal (both in the health of that kid and on the implications it has on Butch).

For the game theory nerds, whoever can correctly summarize the implications this has on Currie and the boosters will win a a couple free scotch drinks on me at a home game next year.

Not a game theory nerd, but I do think this has put Currie in a mighty bind.

Butch's contract has a mitigation clause, and Currie would obviously support Butch's quest for another job. It's a win/win and avoids the unpleasantness of trying to find cause for termination. By stinking this up, Butch has greatly reduced his value in the market...at no loss to himself, but at great loss to UT. If Currie takes the high road, UT suffers. If Currie pushes this event as a basis for termination, UT regains the money, but at significant cost in drama.

There really is no win for Currie. Waste millions to maintain a relatively peaceful and drama free transition, or push for termination for cause to save up to the full buyout, but invite pain, drama, and litigation. All because (fired) Butch didn't take care of his player. Insult on injury. Crap sandwich, indeed.

It feels like it’s going to be Gruden or bust. And to those of us with no info, delay after delay seems to make “bust” a heavy favorite. Now of course, I don’t know what all is going behind the scenes, but with Florida looking and Tennessee insisting on riding Botch into a ditch, Currie is absolutely putting the pressure on himself.

There’s a huge win for Currie. Get Gruden (if it’s possible). Worried about Butch’s buyout later.

All I know is that this thread has consumed me. My wife thinks I'm crazy and my kids keep asking what's wrong?! I have to tell them...soon!

Dont leave this thread. It's a cold, sick and demented world out there.

The struggle is real. Hang in to the end my brother. You got this.

Remember the heartache when seeing Butch arrive at Mcghee Tyson? Watching Hart drive away to the uni with him in the passenger seat was hard slap from reality

Yes, I remember all of that. I just went back and watched his press conference and his 1st team meeting. He said the only place he would have left Cincy was to come to Tennessee. Oh and Colorado, which he had verbally accepted 4 days earlier. He also said he came here to win championships.

What do you have against Denmark?

Agree 90%. The delay gives rise to optimism and rightfully so. The longer this plays out, the longer it becomes "Gruden or bust". But I don't necessarily agree that the chance of "bust" rises the longer it plays out. If it is Gruden, there are certainly other factors at play, with his current contract, endorsements, etc. There's more to figure out.
