I do think if Gruden coaches CFB, he'll come to UT. The connection is there. But there's that Peyton element, too-- the Grudens love being loved in Knoxville and I'm sure they want to keep it that way.

If he decides to coach college ball it is 100% at Tennessee

If a change is made. You make sure Gruden doesn't want the job.

What I have said this week is that I don't know if Gruden wants to coach. I have read his quotes from earlier this year that he's preparing to return to coaching. In that same article he said he didn't see himself coaching in college.

So for me before you talk about whether the Vols would pay, give control, etc. The biggest question is does Gruden want to coach.

-Hubbs

"Tea leaves" to me suggest that the Gruden thing is real and Currie is really focusing on him big time right now. Sticking point is, of course, whether Gruden actually wants to take the job.

If it was completely unrealistic or the work of some dedicated trolls then Hubbs would squash it. But he's entertaining the possibility.

I went drinking with a friend from out of town and apparently missed a hell of a show. I browse pretty quick, but can anyone comfirm my cliff notes are complete.

Butch has reached an agreement to resign? Maybe.

But eb4h reached for ecred on that fact and got caught?

Other more trusted sources are not saying Gruden is hired but UT is heavy petting with him?

And their junk is shaped like an eggplant.

I think Butch just got exhausted

Remember when he would track the miles run during practice and sleep by players?

From this, to the point to where players basically workout if they want to and a locker room without discipline.

I truly think he just wore himself out, let go of some things, and here we are.

I bet he takes time off from coaching to recalibrate

Could be possible. "If it kills me it kills me", guess it just made him exhausted instead. I kinda feel bad for him tho, he did a lot for us and it seems most fans hate him

Ive seen two posters on here literally say they hate him, which makes me SMH.

I think given a little time, he will be looked upon generally favorably as the beginning of the upward turn of UT football.

Not everyone can be “the man”, and based on who we were in the market for in 2012, he stepped in, and was probably the better option.

I can't speak for other fans, but I have supported him all along. I wish him well in his future endeavors, but it is obvious that something hasen't been right for the past two seasons. I do not have all the answers as to why it hasn't been working, but the bottom line is that it is time to move on.

Just curious what position/scheme wise do you think could’ve helped this year

No.1: Settle on 5 guys up front and go with it. Tatum isn't strong enough yet and shouldn't be starting.

No.2: Is the QB, should've started JG week 1 and grew him within the offense(Kill the he wasn't ready noise it's DEAD to me).

No.3: Open up the playbook and stop spreading the field to be conservative.

No.4: Use players to do what they do well. Josh Smith should work the medium routes and should be the slot man period. Would provide a great veteran target for a young QB. Callaway should be featured like a true No.1. Brandon Johnson should be complimentary not a bell cow of this offense. Use the TE more. Use Ty Chandler more as well.

No.5: Simplify the defense and bench Jumper. Play Bituli, Ignont(he was immediately noticeable when he came in late in a game earlier this year) and Sapp. Also Kyle Phillips should be starting opposite Taylor. Kongbo just isn't the freak show at DE they say he is.

Now that we're moving in that direction, we could still end up with the 2nd best overall record in the East.

We're gonna make Gruden say no, all the chips in the basket on this.

We have the pieces in place, and Gruden knows our roster very well. I would let this play out. I still don't see it happening because I just don't think he wants to coach college ball. But I have been wrong before.

There have been rumors of unrest between assistant coaches and I could see that being a good decision to keep that from becoming worse amongst them. Maybe that is reason for it

Only reason I can see for it. Our interim options on staff are:

The worst OC in the SEC (who was actually a pretty good interim at Miami).

A DC who has HC aspirations (partly to get out of a buyout he’s on the hook for).

A DL coach whose record as HC is strikingly similar to Butch’s.

I can see going with one of those guys potentially bothering the other two and creating more behind the scenes strife. Fulmer could be a way to nip that in the bud.

All that being said, I’d be very, very surprised to see it happen.

If Kelly (doubtful) or Frost don’t get the 2nd look, I’m going to disappoint hard

I agree with you there. It's fine to want him fired but hating him is just silly.

Heard today Butch's buyout shrinks quite a bit if we miss a bowl game.

If true he won't get fired until after Vandy at the earliest.

I’m not sure that’s how his, or most, buyouts work. Usually coaches get incentives to make and win bowls, not penalties for missing them, in their contracts.

Boy I hope he takes some time away from football.

We don’t have to pay his buyout if he’s not trying to find another coaching gig.

We don’t have to pay his buyout if he’s not trying to find another coaching gig.

In that case, he’ll probably take an assistant role, maybe NFL ST coordinator or something... something that takes pressure off of being a HC

Wow for LWS to acknowledge that we are going after Gruden... I am speechless. It's about time UT decided to go big - I am very proud to see that and it be more than just message board rumors. If we actually pull this off, my goodness I don't know if Knoxville is prepared for the level of excitement that will come. It could be unprecedented and no fan base is more deserving🙏

He was definitely the right man for the job when he was hired. When this ends, I will be very appreciative for all he did for TN football. I think he gave his all, but I agree with what someone said above...I think it wore him out to get the program to the point to contend, and the things that were positives for him became negatives. I would shake his hand and tell him thanks, and wish him the best of luck whatever he chooses to do with his career.
