You make a compelling case for your reasoning. Don't agree and that's OK. You based most of it on Mullen's W/L. It's apples to oranges no matter how you analyze it. It totally removes program, facilities, tradition, recruiting base. You realize UT's historical winning % is .680, right? That means they win almost 7 games out of 10, right? Butch is 4.5 years in at .569. 1.25 more wins per year at Butch's level would be very significant and even more so above UT's historical average. We play in the SECCG last season and possibly the season before had that happened. Alabama is just around .723 even after Saban's run. "Yeah...not much."
You all are all overthinking it. If gruden wants the job it's his. Period.
It's actually a huge difference. What would you think if Butch had been to 4 straight bowls and had won 10 games in 2015?
Just go by SEC records if you want to really compare.
To answer a few questions about Atlanta Vols post:
He indicated the Currie hire was not popular among a majority of the big donors. But one big donor basically forced the Currie hire.
He was asked if that same big donor could block a Gruden hire.
He responded by indicating while he technically could he doesn't see it happening that way. Mainly in part because of a effort by someone one to pull the big donors together because a failure in the possible pending coaching search could lead to several of the big donors walking.
Atlanta Vol (or anyone else) if I said something that's incorrect feel free to correct it and I apologize in advance.
Now others (not Atlanta Vol) the big booster giving the problems could be Big Jim Haslam or Charlie Anderson.
Also speculation the about Peyton being the person pulling everyone together.
May be the biggest SPENDER tho. Is there a list?
SEC records are still not an accurate comparison.
Tennessee is a top 3 school in the division and expected to compete for titles every year. Easier division.
MSU is the worst school in their division and, historically speaking, winning more than 2 SEC games in a year is a great season for the program. Harder division.
So, Im done with the Mullen talk. Im not going to Bruin a dead horse. Ive said my peas, stated my case. Hopefully we dont have to find out if Im right with some epic bump in 5 years, like the Cincinnati Butch post the other day lol
