In that case, he’ll probably take an assistant role, maybe NFL ST coordinator or something... something that takes pressure off of being a HC

If he really wants to take a rest, his contract also allows him to receive his buyout if he’s hired as an administrator at a college.

You'd be silly not to try. He obviously loves Tennessee so you at least need to throw the Hail Mary.

But that's what it is. A *massive* Hail Mary. There's lots of good options for the Vols, and I don't want people putting all their eggs in the Gruden basket. Get pissed when Coach Satterfield or Coach Bobo take the podium. Otherwise, let's see it play out.

I haven't seen any person in this forum who would get pissed if we hired a good coach that was not Gruden.

I am skeptical for sure. Reports that Currie is a cloak and dagger guy using a gas station fax don't really jibe with all these leaks. Smokescreen for Frost imo.

I think if Gruden wants to coach it's almost now or never for him. The further he gets away from the last time he's coached, the harder it will be for him to return. It's going on 10 years now.

and if he wants to coach in college--the VOLS trump the rest of them. He loves him some VOLS and isn't shy about saying it.

Very uncharacteristic of me last night.

The wife and I stopped into Chick fil a last night instead of cooking.

I was a little cold out so I put on my half zip UT jacket on.

Manger (mid 30’s) brings out food and notices jacket.

Manager- How is UT going to do this weekend.

Me – I don’t think we are going to have a good day. Might get ugly (just making small talk with a smile)

Manager- Yea (**** eating grin) I’m a bama fan.

Me- Well that’s good, looks like you all have another great team. (Still smiling)

Manager- Yep roll tide, Rammer Jammer (another **** eating grin)

Me- (Getting a little annoyed at this point and about to put his fanhood to test) You know, my wife and I were just talking about how good Alabama is and trying to figure out who the coach was before Saban. Who was it?

Manager- You know, I can’t remember

Me- Yea, me neither. Saban has done a great job. Who was the qb on your last National Championship team?

Manager- You know I can’t remember

Me- Take that bandwagon **** out of here.

Wife- I’m very sorry sir (staring a death stare right at me)

Works every single time. Well done.

This goes along with that as well:

You would think after 10 years, he has gone over 1,000 given scenarios and knows what he does and does not want. I don’t buy that he doesn’t know if he wants to coach college ball. In fact, he has stated that he does NOT. This isn’t some fresh idea from out of left field

He knows this program and team in a good enough way to decide. If it’s not money, he just doesn’t want to coach in college. They may throw the monies, but if he doesn’t want to be in college, we don’t want him, because it takes full investment. Yes, I know Butch was dying for this job.

No.1: Settle on 5 guys up front and go with it. Tatum isn't strong enough yet and shouldn't be starting.

No.2: Is the QB, should've started JG week 1 and grew him within the offense(Kill the he wasn't ready noise it's DEAD to me).

No.3: Open up the playbook and stop spreading the field to be conservative.

No.4: Use players to do what they do well. Josh Smith should work the medium routes and should be the slot man period. Would provide a great veteran target for a young QB. Callaway should be featured like a true No.1. Brandon Johnson should be complimentary not a bell cow of this offense. Use the TE more. Use Ty Chandler more as well.

No.5: Simplify the defense and bench Jumper. Play Bituli, Ignont(he was immediately noticeable when he came in late in a game earlier this year) and Sapp. Also Kyle Phillips should be starting opposite Taylor. Kongbo just isn't the freak show at DE they say he is.

Why Brandon Johnson should be a complimentary? It should show u how great he is that he know the whole play book on this offense to where u can put him at slot..Maybe it tells u that Callaway and Smith are only limited at what they can do..Be greatful that he is contributing at this high level and to be honest his stats should be higher than that if it wasn't for GTECH game and the drop he had against Umass.. Majority of the balls was thrown behind him during the GTECH game....Brandon should be the number 1 guy anyways..I agree with u on the slot position I want him to play on the outside..Thats the only thing I agree on..

I just don't think Gruden would want the headache of recruiting. I am concerned that he hasn't coached for what 10 yrs? That's a lot of rust to have to kick off. Just not as convinced as some of you that he is savior of UT football. To be honest, not sure who would be. I do agree with many of you that we do need a proven coach just not sure who that would be.

Posted a story earlier about a toll booth worker in Tuscaloosa who sneered and said “Roll Tide” as I was driving off. I commend your quick wits, sir.

His name is Scott Frost

Fellas, take it away!

I thought the same thing this morning. I know for a fact they've contacted Frost so I don't buy LWS saying we're only talking to Gruden.

Also, something tells me we've all been paying attention to the wrong Clemson coordinator. Might be time to bring Tony Elliott's name into the mix.

No thank you on hiring a coordinator. There are way too many proven head coaches out there… We should be able to land one of them.

I am less excited about actually landing Gruden as I am about what a unified, and funded effort to land him signifies. IMO that fact is not discussed enough.

Great point! I agree with what Involuntary has mentioned… I think Peyton is heavily involved now that he is retired, and is probably swinging his weight around a lot. Not only does he have the money, but I am sure many of the power boosters respect him because of who he is and the fact he is a legend in Knoxville.

For the 10,000th, Gruden isn't going to be the next coach here.

LWS is smoking something or just fanning the flames.

Sure, whatever.
