We are at risk of missing a bowl though. Look at what we have left:
UK: ?
Southern Miss: should win
Missouri: ?
LSU: loss, IMO
Vandy: ?
Sure we can make a bowl but its definitely an uphill climb. I dont think we can win 2/3 of those question makes games.
It could be a perception thing as well. Some candidates may have expressed cold feet in regards to job security. If the UT admin waits until it's mathematically impossible to avoid taking a step back (i.e. 5 losses), it could be making a statement to allay those concerns. It's hard to tell what has been said behind closed doors and in back-channel communications.
Does it really matter whether or not he has someone on the hook already? It's inevitable that we're going to be looking for another head coach either way.

He beats TCU and his name skyrockets. Heck of a coach. Pats organization tried to get him before became Toledo HC. He was Urbans top OC target at Ohio st before Herman but he turned it down.
I don't know his Recruiting background and connections though. He may be in the right spot for himself already. Only SEC school I could see him being a fit at is KY with him being in the OH area for so long at Toldeo.
Frost should be out #1 of that tier. He is building connections in Florida to fit his offense.
Scott Frost stat for you..... Mariota and Vernon Adams finished #1 in country in 2014 and 2015 for QB passing efficiency. Milton his current QB is #2 in country.
Yep I think his system is QB friendly
I don't want any candidate who is afraid of taking a job where his predecessor got 5 years to win a weak division and never broke 8 wins in a regular season.
That's a ridiculously long leash for a program like Tennessee.
I agree. If it was me, hed have been fired already.
But I can understand some of the arguments for not pulling the trigger quite yet also. I dont like them and having Butch as our HC still frustrates the hell out of me. But there are still some reasons for it at this point.
Im personally in the fire him now camp. I think it would be not only important for the new coach to evaluate his new team and the young players to get the extra practice, but it would be a good way to send out any seniors who are dealing with a miserable end to their UT careers. Id say 99% of coaches that are worth any salt realize that Butch just isnt a good coach and UT was right in firing him, so I dont believe the perception issue. I think the only reason Butch is still here is because of the buyout money. JMO.
The one and only reason I could see why they haven't pulled the trigger yet, is they're just trying to sweat him out in order to lower the buyout.
