Official Jon Gruden Thread XXV

I did. He’s as perplexed as everyone else. Says he doesn’t know what changed but something did. Thinks Butch must be working on something on his end Because as the buyout and contract modifications stood when he left it, Kentucky was it and there was no further compensation discussed of he stayed past then. So, his speciation at this point (and actually makes sense), he thinks Butch has found a new team and is working out something with them and for whatever reason Currie is leaving him in place until then. Which again kind of lines up with the “no suitable interim coach.....giving TN the best shot at a bowl...”, while Currie works on what’s next for TN.

Unfortunately, he’s not involved in the day to day ops and Is used as different counsel for other non-football issues, but was used for legal during the buyout modification and agreement (with others). So, his work was competed last week unless he’s brought back in. As of yet, the agreement stands as they left it last week.

Thank you for your input and your service for our little community.

Another poster on here that has been locked out of his account because he tried to change his email address, UTVolinExile, stated the other day that his friend on the inside told him that the path on the academic end had been cleared. This is not a poster that jumps to conclusions or shoots off at the hip.

Somehow I missed this..... If that is the case, my confidence level is rising.... the only thing that looms big remaining is Haslam .... that is all it could be

So you have a pretty good idea of what’s going on then. If you had to guess why have the betting odds on Gruden moved all the way down 2.5/1, while every other candidate stays the same odds? I mean they have to know something right?

I don't gamble but the odds dropping thing would have to be good I would think. Again I don't gamble so that would just be my opinion.

FTR - I am FULL Grude, but.........

What if Gruden IS the smokescreen? It would provide the perfect cover. I also wonder how many UT fans would truly be upset if he doesn't come here. Since I hang out in here almost all the time, I'd think that number was around 100%, but then I see people that dare venture out of the Gruden thread and I hear horror stories, so my viewpoint may be skewed..
Like I said before, that would be like hinting your kid gets a bike for Christmas only to give him socks. That would be the most horrible smokescreen ever.

I have said it before and I will say it again...

I realize that I mean absolutely nothing in the great scheme of things. I am sure there are a bunch of sunshine pumping "Real Fans" that would love to see the likes of me go. That being said if Currie continues to drag this out through what I honestly believe will be a winless rest of the season only to end up marching out yet another Google search guy or god forbid retaining Jones, I am done with Tennessee football.

Tennessee should have seen the writing on the wall ten years ago when our biggest historical rival was investing into their program and building the dominant monster they are today. Instead of doing whatever it took to at least try to remain competitive our program chose to not only go cheap but also seemingly intentionally shoot itself in the foot at every turn. All of this has conditioned the fanbase to accept mediocrity and be ecstatic with simply being bowl eligible each year. I'm sorry but I'm from the generation that making a bowl game every season was a given. Hell, we used to be angry for not making a good enough bowl. Now we hand out contact extensions to coaches if they get us to the Summer's Eve Bowl.

Meanwhile Alabama keeps on dominating.
Meanwhile Georgia seems to have taken the next step.
Meanwhile Tennessee loses to Kentucky and continues to cling to Jones and show him more patience than they did a coach who actually won real championships here.

Mr. Currie, if you truly care about winning and getting Tennessee back to where it needs to be, it's time to do whatever it's going to take to make the hire to get it done.

1. Kindly send Butch Jones on his way.
2. Hire Jon effing Gruden.

One other observation. The academic elitists might try to marginalize football, but they sure like dipping their hands into the revenue stream. So, there is a dilemma. Do they burn it down and kill the goose? Or help it lay even more golden eggs?

Seems like a no brainer to me. But, on the other hand, these academic types really aren't anywhere close to as smart as they think.

Educated beyond their intelligence is the way I would describe it.

I'm floating on the 'S.S. Believe It When I See It' with you...

I'm with you. To me, Currie comes across as less than impressive. Hopefully Peyton, Fulmer and boosters are doing the heavy lifting on this Gruden thing, because I could see Currie just effing it horribly.

You're not alone. I hope they realize how critical this is for the future of Tennessee football.

I don’t either, but I just find it odd that he’s the odds on favorite to be the next Tennessee head coach and the local media totally shoots down an idea of it happening. I mean betting services usually knows these things by having reliable sources on the inside of situations like this.

Love the analogy and I don't disagree at all from a FULL Gruden perspective, but maybe the percentage of people that runs true with is relatively small? Just playing devils advocate though.

People have just as much right to put someone on ignore as just like they have the right to talk stupid, people have the right to say stupid stuff but people also have the right not to listen. SOON!!!! GBO!!!!

using ignore could be as simple as culling the herd ... less to have to weed thru to get to something significant ...

that's why i use it anyway

has less to do with someone saying something i don't agree with, and more to do with making it easier to sift thru this giant pool of info

CheckTheTape sells a much more plausible scenario than Beaver and would more closely match what the Hyams/LWS/JAV's of the world are selling and being told.
You really aught to try and take CTT at his word in one of his first posts last night, he specifically said...."I dont want to be the dude" and I can assure he is not one of the "dudes". He is simply a Vol fan with an opinion who's playing tiddly winks while the actually "Players and Pieces" are playing a Big Boy game of Chess and Poker !

and while JAV and LWS should be folks to pay attention to, there are at least 10? others that need to be watched also.....Bubba, MIT, AV, etc.....
If anyone by now, after at least 2 weeks of this don't know who those are, they need to read before bringing outlandish opinions like CTT and others.
In fact some might want to consider heading to the peanut gallery where most of us are and enjoy the journey, a journey that is almost over !

Exactly. The ignore feature is for thin-skinned snowflakes that need coloring books, puppies to pet, and playdough when someone disagrees with them.

Ive never used ignore and think its silly.

But no reason to be a prick about it Boca.

But carry on.

Nothing major, but it did grab my attention.

He was asked about Butch and Tennessee. He said Butch could be gone after this weekend or maybe not until the end of season, but he was gone.

Then he was asked about possible candidates. He said Currie understands how important it is to get this right and he believes Currie is working on something big. He rambled off Mullen, Campbell and Strong, but went back to Currie knows who he wants and we'll just have to see.

It was interesting how his tone changed and how he nor the Mikes never brought up Gruden. Not a word.

How was that not brought even as a joke?

Just thought it was interesting.

Interesting. The only thing I can think about the non-Gruden talk is if it isn't talked about maybe it will die down. Kind of like the kneeling protests, etc...where they don't show it on TV and don't talk about it during the broadcasts.

Obviously, the media isn't aware of the avalanche known as Volnation.com. :)

Before the season, I thought the only way Currie made a change is if he has his guy. I hope he does and UT doesn't fire Butch then post the opening on Indeed.com.

People need to lay off OV quick fast and in a hurry.
So what if his posts mislead your hopeful and fragile little heart?
The man has bled for the Big Orange and most likely to this day still feels the pain from doing so.
Show him respect or in the words of the great knucklehead, GTFO!

We know who family is...

Sadly, for us wanting instant results and action, I finally really believe the longer this goes and the quieter Currie is, the better chance this has of happening. Nothing else makes sense now.

I do not like it, but it has become evident that it makes more sense to finish the year with Butch than going the interim way.... especially if there is a good possibility we land Gruden..... Many who worry about the early signing period are only looking short term ... but the AD must look long term.... at least that is where I am right now

Of course my opinion is subject to change with additional information :)

I would assume that they would have to know things in order for their business to survive. I just don't know. I do believe that there are local media that have to tow a line.
