If the deal was so big that any coach in the country would take it, then why go from Gruden down to Frost as second option? Seems like I'd make someone else say no first.

Be like shopping for a Ferrari, they didn't have the one you wanted, so you go buy a Prius.
Get A Lamborghini or settle for a Corvette.

Take it for what its worth but I talked to 2 very reliable sources today and also received a screenshot from a guy with heavy pockets. Gruden was the #1 target, but turned down the 1st offer and the BOT/Currie counter offered with a BIG deal that would be taken by most any coach around the country. Gruden came back and said NO again, then explained he has a lot of friends in Knoxville a s associated with UT, and he's rather keep his friends than take the job and ruin friendships. The next target is supposedly going to be Frost.

So Currie and the BOT are formally negotiating a position that is still currently filled?

Does anyone think Currie is trying to prove a point to UT admin and boosters about how bad it can get, and how low attendance can be if they don't get this right?

I for one can't pretend to know. I think in his mind he wants to give the appearance of doing everything right so that a top tier coach doesn't frown on us. If Jones is let go soon, a coaching hire wouldn't be named for a couple of week, maybe longer (just my opinion). If he goes through the entire season, a coach will be named quickly.

I have heard nothing much that is of any interest. Late last week I was told “we think it will be after the bama game”. That was by someone who has the position to hear such things. Well that did not happen obviously so we are left to wait. I do believe based upon what I have been told it is when not if. I know a lot of people’s emotions are running high and are desperate to see or hear something from John. I also can fall into that need for immediate gratification especially after loosing to bama. The third Saturday in October is a very special time for me and for the first time in my life I didn’t even care about the game. At this point I believe he has a plan and is doing what he needs to properly carry it out. As I have said this time around I just don’t have line of sight on who the coach will be. I hope John doesn’t prove me wrong as I have to believe in him because I have no belief in Butch.

Thanks for posting and responding to my questions.... I truly hope Gruden is Not off the list but truthfully don?t think anyone knows for sure....

Saw where other VFLs believe Gruden would accept an offer and some here say he turned us down twice .... difficult to know because I think it is all speculation as the AD is tight

Hopefully the VOLS win this one.... we sure need a win and something to go right

So not a good list?

So board of trustees scraped together enough money to to offer Gruden "a BIG deal that would be taken by most any coach around the country." And, when he said no, they jumped straight to Frost? Hum?

If it was "a BIG deal that would be taken by most any coach around the country" do you not think it might have occurred to them to offer it to some other bigger name?

Not sure but man I'm afraid many don't understand Frost is probably a better option than most we could name. I think it was try to big bang and if all else fails we go bk to the drawing board.

I could see that scenario with Gruden, as long as an agreement has been reached between Currie and Jones. What Conley is saying actually makes very logical sense and matches what either Larry or JAV said.
