Noticed greazy in the gruden thread saying Butch will finish out the season and likey be back next. 🤣

Well he’s the uncle of one of our players...:hmm:

Has to be better than the known commode doody.

Been waiting to drop that one...saving it like Butch and the good plays.

Of course that is correct. But long term could that offense reliably work against SEC defenses? I can't think of when it's really been tested except the 2011 BCS title game when Auburn held Oregon to like 23 points.

SEC defenses are faster and bigger than anything Oregon used to face, and are of course bigger than anything UCF faces. I guess the counterargument is that he'd have faster and bigger players running the offense if he were at UT, but I just can't picture that offense consistently working against Saban, Kirby, Muschamp, Florida, LSU, etc. The defenses in the SEC are just too good for that scheme.

The only thing that I’d add (I’m pro Frost ftr) is the note on an article about his offense. He spreads the passes around to a LOT of receivers and his offense is run first. Sound familiar? :)

Yes to paragraph 1. He doesn't have to say "regardless." He can just say something along the lines of what I quoted in my OP. Just has to get the point across that CBJ will be evaluated at season end. That doesn't put an end to the speculation of who replaces him, but it does at least put an end to the speculation of "will today be the day" which has occurred basically every day since UGA. He can still change his mind and fire him mid-season if he chooses. All the statement does is quiet some of the noise and take a little bit of the daily dark clouds away so that the focus can be on the games and winning/losing.

Which leads into my point on Paragraph 2. Yes, hiring the right replacement is goal #1, but salvaging the best season possible in 2017 is also a huge goal. The best way an AD can impact that is to try and clear as much air as possible so that there isn't as much toxicity around the team and players.

Unless he says "we are evaluating the situation after individual games" thats exactly what he plans to do until otherwise noted. Unless Jones gives him no other option (loses complete control of the locker room), and he knows for sure that replacing him mid season is gonna guarantee a better finish he may not see the advantage at this point. And if he doesn't he rides it out, even tho he knows how the story ends.

Essentially, he can't say anything to fix the toxicity. Its gonna require actions that fix the problem current and long term. He may not see anything a move that makes 2017 finish better.

I would have been fine with him being axed after UF or even UMass. My opinion hasn't changed since earlier in his tenure, but the next hire is the goal.

Not sure on Morris. No to Doeren and Campbell. Starting to get turned off by Durkin as well. He's done nothing to show he can win here. I'll believe the Gruden stuff when I see it, not looking like any of the other top names are coming, so I'm thinking Frost far the best, realistic choice.

Question is, is it all wishful thinking? One issue is RT went to Vandy. Would wonder if it was to troll us or if he bleeds orange regardless.

He is, at the least, a UT fan. He posted pics of his UT sneakers. I don't doubt that he is who he says he is. There's been enough proof of that, methinks. I think he is just either trolling, or has been given some bad info.

Morris is 11-19

Don't want but the thing that would help me get over it with him compared to dooley and Butch is his success on offense at Clemson. He has much more to sell to recruits coming in than Butch Or Dooley. There is a bit more validity to him that he can X and O in his own. He would need a great defensive hire.

I suspect he will stick around TX area though. For future jobs. That's his stomping grounds.

Morris is still a little too green for me.

I could sell myself on Campbell especially if he can pull out another upset down the stretch.

A poster in the FF has an interesting take on this- that the holdup is another landing spot for Butch and that deal isn't completed yet, hence the reason Butch is still here- even though everyone including Butch wants to be somewhere else.

I've got a place for him; at home. On the couch, in the bathroom, in the garage, in the backyard, on the roof, or anywhere else that isn't affiliated with the University of Tennessee.

I really don't care where he is, so long as he's not the head coach.

The hubris he's displaying by sticking around and not falling on his sword is astounding.

You suck, Butch. Resign. Negotiate a buyout and GTFO.

His offense isn't 100% Oregons offense. It has a lot of the same principles but he has also added his own wrinkles and influences. For the spread to keep working it has to constantly evolve. Frost is the type of coach that won't stick with a system that isn't working. He will evolve, and the offense will evolve.

Also, outside of the offense aspect, look at the defense. Frost has spent time on both sides of the ball and credits Monte Kiffin, Raheem Morris and Mike Tomlin about his pride for defense as well. UCF is ranked 30th in Total Defense. Pretty good overall and with better athletes it can be even better.

He can win in the SEC, IMO.

Need to get this off my mind once and for all because it matters for who they choose as the next "legacy" coach at the football program I love.

If they hire a coach that wants to be a coaching conference motivational speaker again, I'm done listening to any interviews or pressers. I cringe every time I hear his words like the "best staff in America" and "the system is infallible" that started it all off to the resiliency, complimentary football, champions of anything but football, etc. We don't need a cliche machine that talks down to the fanbase and feels like he needs to educate the uneducated. I am no fan of the media, but he deserves every flaming he receives with his BS. There are dozens of posters on here and personal coaching friends that know as much or more of what the real world is with this football team than he does. He needs to man up and accept a reasonable buy-out, call Two Men and a Truck, load up the family, and head back to Meeeshegan.

I am appreciative of his real desire to embrace Vol tradition, energy and enthusiasm spent toward building a competitive roster, and APR improvement. However, he missed out on the greatest opportunity he will ever have to be at the top as a coach because he simply cannot get out of his own way and personally grow as a leader and at the game of football. It's just not in his DNA. If he gets back in he needs to drop back a couple of steps.

Once again I agree with everything Vols4us said.

I haven't watched any of UCFs games, do they run a spread?

And it can't be any worse than what we have now. I miss the pro style offenses we used to have. Love the single back and I formations

He doesn’t run those. It’s more like Malzahn’s offense.
