Dan Mullen thread (merged)

Dooley averaged #13 ranked classes in his time here. And he basically did everything to not recruit.

And once again, he wouldn’t be playing UGA with a roster made up of a majority of 3 stars.

He would have a roster with majority of 4/5 stars. Hence, better talent against weaker competition. Trading Auburn, LSU, and A&M for Vandy, South Carolina, and Mizzou is a swap of tougher competition for weaker competition.

6-22 against top 25
5th place finish in the West 5 of 8 years.

Those things suggest he’s losing games he should be winning.

So, he has a majority of 3 stars... they beat Akron 17-16 in last years bowl. How is that any better than Butch and co. Today ?

Worst part about all of this, for me anyway. I'm not sold on thinking we lose to them both. We probably should, but who the F knows? We could beat both then lose to Mizz and SMU.

It really is frustrating. But I know you know that.

Nothing is ever certain, but if I had to make a bet right now, based off of what I have seen over the last 4.3 seasons, I bet on losing both.

My comment was mainly for this idea that GA whipping MSU means Mullen is terrible. If we lose to both GA and LSU , what does that say about Mullen considering we lost to both and he split them? Is he still terrible?

It's why we play the game Behr. We could go 5-7 or 10-2. Nobody knows untill it plays out. No reason to moan untill then.

Nobodys right at this point.

Nobodys wrong at this point.

I know its why we play the game smartass, haha. You've been jumping on everybody pretty good lately, and I agree with you 8 out of 10 times, but those 2, well, I just thought I'd let you know I think you're brave. :)

Dooley recruiting rankings are proof you shouldn't pay money for that ****. Those were full of grossly overrated kids.

So you’re admitting you’re wrong on the Tennessee sells itself point I made? You went out of your way to talk about Dooley. I pointed out where you were wrong and now you’re moving to another point?

Also, he develops players. Butch doesn’t.

What? Your babbling now.

Because Dooley couldn’t develop players and was only at UT for the paycheck. And sadly, neither can Butch. Mullen does.

Yea that's real funny. NFL turnover and 8 new coaches. A top 10 2018 recruiting class coming in and a 2019 top 5 recruiting class coming in!

Hey Bearded, how's Mullen doing tonight?

8 new coaches? You mean 5? And who cares how well he is recruiting, we had consecutive top ten classes in '14 and '15. How's that working out right now?

Be serious dude. You said Dooley was proof Tennessee doesn’t sell itself in recruiting. The guy tried to destroy our recruiting yet averaged the #13 class in 3 years. So yes Tennessee does sell itself. You said it didn’t and I proved you wrong.

Don’t bother. Orange thinks we are going 9-3/8-4 this year. Even after today’s showing

You didn’t prove anything. This isn’t 1998, TN does not sell itself. I’m sorry. It doesn’t.

Dude once again, you said Tennessee doesn’t sell itself and your main detail to that claim was to look at Dooley.

He averaged the #13 class each year while putting zero effort into recruiting. Hate to break it to you, but Tennessee does indeed sell itself.

Unless you think Butch’s rare wristwatch collection sells Tennessee?

Oh I know what you're basing it on, and if I "had" to bet, I'd bet the same. But I don't have to and I'm glad I don't because I just don't know.

I never said Mullen was terrible, good Lord. I've only said that if we fire Butch, I hope we can hire better than him. Who? I don't know, I just hope we can do a lot better.

Not to mention that prominent high school coaches hated Dooley.

Are really that blind in your hatred for Butch? He recruits circles around Mullen. It kills you to admit it because it damages your argument that Mullen would be a slam dunk hire here. You push the “TN sells itself” as an attempt to dismiss Butch’s success.

I never said it’s a slight to Butch at all. Where did you get that from? I’ve been very clear that Butch can recruit to Tennessee with the best of anyone. However, he doesn’t take that talent and develop them.

I never said Mullen could recruit better than anybody. I simply said that all it takes is a reasonable effort, along with Tennessee selling itself, and anyone could recruit here. Dooley put zero effort into recruiting while here and still ended up with an average of the #13 class. The only thing that Butch has done well here is recruiting. However, it’s not like he has a secret formula to do it.

Go back to my original point of pursuing Mullen. I said that he would have better talent at Tennessee and weaker competition. If he put the same effort into recruiting at Tennessee as he does in Starkville, he would get top 10 classes easily.

That’s not a slight to Butch. Have no idea where you pulled that from. You said that because I proved you wrong about Tennessee selling itself and you got offended by it for Butch.
