Coaches We Have Contacted

The longer they dilly dally with Jones, the more this recruiting class is going to fall apart and with the early signing period that gives the prospective future coach zero time to salvage it. It also puts us in direct competition with other schools who may be looking at coaches like Florida, Texas A&M, etc.

I would hope Currie isn't sitting on his hands over there. The world knows Butch is done. Keeping him around another year would put us back to the way it was post Dooley.

Amazing isn't it? Coming off of back to back SEC East titles, and they are unhappy with their coach. We're staring the worst season in school history in the face potentially, yet some people still don't mind the idea of the coach returning, and some people say the administration/boosters don't want him gone either. Good times. If Jones returns next year, I am not spending another dime on anything UT related or watching another game until he's gone. I can't bring myself to do it anymore. It's not even just the losing, it's the AWFUL product on the field, and getting destroyed at home like we're some FCS team merely in UGA's way. Nothing more than an annoyance to better teams.

I wouldn't doubt it. I mean everyone was talking Blackburn and Fulmer, ended up with Hamilton's errand boy. Most are talking Gruden, Kelly, will probably end up taking the guy that might be decent instead of the others. It's just what they do.. They don't want to beat Bama on the field they'd rather win a spelling bee with them these days.

Wonder what ever happened to Blackburn after he resigned at UTC

Why would anyone believe a thread like this?

Why would someone make up 4 coaching names that are getting tossed around at most open coaching spots? It would make more sense for someone to make up a rumor that Gruden or Stoops is coming.

I'm not saying OP's info is right or not, I have no idea. But the evidence shows that a coach along these lines is more likely the next HC than a huge name from a big program.

Give me some examples of proven coaches from big time programs that left there for other similarly-situated (or worse) programs. I mean, people are talking about getting James Franklin. The guy has his team #2 in the country and is from there, and people think he is a viable option. Whatever $ we throw a guy like that, they will match.

There is talk on the radio and Twitter about folks on TOS trying to sell the fan base on Mike Bobo. I truly hope that is garbage. We have to at least ask the big time coaches first. We cannot settle on this type of junk again.

nothing on CBJ being gone and it is too early for any real action on a replacement. I still don't believe he is back next year but the last 24 hours there is some talk that Currie really would prefer not to have to do it this year. I think he would have a difficult time selling that line of thinking but that chatter has been out there..

this makes sense to me. it did before the season too. as this season is playing out, i don't like that scenario, but it's been my opinion since the end of last year that the only way CBJ gets fired is if he leaves Currie little to no choice but to fire him....the epic meltdown season.

we appear to be firmly on that road, with a 3 game losing streak all but done come Saturday night.

i think nothing happens this week, or after the Bama game. lose KY, i'm not sure there's much preventing that situation from developing for Currie to deal with....whether it be immediately after the KY game or at the end of the season.

if it were me, i'd do it sooner than later. i see no benefit in keeping him on board at this point. time is not on currie's side, so whatever time he can buy to get a jump on gauging interest etc.....the better.

From a very reliable source in his 40's with the last name Bailey, the AD has started contacting coaches. He wouldn't give me any big names (hinted at some), but he gave me 4 smaller ones, some of whom have already been mentioned here. I give you, in no particular order:

1. Frank Wilson
2. Jason Candle
3. Neal Brown
4. Jedd

Obviously, as with any hearsay, take it with a large grain of salt.

Never heard of any of these. No please

We still may end up with a better record than Florida. I’m not seeing Bowl eligibility from Florida. I see it barely for us. Mizzou Vandy and southern miss

Those are the worst names I've ever heard.

Also, good job not giving away too much info about your source such as his name and age 😂

Okay, here is another name NOBODY is talking about -- Gary Pinkel. His story about being sick was BS. He left because of an affair that was about to come out, plus Mizzou was becoming toxic politically. Talk about a coach that can turn 3 stars into an SEC East champion -- he's proved it.

You know, UT might be better off letting Vol Nation posters coach by committee if this is what they're coming up with.

Some of you are setting yourselves up for yet another major disappointment and can't acknowledge that there is a chance CBJ will be the coach here next year, the only reason Dooley was fired was because fans stopped showing up. Fans are still showing up for CBJ and he is still coaching, it doesn't take a genius to figure out what means. Billionaires don't sit around all day long looking for a reason to waste millions of dollars and if you think they do you are kidding yourself.

Yeah, With that info, I know exactly who it is. I don't know him well enough to pick up the phone and call, but I'm not sure he's one with real inside info. Could be wrong though.

Hey! I knew who Neal Brown and Frank Wilson were

Any billionaire who spends money on a college team is doing it because they want to... not because there's an ROI.

Ostensibly... trying to put myself in their shoes... if I'm good enough in business to become a billionaire then I don't like losing. I would feel worse about spending $4 million on a loser than $7 million on a winner.

I understand what you are saying in a way... but if money were the motive of the powers behind the AD then they wouldn't be doing it.

I highly doubt John Currie has begun contacting any coach anywhere. He has a football coach and it would be highly unethical for him to be talking to coaches who were employed at other institutions. His name would be mud all over the college football landscape.

Do not believe this is happening.

But you know that isn't the way it works. A surrogate is doing whatever search is happening now. There is no direct contact between a coach and the program. There is only contact between this surrogate and the agent of possible targets with the objective of determining mutual interests. Everyone maintains "plausible deniability". No coach wants it said that he was considered and turned down... bad for his next contract negotiation. The program has the opposite concern plus the extended impact on team image and recruiting.

This seems to be pretty much what happens until a deal is basically struck. Is there any public proof that UT offered someone before Jones? Many acknowledge he wasn't a top choice. The others broke down before any direct contact between the AD and coach, right?

There is so much information/misinformation flying around out there, that this thread struck a chord with me. This list of names came just minutes after my boss (who has an account on VolQuest) sends me a LONG email from a poster over there claiming to have inside information (don't they all) about Currie's obsession with Gruden. I read the whole email, and then responded with, "Hold on, let me share what I've read".

And then I put together an email with information only from this thread. The list of names, LWS sharing what he has heard concerning Currie and his desire to hold on to Butch, and the support from some for the names on this list. I told him that this list of candidates is the first list I've read that really screams "Vols' Crappy Hire". This list smells like the truth. When I read this group of names, I got depressed, because I can totally see us hiring one of these guys...and the subtle, yet undeniable and quick support from some, raises the conspiracy hackles on my neck. It makes me think that they are floating these names out there, and having some folks show some support, calling them the "Smart hires", so that over the next couple of weeks, we will eventually say, "Well, let's give them a chance". I could totally be wrong, but knowing how things have gone in the past, this list seems real to me.

Now that being said, the information my boss shared with me, is really close to some things that 'Boro is hinting at with some information he is sitting on. The tl;dr of what he sent me is real estate deal (it's always a real estate deal!) involving the Andersons, Gruden, and maybe even Peyton. So as I said to start with, there's so much smoke in every direction, that there has to be fire somewhere, LOL.

So if we actually beat Bama and win out (which would put us into a pretty good bowl game) you wouldn't watch next year? Your hatred of CBJ is so much that if this staff and team get things figured out, you won't watch them anymore?

VFL baby.... VFL

You don't read so well, do you? The guy you responded to specifically said those were the conditions for him to watch.

It has nothing to do with "hatred" and everything to do with the objective realization that Jones has failed and is all but certain to continue to do so. He was a long shot when hired... the Peter Principle applies. That's not personal... that's just reality.

I changed doctors recently. Nothing personal at all against the old doctor. He just had a pattern of mistakes and shortcomings that I refused to continue accepting. That's where Jones is.

No BTW. You are a BFL. Butch for Life. Jones has done all that is needed to demonstrate he's not the guy. He'd actually done that BEFORE last year... but many of you just refused to see it. A few others saw it but hoped he would improve. VFL's recognize that it is time for a change because the program is more important than Jones.

I'm kind of in the same camp. I just looked all these guys up and thought yeah, this list is about like something the admin over there would come up with. Scares the hell out of me. I just don't think there's anyway Currie can hang on to Jones after the KY game though if we finish it with four straight losses and five SEC losses overall.
