Official Jon Gruden Thread XXV

I’m at a point where I really think Gruden will be the coach.

I’m no insider.

Sunday afternoon and early evening was very telling on the Butch timeline.

After reading every post I am inclined to sit back and let the plan play out.

Over analyzing every single post is just a waste of time for me.

BOT and whatever other meetings taking place this weekend have the feeling of the end but I doubt any announcement will come this weekend.

So I’ll enjoy Halloween and the weekend to come.

Soon!!!

I said a couple of weeks ago on here that I think Currie was first step in this plan (I don't have any sources, just what I read & hear around town). I have wondered if I was wrong & Currie was second step & Bev was first step.

weeelll, she does understand that athletics is the front door to the university.

I think that I understand the "chess pieces" comments now. I understand that "we" the fans can play a pivotal role. This is really bigger than any one group of individuals can accomplish(?). So a group of boosters have had enough and take over power from "the booster". They all agree to get a coach(saban type). The AD is good with all of this. They pitch the idea to the University and they agree because of booster threats. So, this leaves us with the secret society of the academia to say yes or no(?). And all the lawer talk, last night, says that deals have been offered to compensate.
With all that said. Does attendance of this weeks game have an impact on the outcome of this coaching hire?

I believe that it does...but I believe that an empty stadium will have a negative impact.... especially if we miss out on Gruden and have to start competing with 5 or 6 other SEC coaches for a top tier coach.... JMHO

Why would Hyams say that Gruden has 0% chance of coming? I know he is a mouthpiece for the university but if we had Gruden in the bag wouldn’t we want Knoxville media to be hyping him up as a possibility?

We still have a coach. He'd like to remain the mouthpiece...

I missed it...anything of note?

Nothing major, but it did grab my attention.

He was asked about Butch and Tennessee. He said Butch could be gone after this weekend or maybe not until the end of season, but he was gone.

Then he was asked about possible candidates. He said Currie understands how important it is to get this right and he believes Currie is working on something big. He rambled off Mullen, Campbell and Strong, but went back to Currie knows who he wants and we'll just have to see.

It was interesting how his tone changed and how he nor the Mikes never brought up Gruden. Not a word.

How was that not brought even as a joke?

Just thought it was interesting.

Not while we have a sitting head coach. You can't have the state run media pimping out Gruden while Butch is still an employee. These guys are practically co-workers with Butch.

One other observation. The academic elitists might try to marginalize football, but they sure like dipping their hands into the revenue stream. So, there is a dilemma. Do they burn it down and kill the goose? Or help it lay even more golden eggs?

Seems like a no brainer to me. But, on the other hand, these academic types really aren't anywhere close to as smart as they think.

They don't realize that a strong football program would actually help their goal of making UT a top 25 public research university. It would lead to more/better students applying which would allow them to be more selective in who they admit. You can't really expect to be in the top 25 when 70% of applicants get in.

Jon Gruden: 'I’m preparing to come back' to coaching in the NFL

"Gruden said he’s had opportunities to return, but he’s just holding out for the perfect fit. However, he ruled out coaching in college, joking: “I would probably have you on probation within four or five weeks,” because of all the recruiting and NCAA rule challenges."

Well...we can make it really hard for him to say, no. Shouldn't be to hard for him, since he already has his career planned.

Have you spoken with your family member? Any idea what happened sunday night? It's obvious to me that Butch was finished then but something happened. I think you're our best shot at knowing what.

I did. He’s as perplexed as everyone else. Says he doesn’t know what changed but something did. Thinks Butch must be working on something on his end Because as the buyout and contract modifications stood when he left it, Kentucky was it and there was no further compensation discussed of he stayed past then. So, his speciation at this point (and actually makes sense), he thinks Butch has found a new team and is working out something with them and for whatever reason Currie is leaving him in place until then. Which again kind of lines up with the “no suitable interim coach.....giving TN the best shot at a bowl...”, while Currie works on what’s next for TN.

Unfortunately, he’s not involved in the day to day ops and Is used as different counsel for other non-football issues, but was used for legal during the buyout modification and agreement (with others). So, his work was competed last week unless he’s brought back in. As of yet, the agreement stands as they left it last week.

FTR - I am FULL Grude, but.........

What if Gruden IS the smokescreen? It would provide the perfect cover. I also wonder how many UT fans would truly be upset if he doesn't come here. Since I hang out in here almost all the time, I'd think that number was around 100%, but then I see people that dare venture out of the Gruden thread and I hear horror stories, so my viewpoint may be skewed..

Combination but less on the side of assumption.

So you have a pretty good idea of what’s going on then. If you had to guess why have the betting odds on Gruden moved all the way down 2.5/1, while every other candidate stays the same odds? I mean they have to know something right?
