I think 3 bowl wins and having us in conversations to get to the SEC Championship game is much better than sitting at home and having no postseason success.

My point is simply this: they are both bad in-game coaches who are in over their head in the SEC. I didn't say Dooley or Kiffin were better-- I just think a team that can field an offense is more fun to watch. You're of a different opinion, and that's cool.

Just like Alabama, and USC, and Georgia, and UMass, and Florida...

I don't think it's a no brainer, but I actually would back UT at that number.

Def not a no brainer but I do like the number better than those games mentioned.

Butch always kicks UK in the ass and UK is a bit over hyped imo

I believe Currie wants a smooth transition to occur, and that is the only reason Butch is our coach

Would anyone be okay with Butch staying on staff as a Special teams coach & recruiting coordnaitor.

I don't want any candidate who is afraid of taking a job where his predecessor got 5 years to win a weak division and never broke 8 wins in a regular season.

That's a ridiculously long leash for a program like Tennessee.

Gary Patterson went 6-7 last year, and while I know he has built a lot of equity, virtually all prospects out there will want to know they have some reasonable degree of security. I think as long as an 8-4 regular season is still mathematically possible, Butch Jones is our coach. I also think, as some have suggested, that he could finish out the year at 8-4 and still have a mutual parting of ways at the end of the season. In fact, it seems this latter part is the ideal situation the UT admin is hoping for.

UT is more talented than UK at every position, but IMO, the team that wants it more will win. Right now, that edge probably goes to UK.

We're not talking about going 6-7 once. We're talking about giving a guy 5 years to win a bad (actually, terrible) East and never break 8 regular season wins. Not once. And his team got WORSE in year 5.

There is no coach in America worth a damn who is afraid of following Butch Jones and the long leash he got at Tennessee. The precedent we set with his ridiculously long leash and celebrations over mundane accomplishments will actually be hugely beneficial in this coaching search. Guys will know they can come in and not feel any real heat until year 3 at the earliest.

And while Dooley was terrible, it was nice to see a TD now and then. They're both bad gameday coaches.

We got plenty of touchdowns, and so did the other teams.

Disclaimer, when I talked about a moving Van, it was because of the Bill Battle thing. Finebaum apparently was involved with that. Don't be hating.

Butch helped get us out of the hell hole dug by Mike Hamilton, Lane Kiffin and Derek Dooley. But now that we are back to winning over 50 percent of our games, we realize that the Tennessee that we all knew and loved did not lose always lose to Bama, Georgia and Florida. With Kirby taking the Bulldogs up another notch, we need to take the next step to get back to the Tennessee of old.

You got it, man-- I think Butch is right down there in Super Suckland with Dooley. He is absolutely abhorrent at in-game coaching, player development, personnel management, media relations and putting a team of 4* and 5* players in a position to win championships despite the generous resources at his discretion. He can recruit and keep the academics up, but when it comes to winning championships in the SEC, I think he's an epic fail just like Dooley.

From an actual football coach standpoint, Dooley was better IMO. Think Jones was just a far superior recruiter.

I'm not saying I don't agree with you, I want him gone yesterday too (actually, since the Florida game). I am trying to look at it objectively. We see it one way as Orange Blooded Vol fans, but it may appear different to the outside world. When a guy can say he's had 3 straight Bowl wins at a program for the first time in 20 years, and he's fired when a 4th straight bowl win in who knows how many years is still on the table, its bad form. I'm not okay with that, but I can see why they may be waiting until that 5th loss. Then they can say he has taken a step back, and must go.

As far as turning around a program Frost fits the bill. 0-12 to undefeated and avg 30 pt margin of victory in 2 seasons. Young and top notch pedigree. Would be a grand slam.

Dooley’s final year was actually going better than Butch’s to this point. Same record I believe but much more competitive and his losses were all to ranked teams.

Crazy

I'll roll with LWS until given a reason not to. Hopefully we get lucky and Frost is the guy. I'm confident Brohm can get it done as well. Morris, Campbell, Durkin, & Norvell are just as likely to be bums as Dooley and Butch were, although I'd take any of them over keeping Butch for another season.

It's frustrating but we're not going to get any of the big names we want and it feels like a waste of time to entertain the idea.

Start talking yourselves into Norvell or Morris as head coach.

I'm to the point that if we end up with anyone other than the big names and Frost, I'm going to be pissed. Put the full court press on Frost and get him up here.

I'd be fine if Butch stayed as special teams coach and recruiting coordinator, but does anyone do that? (They should, especially when you are having to pay a buy out..)
