It is dead!
Just waiting on someone with 1-5 post to say.
I am a long time lurker of this Gruden thread ever since it started ect. I am fill in the blank friends or my family. And heard ect. that Gruden is done deal.
I find it amusing but mostly skimm through quickly and look at most likes and see if OV, Boro, Beaver, Bubba , VFL92 Docvol or DTO has said something and read most of Behr, coastypop, 5fingervolpunch, knucklehead, utvolinexile, VFLnSFD, and last but not least Grand Vol with daily reports. At 1st I was very skeptical of VFL92 but seems legitimate.

Not exactly sure what this post is saying.

That said, there are many here much more connected than I am. I remain cautiously optimistic based on what I've heard. There are many more moving parts than many of us realize. To make something of this magnitude happen, many people have to sign off and look out for their own department, people, etc.

Football has changed the power at major institutions. The coach makes $4-5M, AD makes $1+M and the school president makes $300-400k. Some people have a problem with that. Those same people have all the more issue when you want to pay the coach $7+M.

The last thing I'll add is that Currie is a very smart guy. He knows what he's doing, and he sees the big picture much better than you or I do. Give the man a chance to do his job. If he screws it up and we end up with Freddie McGoogle, then by all means, complain away. But don't write him off yet. He's working hard behind the scenes.

Jmo but this whole #boycottneyland thing probably will never work for the same reasons the program has been allowed to sink to where it is today.

You have too many people willing to continue to head to the hill each Saturday for the social event aspect of it. Having a competitive team on the field is secondary and not very important to them. They are more interested in the pageantry, the tailgate, and supporting whatever the powers that be are willing to provide. These same folks would be more than happy for all of us disgruntled trailer park rednecks to fade away so they could be able to enjoy their cocktail party of mediocrity in peace.

He can be there longer than everyone, but if everyone else is against you, and depending on how the board works, I'll assume it works like any other board and that a simple majority will pass anything, then he has no power if stories are to be believed that everyone BUT Haslam is on board.

Also, Bill being governor and Head of the BOT is a lot to be considered. I think you're underestimating the power of the Haslam name and it's affiliation, no?

This! :good!:

I have contended since the beginning it is very unlikely but do not want to be "mean" about it like some posters. I enjoy this thread regardless. I do not know what happened Sunday night but I doubt that was what caused it. More likely they expected to let Butch go and Fulmer reasoned Currie into letting him finish the season which in retrospect may not be a terrible thing.

I am stoked however to have just been promised a seat at the Meet and Greet and press conference regardless of who they hire so BOOM on that!

Thanks for the reply.... Hope it's Gruden (I knew your stance there)

Congrats on the invite! :salute:

Good Post

Now we're just talking about sending messages with airplanes.

This guy is certifiable. I have tried to say it nicely but I will say it plainly now, no pun intended.

STOP LISTENING TO MIT BEAVER.

I cannot say everything I want to but I am <1% at this point Gruden will be our next coach as badly as I would love to see it happen. There is a straight up troll convention going on in this thread.

No, I'm not actually. Again, if the stories are to be believed and now everyone but the two Haslams are on board then how will they stop the hire?

Threaten to pull donations? Others can make it up. I just don't believe that two guys could hold up everything that everyone in the University, AD and BoT want. If it really is to that point.

Just doesn't seem possible.

This may have been mentioned already, but the prop bet for “Tennessee Head Coach” has been taken down from BetOnline. They are no longer taking action on it. There is a new bet for Florida Head Coach.

I think Currie knows what he's doing. I don't think he's dumb and I don't think he's deaf. The Shoop comment was very telling to me. I believe there is a plan and that plan involves a timeline. It's hard to have patience when you're watching your program bleed, but I think that's exactly what we need to do as fans. Have patience. Put the pitchforks away until we see how this plays out. Based on what I've read, I believe we'll be happy when this all plays out. :hi:

Do they really? I've tried looking at it from their perspective, and they realize they've got their residual source of income no matter how marginal the product. They may not like it, and say they feel our pain, but as long as they have their power and control, they sleep well at night.

From the standpoint of the everyday fan out here, we hear the near incessant ridicule and even pity caused by the perceived circus level cluster #$%! that is surrounding UT football right now. Especially those of us that live behind enemy lines.

At this point if all this seemingly confusing idiocy is being done to trot out Dan Mullen or Scott Frost, then we will all know exactly what the expectations of the people pulling the strings for this football program is. If it's a "splash" hire, all will be forgiven pretty quickly and a starved fan base will create excitement never seen around this program before.

This whole #EmptyNeyland thing is a crap sandwich created not by the fans, but many fans feel like the only method they have for voicing themselves and being heard is taking a bite even though they and the players that give their all suffer. The point is, they shouldn't have to even contemplate it...

Everyone has the right to feel however they want and everyone can express themselves however they please. As I have said my opinions have been made clear but I also realize my opinion does not carry as much dollar weight as Mr. Haslem or others that give millions.

You haven't followed my point. Make your statement next year if that is your position. Not showing up Saturday does very little in my opinion.

I’m still 3 pages back so forgive me if this has been covered.

I believe what the #emptyneyland crowd are trying to show is:
If you (boosters, admin, AD, etc) that if this is our new reality regarding football than these empty seats are your new reality.

If they do it now maybe the “powers” that be will make the right decision now so we can all unite and enjoy our Saturdays once again.

If my thoughts are correct that’s why people saying things like the university doesn’t care the tickets are already paid for doesn’t make a difference. aka change things now so we can proudly support next year

Again apologies if this has been covered I’m probably 5 pages back now and people keep saying the saying thing over and over, without trying to listen to the other side.

That this is story time most part of day with long time lurker stuff and basically fill in the blanks with different stories. I skim past a lot of that this dead time. Waiting on some news from realible posters. Bored! Need news!!!!

Those who say Gruden would be a bad Hire. Almost no coach is a guarantee, you have to win and recruit year after year. The only almost Guarantee is Gruden. These kids want to go to the NFL. They know Gruden,MNF,Super Bowl and especially the QBs ,your bread and butter.Recruiting is a given with Gruden and coaching, again Super Bowl. I almost forgot tuck rule game. NFL is very competitive you don't luck up and win. With everything we already have here at Tennessee Gruden would get the same tallent as Bama,Georgia,Florida,Ohio State all the big boys. We won't win them all because SEC and the other big boy conferences are very competitive just like yes the NFL. Jon Gruden brought back the big trophy once and could very well bring it back again at Tennessee. For those who say it would be a bad hire are not being intellectually honest with yourself. If we don't get Gruden then maybe Norvell, Campbell,Frost but first we need to try Gruden. Just feel Gruden closest to guarantee we have. We all want whats best for our Tennessee Vols.
