Dan Mullen thread (merged)

I know its why we play the game smartass, haha. You've been jumping on everybody pretty good lately, and I agree with you 8 out of 10 times, but those 2, well, I just thought I'd let you know I think you're brave. :)

Nobody is right at this point. Not the Pumpervols or the Negavols. We could tank at 5-7 or get on a run at 10-2 or anywhere in between. Alot of oxygen and server space over nothing at this point.

I'll take smartass from you, better than dumbass. :)

Oh I know what you're basing it on, and if I "had" to bet, I'd bet the same. But I don't have to and I'm glad I don't because I just don't know.

I never said Mullen was terrible, good Lord. I've only said that if we fire Butch, I hope we can hire better than him. Who? I don't know, I just hope we can do a lot better.

I was speaking to the relative air of this thread. I'm not for going after Mullen as a first choice after butch is gone, but I do think Mullen is a better coach than Butch.

What a dumb thread.

His record is not very good, but maybe he's still an elite coach.

The majority really wants a coach that gets taken to the wood shed by a team that is a rival of ours... No thank you I'm sticking with CBJ until his last day here

I never said it’s a slight to Butch at all. Where did you get that from? I’ve been very clear that Butch can recruit to Tennessee with the best of anyone. However, he doesn’t take that talent and develop them.

I never said Mullen could recruit better than anybody. I simply said that all it takes is a reasonable effort, along with Tennessee selling itself, and anyone could recruit here. Dooley put zero effort into recruiting while here and still ended up with an average of the #13 class. The only thing that Butch has done well here is recruiting. However, it’s not like he has a secret formula to do it.

Go back to my original point of pursuing Mullen. I said that he would have better talent at Tennessee and weaker competition. If he put the same effort into recruiting at Tennessee as he does in Starkville, he would get top 10 classes easily.

That’s not a slight to Butch. Have no idea where you pulled that from. You said that because I proved you wrong about Tennessee selling itself and you got offended by it for Butch.

Come back to us discussing Mullen!!

Oh it existed but after the Georgia game tonight they all running like roaches when the light turns on.

These fans are insane.

Let's say he is a decent coach....its still moot because he makes top 10 salary and he doesn't need to win constantly at MSU, so how much does it cost to get him? lol

These fans are insane and they don't understand basic math.

Other than having to spend your life in Starkville, Mullen has a great gig. Don't know why he'd leave. Reminds me of Cutcliffe at Duke.

agree, and last night doesn't really change anything on Mullen's resume.

it's still all relative. they lost a road game to what looks to be a pretty good GA team with a good defense and offensive weapons that anyone would want on their team.

MSU's season didn't end las tnight, and they're still probably on track to not finish dead last (as predicted) in the west, with games agaisnt Ole Miss, aTm and ARK still up coming. plus KY, and whatever OOC games they have left.

He might have the greatest gig in all of football on any level. :) He gets top 10 pay or near it, he can lose and still get a pay raise and an extension. He'll probably get a huge raise just for beating LSU this year.

He has a super duper great setup. Win 5-8 games a year, every 5-7 years win 9 or so.... keep collecting paychecks all the way to the bank... no fans yelling at you... no reporters asking stupid questions. Great gig.

Since it's been scrolling across the espn ticker all night.. Thought we should add this nugget:

"The bulldogs are 2-14 in ranked vs ranked matchup under Dan Mullen, the worst such win percentage by a head coach in the AP Poll era (min. 15 games).
