Peyton is the wildcard in all this. He's retired and will be watching the Vols closely on Saturdays now. He doesn't want to suffer through another 5 years of a little dick coach.

Barb disagrees 😏🍌

What's the mitigation clause?

When he leaves the mitigation clause in his contract requires that he seek work and any pay he receives from that job is deducted from the payout he''s due from UT.

So, in theory, if he somehow found a job that paid him the same salary he's making now then UT would owe him nothing.

Why would we drop that? That's a pretty standard clause. No reason at all to drop it. In fact, it's unreasonable to ask that it be dropped.

Unreasonable to ask? I don't think that is a concept Sexton knows.

That's a fine tactic when you're negotiating for someone a school desperately wants to keep. Not so much when it's for someone they want gone and the season is already ruined.

Apparently it's not standard practice for head coaching contracts. Hart did really well to throw that in on Butch's original deal.

Metalvolunteer...Share your thoughts in here about Gruden.

He’s been posting over here sometimes making fun of us Grudenites but he just posted over in the Gruden thread he spoke with some former players that think it might be happening.

Hmmm

My guess is the mitigation clause only includes a head coaching position, which he may not get. He could become an analyst and still get his buyout. "Actively seeking a head coach position" is up for interpretation. There is actually an incentive for both sides to negotiate a guaranteed lump sum buyout. Just depends on what it is.

His contract specifically mentions head coach and assistant coach (either college of professional) as well as athletics administrator at a college or university. Its in section 3.14 of his contract.
