Official Jon Gruden Thread XXVI

I agree but the responsibility lies directly on the med staff to observe and initiate treatment and protocols....other than taking hiding him behind coaches not sure how you can argue the blame lies across multiple channels and contractually 1st and foremost with the medical staff.

Above all I think this does more damage to Tennessee as a brand for recruiting and in light of our AD being on the field at Kentucky his responsibilities could be questioned to athlete safety... this is actually the worst thing that could happen for our Gruden hopes, would be an easy out if talks were still in process or could null a contract as well.

This wouldn't "null a contract" with Gruden. Nor would it likely give him pause. It sounds like coaches, especially Wells) somehow circumvented the process. It's kind of hard to blame the medical personnel when the coaches are in the best position to notice an injury and at the very least failed to report this one to the medical staff. This is a really big deal for the coaches involved. Career ending stuff.

I found out what the big argument between Currie and Jones was yesterday. While meeting together, Jones told Currie that he had chosen candy corn as the treat they would pass out at home.

Currie started yelling “we don’t pay you over $4 million per year to screw the children of Knoxville over with candy corn”

Jones was upset and yelled as he was leaving “I’m sticking with my candy corn! It is an infallable halloween treat”

I see we're trashing lawyers today...

Just kidding. You know what you call a bus full of lawyers driving off a cliff?

A good start.

In all seriousness, I don't see anything that has happened to change the analysis. No information has come up that indicates anything different than before. The BK stuff is interesting, but I can't imagine this is something the players behind the deal anticipated or planned on.

Could they be capitalizing on a fortunate circumstance? Perhaps. However, in my mind, the substance of the deal has nothing to do with BK or anything. Windfall, maybe. Plan, doubtful.

Everything that has been leaked by the trusted people is consistent with what is happening now. It was said very early in the process that Currie wanted to give Butch as much time as possible, and that he wanted to announce a fire and a hire at the same time. That timeline is still in play, and the recent events would not change those planned events.

If we are still waiting on all the ducks to be lined up, then its just a matter of time.

To an earlier posters comment (Preacher, maybe); yes, it is 100% possible that all the contracts signed are future effective. Meaning that they will go into effect on a future date. Could be the date that JG has agreed to terminate his ESPN contract or any other agreed upon date.

Thus, soon.

I'm not chapping anyone's backside, it's a serious question to be asked.

Because if this is true, BK's parents could sue the AD and Jones and then NO coach would come here. At least nobody worth a crap.

Could you imagine how bad the backlash on this would be? This is a very bad situation that Currie has painted himself in, if the story of Butch being fired already are true.

I can easily see how someone could argue maybe one of the other coaches wouldn't have continued to play the kid.

It's just really bad all around and it's not something we need right now.

Settle out of court for far less than that buyout would be.

Here's the thing to me... lets say, butch didnt know about kendrick at time... and if he was as bad as ive heard he was on the field not looking like he knew where he was at, missing blocks etc. Couldnt jones, or any of the other staff on the sidelines, or up in the box, tell that there was something majorly wrong with kendrick? Hell, ive been coaching for 20 years and can tell if something is wrong with one of my players.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Worst case scenario currie keeps butch cuz of incoming recruiting class. Still doesn't make sense cuz he's on such a hot seat that few recruits are gonna come with all the rumors swirling of butch being gone anyway the next year most likely. This is past point of keeping him under any circumstances.

If you really think there's a chance Butch is back next year, and they've just decided to take a hiatus from recruiting for the past month, then we can't help you. He's gone. We know that much. Recruits know that. They're all in a holding pattern right now to see who the new coach will be. Some have stayed, some have de-committed. But it will all hinge on who is hired.

On the concussion issue....if this came to a head yesterday as I was told we are effectively 24 hours out. If it's going to be used as show-cause for eliminating a negotiated buy-out, there will be a good bit to document, and a mountain of legalities to get through. It may be it's being used to get Butch/Sexton back to the table again.

The fact is WE DONT KNOW, and that is the way they want it. Like everything else in this drama it's not on the fans timetable, no matter which side of the argument you fall on.

Exactly this. Sunshine pumpers will say Currie knows what he's doing but there's really no precedent for anything remotely close to this situation on his record.

Currie is starting to look utterly clueless. Acts almost detached from the reality of this disaster.

Please tell me then why a sitting head coach in the SEC (that hasn't been fired) wouldn't tweet or retweet recruits for over 3 weeks now.

I quasi-debunked this yesterday.
It's the first two bullet points of that post.

In short, Jones tweeted/RTed 4 times in all of last October. He tweeted/RTed 1 time in October 2015.

I don't think it is significant.

Edit: The search may only pull up his actual tweets rather than RTs. And I don't feel like scrolling all the way back to October 2016 to look for RTs, hah.

Edit 2: Okay, confirmed Twitter Advanced Search only shows Tweets you originate rather than RTs. So yes, that has gone dark since October. I've scrolled back through his profile, but Twitter stops loading tweets older than 11/24/16 for some reason. My apologies if I misled.

The boosters were obviously told that the KY game would be Butch's last...
The AD saying that he would continue to coach doesn't seem to line up with the original agreement.

Now you have negative media showing up (concussions, etc.)
Everyone involved in this is trying to get their way, and end up with as much power as possible in the future.

I believe the Kendrick story being released in just another sign that the Boosters are reminding everyone that intend to get their way this time...

It actually confirms my position

It's crazy. It's like y'all keep saying stuff with no evidence but for some reason we have people here not prepared to take everything you type as gospel. I don't get it either.

You're assuming any of this information is given to convince anyone of anything.

Currie playing chess analogy? Really? Come on man, you can't tell me that this isn't bad for the AD as a whole.

If Butch truly was fired after UGA and Currie allowed him to continue coaching and then this happened. That's on Currie's head just as much as it's on Butch's.

This is not a freaking checkers/chess analogy time, this is a serious accusation that can cause major problems for the football program and the AD

Slow your roll there. Butch may have been told he wouldn’t be coaching next season, but not to gtfo that minute. Like being given notice.
That would actually fall in line with what many are saying and not be so damning as you speak of

Not going to the Gruden info, but if you can't see that Butch is not going to be the coach after this season and that after Georgia was the timeline, I can't help you.

Please tell me then why a sitting head coach in the SEC (that hasn't been fired) wouldn't tweet or retweet recruits for over 3 weeks now. Also, why have official visits been suspended? These are obvious and plain things that are not hard to find out. Why they are not being reported, I don't know. I will agree with Boro and all the others that have heard the same things....that he was told after Georgia that he wasn't going to be the Head Coach in 2018. The $64k question is why hasn't the trigger been pulled, and that is an answer not many people know.

It's already been shown that he doesn't tweet a lot in the month of Oct.

My main contention about all of this is there has been nothing reported about this supposed firing. Sure we can all assume he's gone at the end of the year, but we don't know for sure.

We can't say with certainty that Currie wouldn't keep if he makes a bowl. We don't know.

What we do know is that there is now a story out there about our coach playing a kid with a concussion.

So my opinion on this, is if he was truly fired weeks ago, we would've seen a story or a rumor on ESPN or someone by now.

But we haven't, never have I seen where a coach on the hot seat/was fired/rumored to be fired and it never being reported.

If this concussion story is true, it's a real problem for the university/AD, especially if it could've been avoided if a fired coach wasn't still on the sidelines.

Excellent point concerning recruiting or the lack of. Never thought of it that way. :hi:

Butch Jones is the head freaking football coach. Everything that happens on our off the field related to this program ultimately comes down to him.

He absolutely had to know about BK’s concussion at the time. The medical staffs responsibility is to notify him of the players injury. I highly doubt a team physician or trainer would put their medical license on the line by NOT telling jones about a concussion.

Jones, IMO, is fully responsible

Of course it is. Unless you are prepared to post primary evidence as proof otherwise.

While this is factually true for you and me and most here. It may or may not be factually true to the man bringing the information to this thread. It is one of the main issues with forums. I can't see it, so I don't believe it. Because, if he were an intentional troll, he could also make up some sort of evidence. JMO
