Im not Chief but this is what he asked.

Any reason to believe the one you speak of will find a way to blow this next hire up? Not sure why some of the power players can't tell him to kick rocks

Thanks. That’s good he doesn’t think so but worrisome that he could.

You make a compelling case for your reasoning. Don't agree and that's OK. You based most of it on Mullen's W/L. It's apples to oranges no matter how you analyze it. It totally removes program, facilities, tradition, recruiting base. You realize UT's historical winning % is .680, right? That means they win almost 7 games out of 10, right? Butch is 4.5 years in at .569. 1.25 more wins per year at Butch's level would be very significant and even more so above UT's historical average. We play in the SECCG last season and possibly the season before had that happened. Alabama is just around .723 even after Saban's run. "Yeah...not much."

That 1.25 win increase is including Kiffin and Dooley.

If we want to compare Butch at TN and Mullen it’s really really close.

Like I said, I don’t expect to convince many, but I’ve laid out my argument. Anyone can feel free to counter, and I won’t angry to them :hi:

It's speculation based on what many who are close to the program have said in the past. And that is, big Jim Haslam calls the shots up there. So I would have to assume he's the one who blew up the Blackburn hire.

I don't believe you are correct based on what AV said.

You all are all overthinking it. If gruden wants the job it's his. Period.

Well I would have to think so. But based on what many have said over the years about Haslam I think there would at least be a little cause for concern that he might try to stop it because he knows Gruden wouldn't coddle his cods. People like big Jim seem to like control and to be bowed down to, so to speak.

To answer a few questions about Atlanta Vols post:

He indicated the Currie hire was not popular among a majority of the big donors. But one big donor basically forced the Currie hire.

He was asked if that same big donor could block a Gruden hire.

He responded by indicating while he technically could he doesn't see it happening that way. Mainly in part because of a effort by someone one to pull the big donors together because a failure in the possible pending coaching search could lead to several of the big donors walking.

Atlanta Vol (or anyone else) if I said something that's incorrect feel free to correct it and I apologize in advance.

Now others (not Atlanta Vol) speculate the big booster giving the problems could be Big Jim Haslam or Charlie Anderson.

Also speculation the about Peyton being the person pulling everyone together.

Thank you for the responses :hi:

I hope the boosters can come together and keep pushing for a united front. I also hope the rumors that Peyton working on that issue are true. I could see him being the glue to hold everyone together.

It's actually a huge difference. What would you think if Butch had been to 4 straight bowls and had won 10 games in 2015?

Just go by SEC records if you want to really compare.

SEC records are still not an accurate comparison.

Tennessee is a top 3 school in the division and expected to compete for titles every year. Easier division.

MSU is the worst school in their division and, historically speaking, winning more than 2 SEC games in a year is a great season for the program. Harder division.

This is right

May be the biggest SPENDER tho. Is there a list?

Ergen is 28 on Forbes most wealthy Americans. He probably does have twice as much as the Haslam's, but the Haslam's is split up between 3 or more. Jimmy and Bill are both much further down the list.

But you are right about spending. The Haslam's may give more. Big Jim gave $50 million to the business school in 2014. They agreed to name the business school after him.

So, I’m done with the Mullen talk. I’m not going to Bruin a dead horse. I’ve said my peas, stated my case. Hopefully we don’t have to find out if I’m right with some epic bump in 5 years, like the Cincinnati Butch post the other day lol

In relation to Atl Vol level of giving if you’re wondering

He said in another thread what his ball park donations were. I'm not going to repeat them but he indicated he gives a very large cash donation and larger non-cash donations to the university. Thank you Atlanta Vol!

While I can't disagree, it's actually more balanced considering UT's permanent rival is Bama and MSU's permanent rival is Kentucky. UT has played the #1 team in the west every year Mullen has been there. UT has only lost to Kentucky once in about 30 years. Plus, Mullen started before expansion so it was even more balanced then.

Some people like candidates more than others. Makes the search fun 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻

Beverly Davenport blackballed the Blackburn hire. She didn't think he was a strong candidate and she wanted a sitting P5 AD. Several power players wanted someone with Tennessee ties. John Currie was the compromise candidate. The vote wasn't unanimous and he still has fences to mend.
